Feel free to interact with my deer in either visual or literal format. I'll try to respond as promptly as I can, but I can't make any promises.

Spade looked up in surprise,
Spade blinked as he looked towards the Ruins, eyes following a settling dust cloud. The other stag must've run off that way. Didn't mean to scare him off... He debated on going over there to see if he was ok, but soon enough, the other returned, explaining himself.
Yea...I guess it was kind of loud, wasn't it... That was something else he'd grown used to. But how do I explain my..."tactic" he called it?
"Well..." he attempted to explain, gaze drifting towards the stump as if it would help him form his thoughts. "I rear up, and lunge forward to put my weight behind the attack." He turned back to the smaller stag. I really need to ask his name... "Most of the power behind it comes from the back legs. Hence why I run too." His leg muscles were pretty toned, proof of how much he ran.
[[PAGE 8 IS MINE.]]
Quad is intrigued here,
He rears up, but hesitates, and slinks back. It didn't feel right to him. But he needed to try.
With another rear, he strikes at the stump, but it is a pitiful attempt compared to the other's attack. He backs off, letting his head readjust, before he approaches and tries again. He rears, and puts more force into the blow. A strong hit, strong enough to make his head hurt a little as the antlers seemed to press back into his skull when he tries. The sound isn't nearly as loud, but it is a better attempt.
Stepping back, he shakes his head rapidly to relieve the growing headache he was getting. "I hate to ask, but how did I do?", he questions.
Spade's brows rose in
He winced a bit at the strike, remembering how much his head hurt when he first started out doing that.
"It wasn't too bad really...but...I wouldn't really try doing that so much until you strengthen yourself. Or have more antler to work with maybe." Maybe sharing his fighting technique wasn't the best idea. It was fine for Spade's ram-like antlers - or rather, horns. But it probably wasn't right for everyone.
Quad nods, his head was
Alarm ran through him at
Break someone's skull? Oh man, I hope not. I don't wanna kill anyone; just be able to defend myself.
He bowed in return. "I'm Spade."
He smiles again and nods his
Kylar had entered the forest
He continued through the trees, he was near the idol. He wondered absently if Kahlan might be there. She had been avoiding him reecently and he was beginning to worry, although something might have just been on her mind. If that was the case she would likely be there. He turned for a moment, looking out from the trees to see if she was sitting by the idol. She was not currently there. He frowned for a moment, but continued on. His worries about Kahlan could wait. She was a grown woman, and she was immortal. It was doubtful that anything would really harm her. He wandered down and within a few seconds was at the bridge. The massive Oak tree in sight now. It towered above everything else in the forest. It was the tallest and largest of the trees. Kylar wondered if it was the oldest tree in the forest. It likely was. The people who had inhabited the forest and built the Idol and what was now the Ruins seemed to have left a few things in the forest alone. The pond for instance, never looked as if anything had ever tampered with it, and there were a few larger trees, perhaps old enough.
Wandering further on, the two trees came into sight. He was unsure at that exact second though if the reindeer was there. He could see someone but that could be Ourania, another of Toukan's friends or someone else entirely. He sped up a little, hoping to see if that definietly was his mate sitting there, and as he got closer he was sure that he could see the antlers of a reindeer. The fur was light. He was sure that it was indeed Toukan. He was on his own for the moment it seemed. The sunlight illuminating his fur.
"Hey Touk," Kylar said with a smile on his lips and a cheerful nature to his tone. He continued his approach.
He'd been looking in the
Toukan would often "people watch" like this when he didn't feel like going anywhere or sleeping. Though sleeping usually followed. He was somewhat known for being able to fall asleep almost any time, any place if he felt like it.
He turned his head to look somewhere else, not wanting to stare too long, but stopped when he spotted a familiar figure with large red antlers headed towards him. A smile lit up his eyes as he recognized his boyfriend. "Hey," he returned the greeting, getting to his hooves, being mindful of leg as always, so he could properly greet him.
Kylar smirked when he saw the
"How are you love?" Kylar asked as he came within touching distance of the other deer nuzzling him. He felt relaxed inside the warm soft fur that belonged to Toukan. It was growing out longer now that winter was coming. He wondered how long it would be before Toukan's antlers fell off. He was sure it wasn't much longer after their anniversary that they fell off. Kylar felt more protective during those times. He wanted to make sure that his love was fully defended, even if he could not do the defending himself.
[Didn't get to reply before I
"Pretty good." Even better with you here, he added mentally. Toukan always liked spending time with Kylar, whether it be in the Forest as a deer, or in the human world. He always got this warm and fuzzy feeling around him...even when he got the urge to smack him at times - though that urge had never been acted upon and probably wouldn't be.
"How have you been?" he asked when he pulled back a bit to look at his love. He remembered Kylar had once mentioned that Kahlan had been acting off and it had been bothering him, so Toukan wondered if anything had changed recently since he hadn't seen her in awhile. But he didn't ask about that specifically. Mostly he wondered if there was a reason Kylar had sought him out. Not that he needed one of course.
((Because I'm jonesing for
Seed dropped the stick he was using as a stylus. The poem just wasn't working. No two ways about it, it just wasn't working. The right words were not available, and he wondered if they weren't on vacation somewhere, soaking up the sun. For a stag who had never seen a tropical island, Seed had a lot of fantasies about them. Maybe the first part of that sentence explained the last.
He got up, kicking a rock. His mood was clearly black and slinking down into dissapointment. His ears were pinned back, and he looked slightly pouty. He decided to pick his sunning spot by the lake, beneath the sheltering branches of a soft-spoken willow tree. And so he began to run back towards the bridge and lake, clearing the distance in short time indeed.
But before he settled, when he just stood at the crest of the slope between him and the lake, he glanced over to the part of the lake where the dragonflies buzzed, in the hope (now considered, in the lonely way Seed had, slightly hopeless) that Scape would be there.
He was ignoring them. Or
They need a new hobby, Scape thought to himself, raising his head for a second to glance at the pink-winged dragonflies flitting around him as he drank from the shallows of the pond. Although... the thought continued, I guess they're just excited to talk to someone that isn't one of them. The dragonflies never left the pond after all. Or hardly ever anyway, as he remembered a few times one would accompany him by clinging to his orca mask or a fin-shaped antler...or even his ear.
A certain one was currently sitting on said ear, chattering away. "Rose", he called that one - the biggest of the dragonflies in the swarm and the first of the Forest dragonflies he'd met. He held a sort of fondness for "her" - he couldn't tell which dragonflies were male or female, but this one just gave off a feminine air somehow - even if "she" did like to gossip as much as the others.
Looking bemused at their antics, the dark blue stag dipped his head again for another sip of water. He swore he saw something green from the corner of his eye that wasn't there before, but it wasn't close enough for him to worry about yet.
Seed was a little surprised
When he at last was very close to Scape indeed, he made one great, terrific leap and landed beside his friend in the water, sending a rippling wave that carried with it several loose flowers.
"Scape! What a surprise!"
He said, chuckling a little bit at his own silliness. Now that he had done something like create a giant splash on someone seemingly unsuspecting, the emberassment spread quickly until it could be disspelled.
Kylar considered what he
A little chuckle escaped him at the end of his speech. His attempts at humour were usually funnier to him than most other people, although Toukan usually smirked or blushed or had some kind of reaction to the things that he said. He then remembered that he should be mannerly particularly when he was picking up his boyfriend for a date. "And how are you?" He asked with genuine interest. Although the question had been asked as an afterthought he was interested in how Toukan had been getting on. Particularly since he had just moved into his house. He wanted to make sure that Toukan was happy there. His things had been moved in by Kylar on their anniversary but he had declined Kylar actually getting him anything for moving in.
@Seed: The dragonflies had
The dragonflies had noticed the green deer's approach. They knew who he was, and could tell what he was doing...but they mentioned nothing to the blue deer who still had his head down to reach the water.
With a yelp, Scape leaped forward, almost tumbling over into the water. Not that keeping his balance saved him from getting drenched. He turned surprised eyes towards the other, wondering who had done that...and wondering why he'd gotten no warning from the gossip-loving dragonflies. Rose had fled to avoid the splash even. Those little...
Any thoughts of getting revenge against plotting bugs was cut short at realizing who was standing there.
His mood brightened immediately. "Seed! Hey!" It'd been awhile since he'd seen his best friend. He felt a little bad about that even...
@Mick: It had taken Kylar a
It had taken Kylar a little awhile to say anything in answer, so for a second Toukan wondered if he had considered saying something else. Instead of asking about the pause, though, he just gave an amused smirk with a slight shake of his head, tempted to add an eyeroll but holding it back.
He blinked at the question. Even though it was basically the same question as before, but before had been a "how are you this instant?" while this one was more of a "how are you in general?" He considered things for a moment before answering.
Moving out of his sister's house been odd since he'd lived there most of his life...and living with Kylar meant having to deal with stairs, made challenging due to his leg...but it meant getting to spend more time with him...
"Does 'happy' work as an answer?" Even though he said it in a joking manner, he was also serious about that.
Kylar's near permanant smirk
"Course it does milove," Kylar answered cheerily, "In fact, it was the answer I was hoping for." His voice had dropped in volume becoming almost a low growl as he said that into Toukan's ear, almost seductively - it was near to his 'bedroom voice'. There was no need to make the statement private like that, Kylar knew but still he had felt like doing it anyway. There had been no rhyme nor reason for the action just the whims of Kylar's brain. An added benefit he supposed was that it would set the mood for everything else that he had planned this evening. A romantic and seductive date with his boyfriend and room mate. "Ready for tonight?" He asked to make sure that Toukan did not have any qualms with leaving the forest today. He wouldn't mind if something was going on and Toukan wanted to stay, it would be easy enough to rearrange his plans for another evening. Though it would mean leaving for a little while whilst he cancelled or rearranged his reservations. That would be the only thing.
Seed nuzzled his friend
"It's really been too long! How have you been?"
Seed had been feeling guilty about how long it had been, himself. No, more than that...He felt sad. There had been times when they would see one-another every day... And those times had been so happy and simple that they felt untouchable, untaintable. They were above any sort of ruin, except in that they were no longer the times Seed was living in. And so he missed them, and he missed Scape; and from experience, he treasured opportunities like this, seemingly random, to see his dear friend.
@Mick: He couldn't help but
He couldn't help but blush a bit - not that the words, but at the tone Kylar had said them into his ear like it was some innuendo or something. He wouldn't put it past his boyfriend to do that. He often said things just to make Toukan blush. No one else made him blush so much before.
He attempted to shake off the blush before answering with a nod of his head. "Yea."
[Shortness. >>; ]
@Seed: Since he was still
Since he was still dripping from splashed water, Seed would probably get wet as well. Scape wondered if he realized that. "Guess I don't need to splash him back then." Unless they decided to have a splash fight. There was an idea.
"Not bad. Nothing to complain about anyway. Though I heard I missed the Lightbringers Convention?" He'd forgotten about it, though Blue had mentioned in passing that he'd come across the parade they had and joined in for awhile.
The grin remained and it
"Is there anything that you want to do before we go...or should we head to the Ruins and my portal out now?" He asked.
He was unsure of what Toukan would actually want to do if there was nothing pressing, might say goodbye to Ourania if she was around since she was almost like his sister. Although...Kylar himself hadn't spoken to her much, she seemed to leave them alone a lot when they were together. He wondered if sometimes his being there drove her off. The idea of that was a bit saddening, for as much as he liked it when the fawns avoided his glares, he wouldn't want to be the reason that Toukan's friends didn't see as much of them as they liked. He was perfectly willing to share his silver haired lover with his friends, it was only the fawns that he disliked. Because they didn't know when it was apropo to leave them alone. His friends would know when they could come and when perhaps that Kylar would like some alone time with the other man.
Seed was indeed wet, giving
"You did indeed. It was a good turn-out...And I... had a good time."
And he did. But no longer in the moment, he could think about what else happened. About seeing her there, for a moment, looking at him and running away because she knew it hurt. Laying it out like that, it was stupid to be unhappy. It was selfish. So he wasn't trying to think about it.
@Mick: Leaving now didn't
Leaving now didn't seem like it'd be a problem. He hadn't been doing anything important before, and hadn't felt like doing much anyway. It was just one of those quieter days where he let his friends seek him out if they were around and wanted his company. The most he would've done was take a walk perhaps, and that was if he got bored of "people watching". So...
Toukan shook his head. "I can't think of anything I need to do right now..." He let the sentence hang, hoping his answer was clear.
@Seed: Scape tilted his head
Scape tilted his head at the slight pause in Seed's sentence, but wasn't sure what to make of it. "I'll have to catch the next Forest event then." He'd caught Quamar's Zombie Party at least.
[Starting to get brainfail.]
[Which means it's time for
"Please do; it's hardly the same without you."
Seed said, re-bolstering his cheer by vanishing errant thoughts. As long as he could keep focusing on what was in front of him, he could keep surviving. That was what it felt like, anyway.
"That said, I'm sure if we really wanted to, we could put together our own party; you're good at parties."
Seed could remember some of Scape's various birthdays, which were always real hoots. Seed party-gathering was...Less good. Very much less good. But it never quite stopped him.
"I bet if we mulled it over a drink, we could think of something to celebrate, a way to celebrate it..Though, many celebrations end up the same."
He added, with a laugh. It had been a good while since he had gone drinking with Scape, but even just a casual drink at his favorite spot was nice. Seed rarely could pull a friend who wasn't Scape to the idol for a drink.
[Seed...Are you creating a project for me without my foreknowledge...? Eh.]
*Tracks* Finally found
Finally found this...I shall use this in the future
Kylar nodded. "Ok then," He
"Ok then," He said with a smirk, "Shall we head to the ruins..." That was where his entrance and exit to the forest lay, there were two very old ruins between this realm and the other which seemed linked somehow, for when one wished to enter the forest, they thought of the other realms ruins and a portal opened within the Ruins that took the one that entered into the other ruins. Kylar noticed though that the other deer never seemed to see the portals, but perhaps that's because they weren't leaving the forest. He was only taking Toukan with him because he had remembered that Kahlan had once said that she had gotten a friend through hers. It had been simple according to her, but she hadn't really said much on how she had taken through her friend, she hadn't even really told him. She had just absently mentioned one day that she had brought one through with her and sent them back the same way.
[...short]
@Seed: Scape laughed. Good at
Scape laughed. Good at parties? He wasn't sure about that.
"Who says you need a reason to celebrate? I will take you up on that drink though." He missed hanging out with his best friend like this.
@Lex: Guessing I should
@Mick: "Sure," Toukan
"Sure," Toukan returned with a nod, curious of how this portal at the Ruins worked. Normally he left in his own way. It was like he could leave when he slept if he wished, and wake up in the human world where he left from. It probably was like how deer could vanish in a puff of smoke sometimes. But he'd never asked anyone who might see him leave if that was what happened.
[Slight fail since I'm in a rush.]
Kylar turned in the direction
He slowly took the first few steps, moving a fair amount slower than normal so that Toukan would catch up easily, even though he wasn't as fast due to his leg. Kylar would be there during the walk across to offer his support if Toukan needed it though he had known the reindeer long enough to know that that would not be an issue. Toukan could run and dance in this place if he needed to and he had often times found the other wandering the forest and that seemed to present no difficulty at all, but still he would be there. Always the first time that he might need some help. It was back to daylight again, Kylar mused, as he took in his surroundings for the first time really. The last time he had been around the forest much, there had been mist and darkness and all things that one would expect of a place around Hallowe'en, the Gods of the Forest seemed to celebrate this time by creating the theme inside the forest. He wondered if that caused them any real trouble or they simply did by...something similar to a snap of the fingers, perhaps a nose twitch like the famous witch Samantha.
He kept up easily enough with
Since they weren't that far from the Old Oak, the Ruins started to come into view. Toukan didn't really visit here that much anymore. Or not the Ruins themselves really, for he did wander to the hill next to it if one of his friends was there. He just...didn't find the old stone building that appealing anymore. No longer sleeping there was something he didn't regret; that sunbeam by the Old Oak felt much more welcoming. He wasn't even sure why he'd chosen that building as his Forest residence to begin with.
[I am amused at the Bewitched reference. ]
"An excuse, then? Well, you
He added, beginning a trot towards the crying idol. When he was sure Scape was following, he broke into a run. Seed ran with his head thrown back, enjoying the force of pushing it away. He always had, and he could introspect for days and only come up with partial explanations. He occaisonally turned his head to check if Scape was still there (maybe he was a little paranoid; he just never felt sure someone wouldn't just turn and walk away, or just stop and go back to their business), and then followed the turn of his head with the turn of his body so he could loop back, and then they were running even.
"Race you!"
((Sometimes, you just don't have time to dig up fonts.))
"You're on!" he accepted the
"You're on!" he accepted the challenge. Though it wasn't much of a race. Scape wasn't trying to win; just enjoy running with his best friend.
Seed wasn't trying to win,
"Ah! Here we are!"
He stopped and checked to see if he had won or lost by looking around.
"That was a good one. Almost sublime, really."
He added, catching his breath a bit. He was a big believer in the sublime, though whether or not a good run qualified was something most scholars therof would disagree with him on. But most scholars were not deer, and most scholars were not deer who once knew what it was to move at geological speeds.
[Such a good show~] The
The Ruins were an interesting sight, a man made structure in the middle of a dense forest that showed only two other signs of human colonization. He wondered where they had went, there was no evidence that the forest had been damaged by warfare although given the age of the ruins it was possible that the damage had simply healed over the long years. As yet he had found no immortal that had been in the forest long enough to answer the question. He wasn't aware if they even existed. Perhaps everyone that had been here was gone, perhaps when the Gods had taken up residence they had removed everything else...but then that would mean it was likely the Ruins would no longer be there. Perhaps if he ever encountered one of the Gods on its own he would ask it...though he doubted it would give an answer since none of the others knew, and presumably someone had asked at some point. Maybe they knew not the answer themselves.
"...You know," Kylar said wonderingly, "I've been wondering. You're such a happy, lovely boy...why did you sleep inside the Ruins?" His question was something that he had probably asked before, but he didn't remember the answer that he had given if he had given them.
@Seed: Scape was almost
Scape was almost grinning as he ran, so when they reached their destination, kicking up a small dust cloud from the sudden stop, he was a bit disappointed. He would've loved to run longer, nowhere near winded yet. Though he did feel his heart rate had increased. Guess I'm starting to slack a bit... he thought, intending to fix that.
"We need to do that again sometime."
@Mick: Toukan blinked, both
Toukan blinked, both at not expecting that question, and that he had been thinking something similar a second ago. Kind of creepy...
His brow creased as he thought about it again. "I'm not really sure now." He shrugged. "Maybe because it's the only building and I'm used to them." Swear I was asked this once. I probably said the same thing then even.
"We absolutely do," Seed
Seed agrees, stretching himself so he can keep the good feeling of his muscles for a bit. He at last made his way down the slope where the idol's water was, lapping at his ankles.
"...Do you think she minds, that we drink her tears?"
The idea that the idol was so,ehow aware of it all was one that either appealed to Seed or made him feel sad -- he wasn't sure which. Perhaps the sadness was appealing to him, which would make sense. This is Seed we're talking about, after all. Then, in a flash of silliness, he added in an overly-dramatic voice and a falsely wounded look,
"What sort of terrible deer are we, to profit from a lady's tears?"
He faux-swooned, ending up against the idol.
Kylar nodded in response, not
"Right nearly there...I've left clothes for us at the opening of the portal," He said. Kylar wasn't sure if he entered the portal with clothing what would happen to it. He had been wearing them when he had first came in, and when he had returned it had been lying where the portal had left him.
@Seed: Scape wondered about
Scape wondered about that too for a moment. Did the Crying Idol mind? But his thoughts were cut short at the bout of silliness from Seed. He let out a laugh at the faux faint. "Oh yea, how could we?" His voice held too much amusement for him to really play along.
A mischief spark entered his eyes suddenly. With a flash of a gold hoof, a small wave of water was lifted from the stream towards the green stag.
@Mick: As they passed by,
As they passed by, Toukan glanced at the graves that were next to the Ruins. He hadn't really thought much of them before, but he supposed they could be a little off-putting. There was one he had visited on occasion, but not for awhile now. Hoshiko, Kaoori's unborn daughter. He'd visit it if he saw Kaoori over there - really to visit the blue doe herself - but hardly ever the grave on its own.
Turning his attention forward again, he wondered about their approaching this specific section of the Ruins. How exactly did this portal work? His brow creased in thought. And what was that about clothes? This definitely was a very different method of entering and leaving the Forest than he was used to.
Kylar kept walking until he
"Ready?" Kylar asked making finally sure that Toukan was ready to leave the forest.
He jumped a bit at the
"I guess so," Toukan answered. He wondered what would happen when he stepped through it. Would it be like how he sort of "poofed" from one place to another?
Stepping into the light was a
"Hey!" Seed shied away from
Seed shied away from the splash, still getting soaked in the end. To this he puffed himself up like a hot air balloon.
"How dare you, sir! First drinking the tears of a lady, and then assaulting an innocent pilgrim thirsting for a drink. En Guarde, sir!"
Seed said, his voice full of righteous indignation. Seed wasn't a bad actor, actually. He kicked up some water with his foreleg, sending a small wave to splash up at Scape.
"...That was significantly more impressive in my head, I swear."
He admitted, looking down at Scape's likely soaked legs and/or chest.
@Mick: Toukan almost didn't
Toukan almost didn't know what was happening. It was...somewhat shocking to find you were switching forms. Sure, the magic of the Forest changed a deer's form in a flash of light. But that was quick. Sudden. This was not. There had also been no warning.
Did Kylar do this every time he switched between the human world and the Forest?
Toukan definitely could say he preferred his own travel method. It didn't force a switch of form unless he wanted it to. And even then, it was like falling asleep and waking up somewhere else.
Plus...
Toukan blinked as he suddenly became aware of something, feeling his now-human face heat up.
...he usually reappeared with clothes on.
@Seed: Scape tried and failed
Scape tried and failed to keep from bursting into laughter. Especially at the failed attempt at a significant splash.
He stopped his laughter just enough to be able to talk. "Sounds like you've already had enough to drink," he joked.
Kylar laughed as he saw the
"Enjoying the view?" He asked amusedly.
"Oh, what? I can't be in good
That was the truth. Seed said it a little sadly and a little chidingly, in a much more normal and sober tone of voice. He offered a shrug and finally took a sip of the water, swallowing before adding.
"I'm just taking the pleasure of still having some family, of a sorts...Is that really odd?"
There was no sarcasm in that last question. He wasn't sure if it was odd or not, only that it was how he felt. The stag leaned back up against the rock with the crying eyes, lifting his head to take a drink so fresh it only had been in the air a second or two.
