The old doe lifted her head with ease to find the clear sky above her, and the sun warming her fur. She stood, under the shade of a willow tree and a breeze caught the thin branches brushing gently against her fur. She turned to find a fawn, a bit timid and unsure of what he thought of this doe. She approached him gingerly.
"Where did you come from, mistress doe?" the little fawn asked, backing up. She stopped approaching the little one, seeing he was not interested in making friends at the moment.
"I'm not quite sure actually... what's your name?"
"Jagare, and yours?" the little fawn looked thoughtfully at the older doe.
"I have a lot of names..." her voice trailed off, beginning to realize she had to have one name to be known by. THe fawn seemed confuzed and stamped his foot eagerly.
"You don't know your name? Didn't your mommma give you one?"
"I don't think I have a mother Jag." The fawn looked quite sad at this remark. His ears twitched.
"Your name will be Mistress, but when you spell it-- it will have a "y" in it. Like, "My"... but it won't be pronounced "My Stress", it will be "Mistress."... "Mystress" is your name..."
"Alright, but, why is there a "y" in it?"
"Because your mine. My Mistress." Mystress seemed pleased at the gesture of the little fawn. "Can you be my momma?" Mystress' breath caught in her throat.
"W-what? Be your mother?"
"Yeah, we both don't haves mommas... so, I thought-- maybe you could be mine?" The small fawn shrunk in size, a bit timid of Mystress' reaction. Mystress gently nuzzled the fawn, who in return layed down under her tall legs. And shut his eyes with a smile. Of course I'll be your mother little one.
The sun blazed from above, and it's rays sprinkled down upon Mystress standing over the little fawn. "Mystress, Mystress! I am the voice f your past! I am what you were before you are now. I was the deer, whos body you have taken dear one. My name was Jyuniper, and I was a healer of these little ones. The one whos body you guard. The fawn below you... I was mortal, and greatly grieved over when my body took its journey's end. If you will allow me, let me be your voice. Let me speak the words you wish to say. Let me live again within you!"
Mystress didn't know what to think about this mysterious voice speaking to her from above, she swallowed her fear of it, and nodded her head slightly. I thank thee kindly, spirit Mystress. You will bring light, and my voice shall only be of comfort, and of light... I promise thee.
Mystress shut her eyes, and in an instant she could see a woman with long black hair, cloaked in a shawl. Berries were woven into her hair neatly, and her skin was an even olive color. Mystress bowed to the lady who in return touched the crest of the does head. I am with you, Mystress of Jyuniper. She evaporated into the air with a thoughtful smile glowing in her eyes.
Mystress shot up, finding herself sleeping. Her hooves shook the ground with a startled movement. Her eyes fell upon the sleeping fawn she was to protect, his thin body curled in a delicate oval. She smiled and hovered over him for a moment, studying his features. His spots were still vivid and his ears were quite large. "Where is your mother dear one...?"
"Jyuniper..?" a masked stag walked briskly to Mystress. His pace slowed when he neared, and his expression was still of surprize. She wasn't sure what to say. "All these years. How are you alive? I was merely a fawn when you past into the next world!" Yorres, greetings! I have returned to you now, yet confusion is setting in..."
Yorres pawed the ground and sat. "What's going on?" She turned and sat with him. A face she had never seen, yet deep within the shelvs of her mind, she knew him very well.
