How the Forest was Created

How the Forest was Created, a theory told by scaredypants Epon (a response to Quadraptor's post 'Forest Fables')

Oh goodness gracious young fawn, you did give me a fright! I'm sorry that I shrieked like that-- now, now, no need to cry, you just scared me that's all! What's that? You're lost? Well I'm sure your mother and father are looking for you so stay in one place and it'll be easier. Don't fret about it, I'll tell you a story to pass the time. How this amazing forest you got lost in was created, I must of heard this from my father was I was as young as you...

The Fawn Storyteller Project (Please read if you currently have a fawn OR a deer who is a fawn at heart)

I'd like to write a story here for every fawn that goes on the community site individually. Every. Single. One.

No exceptions. Even the puppet fawns count.

This project of mine will involve my character Jergens telling each and every fawn he meets a story. Either based on the fawn him/herself or based on their location.

The reasons for doing a project this massive?

1. To make new players feel like part of a family.
2. These stories will be my welcoming gifts to them.
3. I need the practice.
4. I'm extremely bored
5. I love writing for other people's characters

After doing my fable for Quad's project I thought to myself, "What if Jergens acted as a a sort of 'fawn storyteller'? Like a children's storyteller? There are already a number of 'storytellers' but no 'fawn storytellers' that I know of.

That, and it gives him a purpose to stay in the forest besides searching.

So, if you are interested, then please post a link to your fawn's bio. If your fawn does not have a bio, then just tell me any personality and appearance information you think I might need to know.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Back from mah vaca :3 I'll continue working on these as much as a I can now. Thanks for being patient!

Thank you very much and I hope this works out :3

Seed's Story of the Birth of the Old Oak: A Forest Fable

The Forest Fable Project

Oh, a story? Well, it’s not my usual manner of work, but I suppose I could think of something. Let me ponder the matter further, I’m sure I can recall something…

Ah, yes. This is a story about my dear friend, the Old Oak, and how she came to be. Now, this story, I swear upon my soul, is true. All the stories about her are true – how this is so, I cannot say, except that all stories about her are true. The Forest is, I think, a place where truth is many-faced. This is also a story about gods, and the birth of the forest, and about love. It’s not a good story if, on some level or another, it’s not about love.

The Birth of the Old Oak

Once upon a time, years and years ago, before there were years to count the time, or days – when all in the forest was a single expanse of color. We see that time, or that space, in our dreams sometimes; I know I do, at least, but I can’t speak for your dreams. It is blue and black and fades at the edges. It has no trees, no movement, no grass, no life. Back then, there were three gods – two gods, a red and a gold, who were really one god, and a green goddess. And they were all very dear friends. For them, the void was a great playground, because they had one another to lighten their loads. They had each other to play with, and all the raw stuff of the world, which they formed up like ephemeral castles of sand.

And then one day, the red god turned to her fellows and said, “we have such great fun in this world, but I believe we could have more fun.”

And the other two asked “How? How could we have more fun than we have now?

Why The Old Oak is Hollow - As Told By Jergens

Why The Old Oak is Hollow
As told by Jergens

It was still raining. I never liked rain to begin with, and I also never liked the creepy old oak thing. It was too bad that it was the only shelter around when it started raining. That weird echo noise that comes from it… ugh… it just weirds me out, you know man?

Anyway, I found myself housed with about… Man, I can’t remember… pretty sure it was like, six or seven fawns. I like fawns. I won’t admit that to everyone. Hell, sometimes I wish I could have kids of my own. Maybe adopt one of the little orphan buggers or something.

But I’m getting off topic. Anyway, all of these little fawns had one thing in common; they were getting out of the rain. I was the only adult there, so they all huddled next to me, curled into my curly red fur and whatnot. It was pretty damn cute, but I digress.

“Sir, tell us a story…” one of the little fawns asked me. Soon there was an entire chorus of them. “Story! Story!” they whined, pressing against me. Guh, that got me. These little buggers were just too cute.

“Okay…” I muttered, trying to think of something to tell them. Unlike other deer like Trees or Seed, my story-telling abilities, well… to put it in simple terms, suck. Royally. I had to try though… Poor kids…

I thought of something nice, then. Not very good, but it would do. “Alright, why don’t I tell you kids why the oak tree is hollow?” the fawns quieted down and cuddled against me, smiling.

“Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young doe princess named…” I paused here, and looked at one of the braver looking fawns that didn’t seem afraid at all. “What’s yer name, kid?” I asked. The little fawn wagged her tail

“Sterrrrre!”

“Okay… A beautiful doe princess named Sterre. She lived with her twin brother…” I looked at a little fawn next to her, one that hadn’t said a single word. Sterre bounced up and nuzzled him.

“Oiiiisss!

Return to Nature - Story IX

Return to Nature Index

You have found yourself daydreaming during the next few days. You imagine yourself in a wonderful forest, the sunlight piercing the canopy and illuminating the air with rays of light. You see specks of pollen float around aimlessly, and in the distance you see great deer enjoying the scenery and grazing without fear. You truly think that these visions are of the Endless Forest, as if it was a very real place.

That night, you fall asleep and dream once again of the same place. You find a waterfall, and taking a sip of the water from the pool below, you see yourself...as a doe. You never noticed you were walking on four legs, and this truly surprises you.

You then find yourself sitting on a fallen log, in your human body. The dreams hit you - they were from the doe whose spirit now fills you. You were seeing the world through her eyes.

You realize that you are in a similar place to the dreams you had seen. You see your deer nearby, and you hear the faint sound of water. Standing, you greet your friend, who bows and says, "Now that you have become one with the spirit of the doe, you will begin to feel the world around you much clearer. It is difficult for humans to listen to nature, as their heads are always cluttered with their daily lives. For deer and other animals, it is much different. We have few worries when we are connected to the land, and it is kind to us in return. When nature decides that it is time for us to die, we willingly accept our death and give ourselves back to her. And then, we are always given a choice...", they pause here.

"A choice?", you ask. The deer nods, they knew you would ask. "We are given the choice to have another life or to rest eternally.", they say, "Now you understand why I know so much about the humans from so long ago. I was there living alongside them."

You start to wonder about this yourself.
