Dag's full name is pronounced '
I-or-dag-nyre', and was given the title
'The Fortress' in recognition of the guardianship he gives to and inspires in others. He is a symbol of unyielding strength of will and exhibits an impenetrable, one-pointed focus to rise above any situation. The emblem of victory - the Peregrine Falcon - still remains with him from his first and very old title of 'Wings of Peregrine'.
The Fortress }
Voice - Deep bass; an equal balance of gentility and authoritative power associated with a voice of moral substance and leadership. Feral vocalizations are rare from him, though he is known to produce brontidal rumbles and has an extraordinarily low, growling bellow.
Scent - His scent is very gustatory - likened to the smoulder of a warm, damp bonfire in the middle of open fields; burnt soil of old forests long gone.
Build - Based on an old-world ice giant
Eucladoceros species; the first species of deer genus to have highly evolved antlers yet is a primitive mass of strong bone and muscle. His body type is a visually solid domination with a dense muscular structure most noticeable around his barrel-chest and shoulders, reinforcing the relatively short, strong neck that bares the weight of a heavy square skull - resembling more bull than deer - and its gargantuan artillery; both of which being the most prominent indication of his skeletal bulk. Being top-heavy, his posture is almost restricted to one position when still. A long body means legs are stationed far apart to accommodate and spread the weight, and his head is always held high in balance giving him a kingly air, which is also reflected in his fluid and powerful gait. At full speed, there is very little that can stop his bulldozer momentum.
Antlers - Fortress by design. Supernumerary, elongated branched-antlers where the beam has grown outward behind him, tines growing upward; his outer primary tines are the largest and grow into long forward-facing pincers. There are 12 tines per pedical and are split into four sets, all of which together are specifically designed to interlock with any antler type. Central clusters suited to single beam pronged deer, outer and brow tines designed for the larger supernumerary or palmated antlers such as Irish Elk. They are incredibly thick, astonishingly heavy, and an impenetrable defense that cannot be breached.
Visual - His coat is made up of dense, varying shades of grey that give him an overall arsenic colouration, but his mane and face are the most striking; dirty white for the most part with a carnelian-red pattern draped around the contours of his beady-eyed, frill-cheeked face. The white of his mane continues only half-way under his stomach, and ends in a point with a very thin separating line of charcoal.
There is also an enormous patch-scar that tears through the left side of his neck which is coupled with the nick in his ear on the same side. This was given to him by the Spring Wolf in 2010*.
Conqueror - Being the placid giant he is, Dag never lowers his antlers without reason; rarely has his combat been seen within the peaceful confines of the forest. However, heed the warning of his scar. Events leading up to his present existence shed further light on this war-hardened battler. There is something prehistoric and almost predatory about his combat - the misfortune of colliding with such a monolith is simply an all-sensory deluge.

Iaurdagnire's story has become that of Endless Forest legend, starting in 2009 and ending in 2013. His story involves the Forest, the Gods, and the spiritual embodiment of the Seasons whom he served with perpetual lives as a God-given duty. Dag wanted to escape, and continually fought for a life and death that was his to dictate; to cease to be a higher power's fuel for intellectual evolution. But in learning about his place in the world and a way to put an end to his duties, he became even more lost. Ultimately, Dag's story is an exploration of purpose and morality in all forms, and almost entirely community driven. The community has been involved in each section in some way, and these are referred to as "Season Events" by those who have participated; the events were designed for everyone to enjoy, regardless of the story.

Core }
Ravenflight - The Queen His love and greatest treasure; indescribably bound to her like no other. Their history had long ran parallel, and although their paths crossed only rarely in bygone years, they were connected by a deep empathy for their respective trials and desire for freedom. Behind closed doors they each played a part in helping each other fulfill a purpose in order to escape, and then found themselves lost without it. When Dag returned to the forest, Ravenflight tried to help him re-adjust through her understanding of what it is like to feel truly detached from the world around you. As they spent more time together, Dag increasingly began to dote on her and fell very deeply in love. Captivated by her in every way. Ravenflight has given him a new purpose, and Dag is utterly devoted to her continued happiness. Adores and is enchanted by everything she is.
Cry - The Ace Guardian; a source of security; life indebted to. Dag has known Cry for a long time, and upon his return was healed by him (
see 'War Drum' Act V). Displays an affectionate "big brother" attitude towards the small white stag when around him.
Ephiré - The Jack An unspoken natural affinity; indebted to. The two giants have much in common with the way they cope with the world around them, and it is this understanding that lead Ephiré to become the catalyst in Dag's journey (
see 'Catalyst' story arc Act I-III). Has a profound trust in him and admires him greatly. He is also the only deer within the forest to have witnessed the full brunt of Dag's combat.
Virgil/The Red - Part of the Fortress' strong foundations. One of his oldest friends of a different world to his own, wild and unrestricted. At the time of his trials, Dag thought of Virgil's existence as "real", moreso than his own and one he wanted to achieve. Events between then and now strongly effected Dag, but their friendship remains strong and has been rebuilt. [to be re-written]

Genius plot, pshaw you *shoves*
Hm well, the whole story was never planned from the beginning at all. Each part manifested by itself really; its been nearly 4 years in the making now so how I felt about the game/my character from the start obviously changed and moved with the community over time. I think its interesting that the plot really evolved as I experimented with ways of storytelling on the site specifically. I could use RP participation, in forest stuff, and I think I was the first to use the whole "sing along" style when the first type of music players were around (I can't remember what they were called, but it was before someone figures out the youtube buttons!).
But I suppose the basis of it is all inspired by movies and series I like - Ghibli movies and Ginga Nagareboshi Gin specifically. I've always been fascinated by the concept of what strength of will is and going beyond the things that should be grounding you, mental strength and all that. A strength that seems bigger then yourself, if that makes any sense. A lot of it I can put down to how I felt about life at the time too XD writing Dag's story and taking my thoughts about things out on him was therapeutic.
The story is not entirely finished yet (; there are still some loose ends to tie up...
you wouldn't mind if i start

The mare stirred in her sleep, as life breathed itself back into her muscles, the morning air refreshing and crisp. She continued to lie on the soft ground, waiting for her eyes to adjust from there sleepy haze, and gradually got to her feet, in a very uncommon fashion. She stood, wavered a bit, and nickered, still not used to her surroundings.
She set off after a few seconds, finding that standing still was pretty useless now. She cantered forth, not bothering to look at her surroundings, but merely keeping her sense of smell alive. She didn't want to run into any danger, with the state she was in. Arriving at a rather cozy clearing, she waited to see if anything would happen. The forest seemed so still, even if it was full to the brim of many citizens, whom had there own story to tell.

Due to his size, Dag didn't need to worry about finding safe places to sleep - he could pretty much doze off wherever he wanted, and that is exactly what had happened not too far from where the doe was standing. The dark navy-ash mound that was his body rose and fell with gentle breath, looking like a small mountain against the tall grass. He was sleeping soundly with his nose nestled under some ferns, oblivious to the world and the few small birds flitting about his antlers and picking off insects that were attracted to his coat.
poppy - Sure (:

Jacob bounced around at the larger stag`s heels, his ears perked in excitement. He could still remember the first time he`d met the Dag, on a day where the air was filled with fog, and no one was quite sure what exactly was going to happen next. He`d been so young then, he hadn`t really known what was going on.
Come to think of it, he still didn`t. But that didn`t matter right now! The golden fawn had a very important question to ask Dag.
"Hey, can you teach how to do those things with the flowers on your antlers? You know, the thing you and your raven friend were doing a few days ago?"

She continued to look around, scanning the clearing with her deep ruby red eyes, her ears erect. Maybe she could reach the Birch valley without meeting any sort of trouble along the way, for it seemed so quiet, too quiet in fact. She looked up at the sky, her long tail gently swished as she examined the sky. It was gradually getting brighter, but yet, still no birds chirped. It was there when the mare heard the gentle breathing of a creature nearby, was she more curious than before. A sign of life in this quiet land.
She slowly made her way out of the bushes, knowing that if this creature was asleep, she could safely pass to the Birch valley. Small wisps of cold air blew out her nose as the cold clung to her breathing, as she made her way towards the slumbering creature. Peering through the vegetation, she looked for the stranger, only to suddenly see a giant being lying on the grass, his side rising and falling with every quiet breath.
She had seen others like this, a native, a stag. The horse quietly snorted as she edged closer, realizing how big he was. But her curious mind turned to fear, as she walked onto a twig, snapping it between her hooves, sending hiding crows soaring up into the air.
Poppy - Despite his best
Despite his best effort, the little fawn Dag had become quite fond of was very hard to follow with his eyes and walk at the same time. He couldn't move his head to follow Jacob around him very quickly on account of his antlers, so he ended up stopping and waiting for Jacob to calm down.
"I'll end up tripping over you one day!" The giant laughed, smiling widely down at him.
At his question, Dag rose an eyebrow,
"You want to learn how to spar?" He made various uncertain 'hmm' sounds as he leaned over to take a look on the top of Jacob's head.
"Aha! Well will you look at that," he nodded, "- yep, those are definitely the beginnings of antlers between your ears. Perhaps I will be able to teach you soon... You'll have to wait a little while longer, though."
vinttage -
It was the crows rather than the initial sound of the twig that stirred him, but even then he wasn't in a hurry to wake up. Grunting, the stag retracted his head from the ferns and rose his head from the grasses, dragging up a few strands of it in his gargantuan antlers in the process. He gave them a slow shake before blinking open his tired eyes and turning to the sound of the... what is that?
Even though he couldn't place the creature standing not too far from him as anything other than a type of deer he'd never seen before (as there are a fair few "varieties" in the forest he still often struggled to make sense of), there wasn't even so much as a look of surprise on his face. His expression was completely blank; not smiling nor frowning, but it was his small brown eyes that were busy looking over her features to try and make sense of her. For one thing, she had a square nose not too dissimilar to him, but her whole head was still a lot longer and less square. But what confused him most was the look of fear on her face - surely if anything, he should be the one afraid of her after sneaking up on him like that? As ludicrous as the thought was.
After his moment assessing her presence, Dag thought he should say something. The markings on his face moved pleasantly as he fell back into his usual charming and warm smile,
"Are you lost?"

Okay first of all, great job on the antlers! I don't know how to say "they look really antler-ey" in any other way than that so yep haha. I adore his expression too and just the way you draw faces in general, you've got a really good balance between realism and a kind of Ghibli/cartoony feel. Argh he just look so... like Dag! It's just a perfect gentle Dag image. ♥
Also... YES to the whiskers, just noticed :'D eee such a cute touch!

She was still, her back legs
"Forgive me, giant. I have awoken you by accident, shall I leave you to continue?" she replied, her voice slightly off.
(You don't need to put her
Dag tilted his head ever so slightly as she began to speak, and his small ears swiveled forwards curiously. Her speech was odd to him; formal but not has he had heard it before. Perhaps that is how her kind spoke?
"Continue?"
He repeated, the corners of his mouth rising into a wider smile amused by how she phrased the question - as if he was doing something important.
"Hm-hm, sleep can be had at any time." The stag chuckled, "Always a pleasure to meet someone new. What is your name?"
Dag has been in the forest long enough to not tip-toe around formalities for too long when meeting new-comers to the forest, though he would never be so brazen as to ask what she was out-right, figuring she was probably wandering the same about him.
(Goodness, it was meant to be
She continued to observe the giant, her eyes noting every detail.
"I am Andromeda, named after the constellation," she replied, gently raising her head, looking up at the sky, as if to expect the stars to appear so suddenly
"And you? I'm sure a fine giant like yourself must have a very proud name, if you don't mind me saying?"
This was probably her first time speaking so freely to a stranger, for times before should cower away to someone so big like himself, but it was something to do with his face, a face that seemed so warm, a face that wouldn't do no wrong.
When she looked to the sky,
"Hm-hm, I'm not sure about proud - more like a mouthful."
He gave a cheery smile and chuckled again before moving himself to get up. Rocking his hefty body forward and using the weight of his antlers as balance, he was able to push his back legs from behind and then on the roll back, spring his forelegs out from under him so he could stand as efficiently as he could. It was an impressive feat of strength to see him rise in this way - normally he took his time and was a lot more cumbersome, but the huge stag could certainly shift when he needed to.
"I am Iaurdagnire, but I prefer to be called Dag."
His antlers clacked against a branch above him as he turned to face her,
"So what is it that brings you to the forest, Andromeda? If you'd pardon me from saying, but I've never seen anyone like you around here before."

She tilted her head ad the sound of his name. He was right in saying it was a mouthful, but it something in it that made you feel warm.
"What a unique name, I must say," she replied a little shyly, scuffling her hooves on the ground.
"I came from far away. I used to live over the mountains, but I'm afraid you can't see them at this time," she said, tilting her head north.
Congrats, Dag. (:

"I see."
The stags eyes fell to her hooves when she shuffled, suitably impressed by them. There was no gap in the middle like his, but besides that they were possitivly huge and looked as if they were solid enough to shatter stone. 'Don't need antlers if you've got those I suppose...' His mind wondered off and back again.
"Ah... I'd like to hear more about these mountains of yours? The hill over by the Ruins is what I call home, but it's fairly unimpressive."
Dag smiled to himself.
