Vessels constrict, and his scarred shoulder quivers. In his dream, he lunges, barking like a hell-hound,
"Your fangs will not mark my skin again."
"Ha!" Came an audible
crack of splitting earth, "Is that a threat? Don't forgot your promise to the "Gods"... I need your help, remember?"
His voice was laden with malicious sarcasm. Every sharp tooth was unsheathed as he let loose a maniacal cackle that ended with a strike at the ground.
"
Pathetic."
Iaurdagnire looked on as the wolf rounded him again, confused.
"You think the Gods created us, don't you?"
Time seemed to freeze in that moment. Iaurdagnire did not answer, it seemed a rhetorical one - was he wrong?
"We existed long before the Gods did. You've seen outside of their little divine forest - you think their command is over worlds beyond, too? Hm? Never questioned your own evolution, asked any of us why we bother to operate outside of your precious trees and that puddle you call a pond?"
His expression sank... No, he questioned none of it.
"I - we - were simply a change. We were a nameless phenomenon that brought change. It is the Gods that gave us a name, and that is the moment we existed to the world. In giving us a name, the Gods gave us
purpose. We looked to them for fulfilment like any life will, and they gave us... you."
Click... click... click.
Rainwater from the wet leaves above drip steadily onto his sleeping body. The sound is loudest when they hit his antlers, and his eyes flicker with every fall. Thinking. Processing like a precision machine.
"Winter and Autumn don't need you any more. They don't want you. Being the annoying intelligent
shit that you are, you made them see reason. That is a mistake. You see, I had my reason a long, long time ago, the very first time I saw you die in the jaws of an enemy. Natural law is what I abided by, and I gave the world what it needed to grow and took away what hindered it. Hm, just like you. You gave us what we needed for us to gain our intellect; who we are. But you know, our kindnesses will be forever overlooked."
"I do not give anything to you." The stag growls, trembling with hatred,
"It is taken. That is not my kindness, it is your cruelty."
"And what do you know about cruelty, hm?
Nothing but our wrath, exactly the same as everyone else. The forest you live in is the last sanctum the Gods can control, and the rest of the world? New creatures came from
my nurturing, and the world went on without them. It is naïve for anyone to think that a Gods will is not finite; the forest is their only remaining sanctuary. But me? My brothers? We were always beyond their power, and the more we realized we had, the less we wanted."
"I do not understand..."
"It isn't enough. None of it. Now we have an understanding of the world, you think it is easy to sit back and continue as before? I gave them too much, and now it is my creation who burns me. Ignorance is truly bliss, servant. You were none the wiser until-"
"-Then why. Why was I made aware if it was so important? It makes no sense, you all could have had what you wanted. I could have remained in blissful ignorance to my purpose."
"Ah-ah-ah, there's that naughty word again.
Purpose. None of us asked for it-"
"I did not ask for it."
"Wrong again, 'Fortress'. You go so far as to try and escape it. Tell me, who are your family? Your brother, sister, best friend... mate. Answer me honestly."
His heavy breathing is more noticeable. And in his body left in the real world, jaw and eyelids clench in discomfort. Eventually, he faces the wolf and answers.
"I have none."
Funnels of fire flare from where the rubble of Spring's paws land, and he prowls the ash covered ground stopping just inches from Iaurdagnire's face. Not so much as a flinch came from him.
"A-ha, and can you tell me why?"
There is another pause, and a heavy exhale into the hot acid breath emanating from the wolf.
"I vow to not let higher powers such as you have any control over me. I cannot let anyone else do the same; it is better this way, and less hurtful for them. Everyone in relation to me is an equal, and I find my strength in the favour of none over the other."
"You favour balance, Iaurdagnire. A rationality of what is wrong, and what is right. You take measures to ensure your own solitudinal existence.
Insignificance. That is what you really want - you actually fear the grandeur of your duty to us."
"I fear nothing, and my duty so far has been a farce."
"Really. Then it's about time I show you
my duty. It has been the same for millennia, but now my actions are worth more in the eyes of those who scuttle beneath me. I am prayed to. They beg to curry my favour in exchange for menial things that are of no matter. Has anyone ever pleaded to you to spare their life, 'Nire? No... Summer knew what was coming to him."
The bright white of Springs eyes force themselves upon the blacks of Iaurdagnire's. Walls of dusty grey stone rise around them perfectly flat, and the deafening drumming of something mechanical fills his ears. The smell of tar and crude oil fill his nostrils, then more walls - round this time, billowing white smoke - yellow contraptions scraping up the earth and rotating teeth feasting on everything green. A great net trawls the world, swallowing earth and beast within it. Pink faces blow their own smoke and fill black pockets with their own evergreen.
"I provide what is needed for creatures to live. And they take it away in the hopes of something better to be grown from destruction."
Springs dark malevolent voice sputters amidst the catastrophes. Iaurdagnire's eyes are wide with terror. His nightmares repeat themselves, but this time with a being behind it.
"I show them what real destruction is. What happens when my waters are poisoned, when my earth... when
I am abused for my bounty... I take whatever they have stolen from me, back."
That was incredible. You have
Can't wait for the next part~
Woow, so intense! I loved the
I thoroughly enjoy following Dag's story as it intensifies, and I greatly look forward to seeing how this time in his story progresses!
I have always loved these...
These have always made me smile.
(thanks, starling! The avatar is amazing! And Thanks Pretzil for the siggie!
I'm not sure I understand
o snap it's on spring
Fin - Thank you. There are
Veegamer - I was going to involve "natural disasters" quite heavily, but decide that it wasn't the point. I'm happy that I've managed to milk juuust enough of it.
moons - Ohhh, I didn't know you are F2L! I feel stupid now haha. Very happy you're continuing to enjoy these (:
Pega - It's okay, it is confusing as some bits are a little contradictory to the past stories (which is why I've been going back and editing them), and talking about purpose and existence is difficult when trying to mix tef and real world (which I regret like hell haha).
Here's a tldr;
Spring is the last element in Dag's story, and he is lead to believe that once Spring is over, Summer will be brought back and his "contract" with the seasons will be over. Spring is saying the way the Season's have advanced into their own Demi-God states because of Dag cannot be undone as it has gone far enough for them to be concious and regretful of it. Even if Summer is allowed to come back and continue the cycle, Dag may be free but the Seasons are not (they're "stuck" basically, and the want for more will never go away - a want they never had until they were given the chance to exist). In a previous event, the Gods said that further life cannot exist without Summer, so Springs plan is to not let that happen and have it all end with him. Obviously, Dag can't allow that (:
Kaoori - Yeahboi B(
This is intense. I was on the
*waits eagerly for the next part*
Hehe, I knew someone would
Thank you Haru ♥
Fire Vox to Fire Spring: 'SUP
This was really awesome, though. I'm half cheering for Spring, sorry Daggers. ;;
The method of writing was really gripping, too. Nice work~
Thanks, and it's okay to
-
I'm sorry things have gotten more complicated to follow. It isn't good; I should have put a stop to it last year?
It might've been. I'm not
I'm only cheering for Spring because I hate the human race, too. :'D They suck; totally understand where he's coming from.
As for your other tangents: I don't know. I still find them new and gripping. As for this one, I'm not entirely sure how to approach or who I'd even use to approach it. Typically, it'd be Noe, but she and Nire seem to avoid each other. Either way, I know these are all really enjoyed by a lot of people. And there's reason to rush these for whatever reason.
I don't mean for them to be
Thank you though. I don't find much enjoyment in dramas, but I like complex turmoils like this and it's difficult to get a foothold on it... which is probably where I fail at making his story 100% accessible anymore. It's not all innocent and fun like before! Looking back I actually find my past plots quite funny and juvenile, but the events were always so much fun. That's what I want to get right more than anything.
I love these events. You
[edit] Complex dramas are the best. I love them too. It's what makes Dag and his story even more interesting--the amazing complexity of it.
Heck, I like explanations too and this is giving me even more of one. ;D
I am rarely on TEF anymore,
This had me on edge.
ocean - Ahh thank you
ray-ray - Yessss I was hoping you'd see it. I think the conclusion of this would interest you... Dag needs to hang out with Ravyn more hehe. <3
I can understand that. xD
I am! Some of my favorite books have the most complex plots and characters. It makes it fun! And yes, that does make sense. I have an idea of it and I think I know where it's going, but I don't know the full extent. ;D
Okay. I had to read this
This has lead me to believe the following things:
1 - Summer lied and sacrificed himself because he KNEW this would come as a result. I don't know but maybe you should add in a mention of how Spring is the last connection to get to Velocity in order to get Summer back? I only remembered by having the info fresh in my mind.
2 - Spring is saying that because of the want to learn from Dag, his purpose is less pure as a result? Resentment or defiance of Dag in his point of view means they are one of the same and both want it to stop, and they've come to an impasse, clearly 8D
3 - In Hesitance, Dag's words were "I want to be the master of my own destiny, not hounded by those who wish to dictate it." He's contradicting himself, isn't he? And that's why he's lost, because without them he's not exactly got anything/anyone to give him purpose.
I'd love to know if any of those are right ^_^
ocean - I'll make the next
Kiyo - This is a fine example as to why you were so much better in english class than I was. You've analysed it just like an exercise and I hate and love that at the same time haha.
1) Correct, and you're right I should have included something about that lol I'll try and fit it in later |D
2) I think that's what I wanted to achieve, though you put it way better than I have. ergh. I hate you -throttles- <3
3) Wasn't intentional but YES.
Mh I've always loved your
-fail comment- It's great ;; but I can never really put the things I like about writings into words, at least not really with English writings.
But I just love it and all your writings are always so captivating.
Quote:Yessss I was hoping
you don't know how exciting that sounds to me.
eff da duble post
Not really sure what to say
Dude. Spring is a prick.
Either way.
Awesome.
....wow.
<3
Munk - Far from a fail
Ray - Damn, I better not disappoint then!
Ray - Double rply yo' two times two times~
parrots - Eeee you read it! Hm sorry about the scrollbar, I'll make the div a little bit wider and see if that fixes it. Blame safari if it doesn't hehe. Spring is such a prick, but a misguided stubborn prick X]
Spyrre - Thank you for reading (: <3

I did what you suggested Kiyo. It's not much, just a mention/reminder:
"Do what you need to do so Summer can return - so I can speak to Velocity and put things back where they should be."
