[ HI sorry this took so long
"Yeah."
Keith looked down at the water, unable to see his reflection in it properly since it was constantly flowing. He was silent for several seconds, occassionally putting one hoof forwards, down the bank of the river before lifting it again, thinking better of it. No use in risking falling in.
After a minute he stepped back completely, faint frown in place until eventually he moved behind the Idol, grabbing a mouthful of poppies before moving to the river again. He dropped them in and was rewarded with a momentary entrancement as he stared at the petals flowing downwards - and then they were gone.
Then his slurred voice sounded out again. "So uh, what's yer name?" He looked to the caribou, raising an eyebrow. "Honestly 'aven't seen a lot of deer lookin' like fuckin' deer, but I guess you're one of the few. You born here? Personal question, sorry."
@Mick: He'd never seen his
He'd never seen his boyfriend turn that color before. Usually it was him that did the blushing instead...
By the time Kylar had approached him, Toukan had managed to push back the amusement so just a smile remained on his face. The comment threatened to bring it back to the surface though.
"Hey yourself," he answered, voice warm from previously held back laughter. He was unable to kiss in this form, so he settled for nuzzling the other's face instead. There was always a crackle of energy he could somewhat feel emanating from Kylar; Toukan assumed it was from the lightning. It was oddly comforting really.
@Dannii:
Out of the corner of his eye, Tundra half-watched the small stag curiously. He wondered what he was doing when he went around to the back of the Idol, and blinked as poppies were tossed into the stream. A brown and tan head tilted as they floated past his hoof.
Ice-colored eyes blinked again at the questions thrown at him.
That was true. There were a lot of human-faced deer here. It had freaked him out at first, but after awhile, he realized they were just like normal deer; only human-faced. But he should answer with something at least instead of pondering too much.
"Not from here, no." He said only enough to answer the question, not really sure about giving too much information about himself yet. "I'm called Tundra." At least he kept from stumbling on the fake name. ...though technically, it wasn't really fake. Just the English translation of it.
The stag - 'Tundra', Keith
The stag - 'Tundra', Keith noted - had answered his question, and that was enough. Yes, he would have liked to know more, but he honestly didn't expect a detailed response. They'd literally met only a few minutes ago, and for all Keith knew, they might never meet again. Deer came and went, he assumed; he himself was known to converse with a deer for five minutes and then simply leave, distracted or just restless. It was just the way things were here, he assumed.
"Weird name," Keith commented, glancing over again, stood almost uncertainly at the edge of the river. Tufted ears flicked back and then forth again as the skinny creature watched a leaf flicker slowly through the air right infront of him, landing in the grass. He looked up again. "Don't the place freak you out, or are you used to weird shit?"
He fidgeted on the spot, tail flicking from side to side a few times, restless. Keith sniffed and eventually moved back around to Tundra's side of the river, snatching up another poppy as he went. "You ever eaten one of these? I thought they'd be disgustin', but they're actually not."
He sort of shrugged a
Tundra shifted where he sat, shaking water off his hoof before finally returning it to the shore and tucking it underneath him with the other one. He was starting to get bored of sitting here, but wasn't really sure of where to go to next. It wasn't like this place ended. He'd discovered that pretty quickly; it just cycled over on itself in an endless loop. It was like being in a bigger pen, but without the gawkers constantly coming and going...
He blinked at the poppy that was held up, brow creasing in thought. "Never thought of eating one of those actually..." He couldn't say he was very curious either. He preferred mushrooms. Though not those funky ones that grew on the trees. They made him feel weird.
Such vague answers! Still, he
Such vague answers! Still, he really couldn't blame the guy. Keith had a tendency to ramble and ask question after question, particularly when he'd been awake too long. As a result he was quite used to people either getting tired of him and falling silent, or flat-out telling him to shut his
whoredamn mouth.Keith chewed on the poppy he'd been holding, watching the larger stag, head tilting slightly. Scruffy hair shifted with him. "You should. Well, if you ever wanted to, anyway." He didn't like to sound as if he was telling someone what to do - probably because he was so opposed to people doing the same to him.
"So d'you know how that got here?" He nodded towards the statue, curious rum-coloured eyes on Tundra again. "I ask a shitton of questions, tell me if you want me to fuck off, man. I don't give a damn either way. Still, I've never met anyone that knew how that got 'ere, 'cept one lady that said it was a man once, or summin'."
[ omg Keith shut up /DYING he's embarrassing me |8 ]
"I'll keep that in mind I
The change in subject had him blinking again. This guy sure liked talking, didn't he. And anyway...
How would I know? he thought. Tundra wasn't annoyed (yet). More like incredulous. He probably wasn't going to tell the guy to go away either since he didn't know a good way to go about doing that. Not like he'd needed or been able to before coming here...
"Um..." More blinking. "I'm not really sure what you're talking about...but this place has gods or whatever, right? They probably have something to do with..." he gestured with head to sort of point with his muzzle at the crying statue. "...well, that," he finished lamely.
He'd stopped questioning things so much since all it did was weird him out more. Better to just accept that some things just were.
Toukan’s fur always felt so
“Feels like s’been a while since I seen ya,” Kylar said to the caribou as he allowed himself to just enjoy the presence of the other without any other thought or justification – the fact that Toukan was there beside him often allowed his mood to raise and would turn the lightning yellow on most occasions at the start as he felt happiness before it faded back into blue as he became content with everything around him. In those moments where he felt the happiness of having found his lover, his markings because they were yellow themselves would glow with more intensity than usual – they were a good indicator of his mood because of that. The brighter the glow, the closer to the light colours it usually was and lighter colours were good things – happiness, love, lust. Well, lust could be considered a bad thing, but Kylar refused to believe that wanting Toukan could be in any way, shape or form morally wrong; especially since Toukan didn’t have a problem with it.
|D Blargh, I really should
The scruffbucket looked
Keith eventually gave a slow exhale and moved to the poppies again, looking at them before deciding against plucking one up, shifting before moving back to the caribou, standing a few feet to the side of him.
"...So how d'you grow antlers if you don't have 'em already."
@Mick: "Hmmm," he hummed in
"Hmmm," he hummed in agreement. Any amount of time felt like awhile, though, but he wouldn't say that out loud. It bordered on corny territory. He caught sight of the yellowish glow and knew that if he glanced down, he'd see the same color reflected in the glow of the snowflake charm he wore. It contained a piece of the other's blood lightning after all, hence making it a sort of mood ring.
Toukan couldn't quite remember what yellow meant, but knew it didn't represent a bad mood.
Sneaking in another small nuzzle, he backed away a step to gesture to the side with his head."Care to join me for a walk?" This was one of those times where he definitely wouldn't turn down company.
@Zerg: Yes you should. B| *chews on*
@Dannii:
Religious. An ear flicked at that word as the caribou frowned. He wasn't sure that was directed at him exactly, but gave a response anyway. Though quietly, in case it really hadn't been intended for him to hear. "Not exactly religious..." Someone had to have created this place, though, and he had heard mention of "gods", so why not go with the "maybe the gods did this" theory?
He watched the other curiously from the corner of a pale eye again, wondering what he was up to.
Blink blink. "What?" What kind of question was that?? He'd never seen any antlerless deer before coming to this forest, so... "How should I know?"
A walk? That sounded like a
“Yeah, that sounds great,” Kylar answered with his Toukan smirk, which was effectively his trademark smirk but the added love he had for Toukan meant his mouth opened a little letting through a glimmer of white from his pristine teeth which didn’t see a lot of plaque or anything since most foreign bacteria couldn’t survive on him for extended periods, the lightning tended to get it – although it left his digestion process alone so that let him eat and drink. Was hell when he got wet though, he would have to sit and control the lightning directly so that it wouldn’t fly out of his body arcing through the water. His blood lightning was enough to kill a person if they got a large arc from it – smaller ones which were common enough were just like the shocks that people got from static electricity although that usually only happened if Kylar touched something metal whilst they were at the same time, it tended not to arc directly from him to them unless he was wet.
He wondered where his walk with Toukan would take him – they never really wandered the same route twice since there were no distinct routes through the forest; no paths or roads since no one but the animals inhabited the forest dimension, well he assumed it was a dimension since it was a literal door he went through upon ingress to and egress from the forest. He had often wondered about the process that his body went through changing into a deer but he had never learned very much. Only Kahlan remained truly aware during the process and she had never gathered anything of interest. She couldn’t see during the transition so she couldn’t provide any information about their surroundings when they were travelling through and when one looked into the doors they would only see light – nothing else. Kylar figured it was a magical transformation then since magic seemed common enough in the forest. It didn’t seem to be some kind of strange technology that did this.
The thought of his sister sent a pang through him; even though she checked in fairly regularly, the two siblings hadn’t had a proper conversation since before she had went away. She spoke of returning every now and then but thus far she hadn’t made an appearance back at their apartments. Kylar had left her apartment completely untouched, except for the occasional raid of her bookshelf to steal books since he didn’t really keep any down in his apartment. His was filled more with gadgets and the like – and now Toukan’s stuff, he hadn’t really kept track of everything. He occasionally found random things in the apartment that he had never seen before but that he imagined Toukan had put there for some reason or another. Not that that made his apartment messy, no, they were clean enough at home.
The walk followed no specific
Toukan was only half paying attention to the scenery though. He kept glancing at the dark stag walking beside him. He seemed distracted.
His brow creased in concern. "You alright?"
He looked towards his
“I was just thinking about Kahl,” He answered truthfully – whilst sometimes he wouldn’t say exactly what he was thinking, with Toukan he usually did. Toukan could always tell when he was making up his thoughts for Toukan’s benefit. Or his own, he guessed, sometimes he lied about it just because he didn’t really want to talk about it with anyone else. Although that was rare nowadays – he didn’t really have any problems. Well, aside from what he wanted to do after he left school – he had been thinking about the army but he wasn’t sure yet. He didn’t want to be pulled away from Toukan…but it was the only thing that interested him at the moment…but that’d be a conversation for another day, “Haven’t heard from her in a while….but hey, she’s immortal so there’s no point in worrying.”
He wasn’t sure why he worried about his sister – with the combined strength of her powers she had taken down a massive skeletal wolf that had threatened the forest after those people that hated that deer – Quad, Kylar thought his name was, had summoned them up as a weapon against him. She’d not just taken it down either, she’d utterly destroyed it with a massive wave of black energy but he supposed that had cost her. She’d been entirely powerless for a time after that on pain of having her darker alter ego take over her body. She never spoke of the other, but Kylar had seen her once or twice. She was someone who killed without mercy or remorse and she had better control of the dark side of Kahlan’s powers...but Kylar couldn’t think like that. He didn’t want to think of that, better to think of the happier times when she wasn’t around, and the happiness he felt around Toukan. There were still yellow flashes coming from Toukan’s necklace – the momentary tinges of blue when he had been in his thoughts would have vanished now.
“What about you? What’s on your mind baby?” He asked, genuinely curious about what the other was thinking.
That was true. She had been
Blink. "Nothing really. Just happy to see you." He felt almost embarrassed admitting that, but it was the truth.
[[Short cuz I couldn't think of more and I'm in a rush. |D ]]
He had the feeling he was
"Dunno, man, just thought I'd ask. Keep y'knickers on."
He sniffed, tufted ears flicking. "Huh."
Kylar couldn’t supress a
“M’happy to see ye to, miss ye when y’aren’t aroun’,” Kylar replied, accent having become a little stronger as it often did when he was overtaken by light happiness – or any strong emotion really.
@Dannii: Tundra's brow
Tundra's brow creased in confusion. "My 'knickers'?" Ok then... He had no idea what this little stag was talking about anymore.
But Tundra did know his leg was starting to cramp up. It happened sometimes if he had it tucked like this for too long. He wanted to stretch it out to work out the kinks, but...wasn't sure about the other seeing it.
It was really bugging him though.
Screw it, he mentally decided, untucking his front legs to stretch them out in front of him with a soft groan.
@Mick:
He couldn't help smiling, not just at the words, but also at how the accent made the other's voice seem richer than it usually was. It didn't really happen that often.
Toukan snuck in another nuzzle to Kylar's face just because he could.
Kylar smirked at the
“So, what’ve ye been up tae since I last saw ye?” Kylar asked – it hadn’t been that long, just a day or so since he had seen the other but Toukan usually had some interesting stories to tell when he had been in the forest by himself for a while. It often made Kylar feel a little bad that he didn’t come around more often to see the times that had made Toukan fall in love with the forest as much as he had. He was pretty sure that Toukan’s preferences went Kylar, Mint, Forest – if he allowed himself to be a little bit arrogant and assume that Toukan loved him more than anything - although Toukan had explicitly said in one conversation that they had had that he preferred Kylar to Mint.
It wasn't that he wanted to
Toukan noticed that the accent was still there more than usual, but it was still understandable.
"Oh, the usual. Walking around, finding peaceful places to sit...peacocking Oura..." This part was said with a smirk. "...and fleeing before she gets revenge..." The way it was said sounded like he wasn't usually successful, or if he was, not for very long.
Keith noticed the twisted
But he wanted to know what was wrong with that leg, damn it.
"Not to uh, be a prick," the amber-eyed creature began, head tilted. "But don't that get in the way? Looks like it'd be awkward to walk with."
He half-expected the other to snap at him. Hell, Keith would have.
He probably would've snapped,
"Sometimes, yea, but I'm used to it," he admitted. Couldn't always give vague answers after all.
Kylar chuckled at the thought
“Need your big strong boyfrien’ tae protect ye?” Kylar asked through the chuckle which set off his accent again – although his entire speech was made a little less clear because of the chuckle persisting as he spoke. He seriously doubted that Toukan would actually need Kylar to protect him from Oura, or from anyone really, Toukan had been in the forest long before Kylar had gotten there so he must have been able to take care of himself and even if he couldn’t alongside Kylar, there were a legion of friends and family that he knew of that would protect him. Failing that, there was the mint. The mint was apparently good for healing – he had experienced its benefit himself when he had been injured before. Toukan had brought some and it had indeed helped. Couldn’t beat Kahlan’s healing talents though, she merely had to flick her hand and the wound was gone as was all residual pain if she wished it. She often didn’t, since Kylar often brought about the injury himself by acting “foolish” as she put it and she would want him to suffer the consequences at least a little. “My power is not here to make you able to do whatever you want without injury” she had often said when he had come to her with an injury he had caused himself.

@Mick: It took him a moment
It took him a moment to decipher the words that were a bit distorted by both the accent and chuckling, but once he did, Toukan couldn't help a small chuckle of amusement himself. "What, planning to be my knight and defend my honor?" he teased.

He had been drifting, not exactly meditating, in a state somewhere between sleep and wake, gazing ahead but not really seeing what was there. A light doze, if you will.
It had been some time since Bastilion had set hoof within the Forest. Where he had been before, he was not quite sure. He assumed it was that not-world that deer disappeared into sometimes when they fell asleep in a cloud of dark smoke. He certainly had not been wandering around in any other world - for he knew no way to truly depart this place - but he had not been here; he was sure of this.
Whatever the matter, he was here now, and the heat of summer had settled in, the cause of his light doze.
It was not an unpleasant amount of heat at least.
But because of his state of unaware, the Irish elk bull did not notice the approach of the much larger, demonic-looking, bull. Not until he was within a few deer lengths away.
An ear flicked in the other's direction as the brown stag focused back into awareness, turning his head as the other spoke. A look of pleased recognition crossed his face. "Ah, Darkweaver!" he greeted, clambering up to his hooves. "It has been awhile."
The old bull continues to
It was only natural to wonder. Especially when one finds himself becoming slowly swarmed by new faces he couldn't possibly ever come to recognise consistently. Most of such being fawns and 'blockheads', as the bull had begun to refer to the young and unreadable picto-carriers.
Kylar’s signature “Toukan”
“An’ if ah was?” Kylar asked – accent stronger than it had been before, a glance at the medallion that he had given to Toukan showed that the yellow colour had become stronger – he was happier again.
My brain failed to summon up anything more.

He returned the bow in his elegant way, careful not to overbalance himself, before righting himself to consider the question. "I am not really sure," he answered finally. "Perhaps some world between worlds?" he suggested in answer.
@Mick:
"As long as it doesn't make me the 'damsel in distress'," he returned, traces of the chuckling still in his voice. This conversation was indeed familiar, but he didn't mind.

Bastilion inclined his head in a nod. "It is good to be back," was the answer of agreement. He felt he had been away for quite some time. Exactly how much had changed? The scenery itself hardly ever seemed quite different. Unless of course one of the gods had decided to..."spice things up" a bit, as he heard it put.
He decided now was an opportune time to strike up a conversation and see just what he had missed in his absence. "I wonder, though...has anything of interest taken place while I was away?" he asked with no small measure of curiosity.
Keith gave a nod. "Guess
Suddenly he looked...worried, eyes averted.

@Dannii: Blink. What the heck
Blink. What the heck was the "Spanish Inquisition"? Ah, whatever; it didn't matter. The other said he wasn't going to ask Tundra about his hoof anymore, and that was fine with him. It wasn't it'd be some big interesting story anyway. He was born with it; that was all.
"I guess it's alright here," he said with a sort of shrug. "It's...different. Had to get used to it too."
He frowned. "What do mean, 'anything else'?"
@Zerg:
He made a sound of interest at the mention of the season-confused weather. "Ah, that must have been something." Bastilion was almost upset he had missed it. Snow in the summer was an oddity he would only be able to experience in a place such as this. "Perhaps I will get lucky next time if they are as active as you say." Discussing weather would probably be a mundane topic were they anywhere else.
For a while Keith lets
At least, he prays he can't.
"Y'know, uh..." Keith shakes his head, feeling awkward now. He wants to ask outright if Tundra knows what the otherworld is. He wants to find out that he's not the only one that keeps getting sucked back into it. He can't be the only one, but at the same time part of him wants to be the only one, because no-one in the world deserves to go to hell over and over.
The scrawny, fragile, strong young stag shakes his head again and thinks of an excuse. "It's alright. Don't matter." Tundra is safe, Keith thinks. Tundra isn't going to get up and attack him, or hold him down until Austere gets there. No, not a chance. Tundra's fine.
Keith tries to stop thinking about it, but it's hard when he has nothing else to stay. He stares at the idol's tears, quiet.

“Wouldn’t dream of it baby,” Kylar replied, “We can be two Knights together or the Princes Charming.” Kylar broke into laughter at the end of his sentence at the thought of it, although he wouldn’t mind being a Prince – well maybe not of the monarchy of his own country. The British Royalty seemed so bound by ancient tradition and the amount of rules and regulations, at least now, maybe if he and Toukan lived in Arthurian times. He shook his head to dismiss the thought; his mind was running away from him.
@Dannii: His ears perked up
His ears perked up in curiosity as icy eyes blinked. Was the other going to ask him something else but had changed his mind? Tundra found himself growing more curious of this one despite not being sure of socializing with anyone here...
He also wondered at the sudden quietness of the small stag, so found himself doing something he didn't think he would - initiating conversation. "Are you ok?" He also realized he should stop thinking of the other as "other", "small stag", etc. and find out his name. "By the way...what are you called?"
@Mick:
Toukan couldn't help joining in the laughter. He also couldn't help remembering the time Kylar had been turned into a frog and suggested the reindeer kiss him to change him back. He has the urge to roll his eyes at that one. Oh, the corny things they said and did sometimes...
But frankly, he wouldn't have it any other way.

He hadn't actually realised he hadn't said his own name. Keith blinked and flicked an ear, having to think for a few seconds. "Keith," he replied after a few seconds of further silence. "And other variations, dependin' on who you ask."
The small creature exhales, eyelids half-dropping briefly, heavy. "If you're wonderin' why the fuck I talk so much," he started, dry. "It's 'cause silence does my head in, an' you don't seem too talkative. Make sense? I don't fuckin' know, I'm tired, man."

Him? Princely? Toukan wasn't sure where Kylar got that from. He leaned into the somewhat embrace, slowing down a bit to do so. He wished he could kiss in this form, but deer muzzles didn't exactly work right for that. So he settled for another nuzzle that ended in a lick - the closest he could get to kissing.
@Dannii:
Ice-colored eyes were temporarily hidden by another blink at the laughter he received in response to his first question. This one - Keith he called himself - was weirding him out.
More blinking at the explanation of why he talked so much. "I guess that makes sense..." Except Tundra didn't sound so sure when saying that since he didn't have much experience with social situations...

This elicited a frown from the brown bull. He had not been within the Forest in quite some time, and thus had not seen Triston in some time as well...
"I assume he is well..." For he had been when Bastilion had last encountered him...

The reindeer hummed in thought. "Don't really have anywhere in mind. I'm just enjoying spending time with you." Another admittance he was embarrassed saying but meant. "Anywhere you feel like going?" he asked in return.
