original post
I would just like to ask how I should begin I suppose... I think I should have an art blog to keep track of my paintings and I feel somewhat compelled to begin a biography or some kind of collection for brd. I've seen so many beautifully cssed profiles and so on here and have a bit of css knowledge myself. I just don't know how to start.
Could I ask for some advice, tips, or hints?

Thank you so much in advance.

What kind of CSS design are

What kind of CSS design are you thinking of?

Something simple...? Maybe

Something simple...? Maybe deciding that would be a good way to start... It's just a bit overwhelming. Is it very difficult to modify the default look of a blog? How would I even begin playing with it?

I started with a box code I

I started with a box code I copied and pasted from a CSS help blog. :3
Look at one of the CSS guides on the site if you need help, they have a ton of codes.
I'm lucky enough to have a few TEFers on my contact list who know some about CSS coding.
While I'm still not very good at it, I managed a biography.
*Not very helpful*

Thank you for your advice, i

Thank you for your advice, i will look for a guide. I understand how to write CSS, I guess I don't know how a blog entry like this one goes from this default look to looking more like this or this, for example. Where is the code editor...?

PS- I found some good guides for TEF CSS... will post them here for my own reference. But I am still looking for information on how to adjust the CSS? Thank you!

Well, you can either change

Well, you can either change the entire look of the page or just make a nicely designed scroll box in your blog- or even both.
A good source of help is Unplugged's CSS Guid. It's eyeblinding and a little confusing if you rush through it- but if you take your time and reference back to it, it's much easier to change the designs.
For a scroll box, I'm not entirely sure how to put the code here without messing with it, but here it is.

< div style="width:140px; height:170px; overflow:auto; background:#e38c00; border: 2px dashed #ffffff; text-align:justify; padding:10px; font: 11px; letter-spacing:0pt;" >< div style="width:120x; height:130px; overflow:auto; background:#ffffff; border: 10px solid #fbbf5e; text-align:justify; padding:10px; font: 11px; letter-spacing:0pt;" > Note that this seemingly single scroll box has TWO different scroll boxes in it. Simply remove from the second < div style ... to the 0pt;" > to remove the inside one.< / div >< / div >

Simply remove the spaces between the words and the tags.

This is what it looks like~

Note that this seemingly single scroll box has TWO different scroll boxes in it. Simply remove from the second < div style ... to the 0pt;" > to remove the inside one.

I'm sorry if I didn't make any sense ^^;

[EDIT;] Usually making a Coding Test Blog helps a lot when you're trying to get the right look. I'd say just play around with it and if you need any help, just let us know. There is no code editor, the codes must be made by hand or, in some cases, by someone else and pasted into the blog contents thingy you write in.
eyestrain's picture

It made a lot of sense, thank

It made a lot of sense, thank you very much! I think I have the resources I need now to get started. I guess the last thing I am confused about is this. To simply write new divs within the body of the blog post makes sense to me. But then how would I go about editing the header and navigation bar/page colors?

Sorry if I am asking really obvious questions... I really appreciate you replying and explaining so patiently.

The first one has the node

The first one has the node area set to transparent, which you can do like so: .node {background: transparent;} Of course, the areas beside the .node area need to be set to transport and Unplugged's guide can help you there big time.

The scroll areas are this code http://www.w3schools.com/Css/pr_pos_overflow.asp

To make it without the overflow, just take scroll off and it'll be something like this I did for Deiyoru's:
<*div style="border: 1px solid #000; padding: 25px; background: #050F1F; width: 750px;"*>Text here<*/div*> without the astericks. You can also move the box by adding "margin-left: 50px" but that's just an estimate. A good way to learn is to experiment but w3schools is also a great place to learn a lot more.

Also, a WONDERFUL tool is Firebug, if you use Firefox. I helps me find some other things to edit like the leaf for the titles. You can replace it like I did at Verdoc's biography with this:

#squeeze h2:before{content: url('http://a.imageshack.us/img530/6017/verdocpicto.gif');}

Your own image of course to replace.
arrowdoe's picture

Those are within Unplugged's

Those are within Unplugged's blog code. The header and sidebar start at body{background:#ffffff} and end at .item-list{background:#990000} ~
To change the colors of those, simply paste a new HEX color code with the existing one and then delete the one you wish to remove. I'm no expert at it- so I apologize if I end up not helping (:

[e] If you'd like, I can mess with the coding myself to help you out.
eyestrain's picture

Would I be able to change

Would I be able to change this post into my experimental blog? I suppose I just have to start playing.

Thank you both for your help, I will try to get this untangled to where I understand it.

Indeed! Just remember to keep

Indeed! Just remember to keep your css below the blog summary cutoff so it won't leak

Leak...?

There is just so much to this that I don't know about. Should I put it below a cut even if there is no cut?

I still don't completely understand but I will just go for it and follow your advice.

Also... thank you arrowdoe. I am really touched that you like my work so much. I'd have never thought to put it on something portable. That you get pleasure out of it validates the time and effort that goes into it. I am so happy you would share my efforts with me.

I posted the question as a DA

I posted the question as a DA journal but I know not everyone who might be interested in the calendar would be on DA.

If you would, please let me know which of my drawings or paintings you would like me to submit to the calendar contest. Because I want to choose an image that the community enjoys seeing.
Thank you.

Whilst all your art is

Whilst all your art is absolutely incredible and would totally make the best calender evaaah, I somehow see 'youth' as being a piece I reckon would really fit the calender. Just having that contrast of fawn and stag, and the colours-it's very conceptual, as well as beautiful, but then pretty much all your art is! Laughing out loud

I dunno, I just think this one would make an epic calender piece :3

For me, I would probably most

For me, I would probably most like to see "The Blue Bowl" in my calendar, because it's such an adorable and feel-good kind of picture that would cheer me up to see on my wall. :3 Then again, "Youth" is probably my true favorite of your pictures, and "Daisy Antlers" would also fit a calendar very elegantly.

Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong by chosing any of your pictures... They're all wonderful.

Thank you all very much, I am

Thank you all very much, I am making a tally and will submit at least one image by the end of the week. If it's very close I will submit the top two and let Bubblywums and those involved with judging decide.
I truly appreciate you all taking the time to look and give your feedback. It is a privilege to have your time and attention and whether or not I make it into the calendar, it is a pleasure to have your support. Thanks so much.

Wow, I must say I am totally

Wow, I must say I am totally blown away from your art... I've been following it rather silently, but I love each and every of your masterpieces and it's very hard to decide for one that would fit best into the calendar. I think 'blue bowl' would look stunning, as would 'daisy antlers' or 'eternal forest'. However, you can be pretty certain that at least one of them will be chosen for the calendar, as your style simply matches it perfectly and your beautiful ways of portraying the forest is what we all love to see. <3
Ohpff, I fear I'm starting to ramble some useless stuff here, I'm sorry. <3 But I'm certainly tracking this post.
