The Meeting of the Five

Not sure where this will fit into my stories but I wanted to write it. I also never explained how Caw returned to the Endless Forest so here ya go.

-------------------------------------

He was compelled to get up and walk this night. The blackbuck nudged his daughter, "Hey Zephyr, I have a funny feeling that something will happen tonight.", Quad spoke to her. The doe sat up, shaking the snow from her fur, "What do you think it'll be?", she asked. Her father shook his head, "Don't know, but I'm going to go walking for a bit and see." The doe stood up and stretched, "I'll come with you. I'm not sleepy."

The two walked in the snow going toward the Twin Gods' statues. The sky was clear and starry, and a slight wind chilled them. Zephyr pressed up against her father for warmth, "I wish the Twin Gods would make it warmer.", she said. Quad let out a sigh and nodded. He was a little tired of the cold himself.

As they stopped on the hill, they saw a few others had come. The ghost deer, Trunks, smiled to them and bowed. His body was surrounded by a few strange glowing orbs, as he was a guide for lost souls. "Hello, my friends.", Trunks spoke. Blixt was also there, the candles on his antlers all lit and radiating light around them. He, too, bowed to them, but he was the more silent type.

Pent slowly made his way toward them, "The trees told me to come here. And one of them said I was getting fat, the nerve!", the pronghorn nipped. Zephyr looked toward Quad, "He's a strange one isn't he?", she whispered to him. Quad smiled, "Don't forget he's your uncle. You're related to him.", the stag replied.

As he spoke those words, two orbs pulsated from the statues before the deer. They morphed and shaped into Michael and Auriea, and immediately the five deer bowed to them in respect.

The gift of the seed (poem)

A deer once
Gave me a seed.
I put it away in an old box,
Not knowing what to do with it.
The seed was thus forgotten.
It lay dormant for a long time.
And all the while I became weary.
Then one day I found it again.
And then I planted the seed,
And soon
A sprout
Appeared.
And then
It became
A great big tree
That nurtured and protected
Me many
Years
On

On vanity, materialism, and standards (discussion topic)

Just a new idea I wanted to introduce, please feel free to post your thoughts about this. None of this is an attack on anyone here, it's really my views of people in general.

My eyes have been opened since learning from Buddhist and Zen teachings. It hasn't even been that long ago that I started looking into it, and I have a completely different outlook on life and people. The teachings encourage you to be open minded when it comes to others, but I wanted to get some opinions on a few things I just don't understand about people.

I've noticed that there are people who are obsessed with showing off. They drive the most expensive cars they can get (and often spend hours keeping them shiny and spotless), wear expensive clothing and jewelry, take hours to put makeup on and do their hair, and so on.

I don't understand who they're trying to impress. I may be a guy who doesn't understand people, I guess. It seems so stupid to me that people would go that far out of their way to glorify themselves, and generally others don't like those kind of people. It's like the women that dress in a revealing way and then get mad when someone stares at them, you know?

I try to be different. I have a few rules when it comes to the way I dress (for example, I don't wear orange shirts with blue jeans), but otherwise I prefer to be comfortable. I don't understand the purpose of high heeled shoes - they've been proven uncomfortable, they look uncomfortable, but they still wear them. Is 'looking taller' more beneficial than comfort?

It seems like all people care about lately is money. Movies lately have been themed around the ultimate goal or climax being that the main character "gets a whole lot of money". I watched two yesterday that were exactly like that. I wish people would realize that worshiping paper is just as stupid as spending hours to glorify yourself. Yes I understand that having money, you can do whatever you'd like with it.

The Firefly Deer

((Renamed from "The Brotherhood of Five" since that suggests that Hex is not part of the family or is not a sibling. And yes, this is a spinoff of Pega's "Dragonfly Deer", but I did ask for consent and she didn't seem to have a problem. I never had an official name for Quad and his siblings (and I may include Zephyr in here as well despite being a 2nd generation deer), and since they all have used light abilities to fight Iugulare, I thought it would be fitting as fireflies can produce light and are often shining in the dark. I've got a lot I still need to include in this so be patient.

Also if anyone has the time, I would love an artwork of Hex for here. Details are in the comments *nuzzles*))

THE FIREFLY DEER

History - Six siblings were created near the beginning of the Endless Forest as guardians of the light. They would be the protectors of the Forest whenever darkness would try to take over. When one of the siblings vanished, an evil force named Iugulare appeared and began to infect the animals of the Forest. The first Grand Talux, Caw, fought against the infection, but was captured and failed to defeat her. The Twin Gods were forced to destroy all they created and began the Forest once again, with Blixt becoming the second Grand Talux. When Iugulare invaded again, Blixt also failed to defeat her, and the Forest was destroyed and rebuilt a third time, Trunks becoming the third Grand Talux. He, too, failed.

The Endless Forest you see today is the fourth attempt, with Quad as the Grand Talux. If he fails, all of the deer who live in the Forest would be killed, and a fifth Endless Forest would be built with Pent as the Grand Talux.

A Bare Tree (Poem repost)

I wrote this for Serendipity as a gift for this post of hers, but I wanted to share it with everyone so here ya go.

A bare tree sits alone, her roots covered in snow.
The winter has stripped her of the leaves that hid what she was for the rest of the year.
But as she sighs and dreams of better days,
A cardinal, a robin, a blue jay, and other birds come and sit upon her branches.
And they sing and dance, joyous of the safety and comfort the tree gives them.
The birds in return make the tree beautiful during the winter.
But she was beautiful already, and had nothing to hide.
Beauty can often be overlooked or masked,
but true beauty is expressed with the kindness and generosity of our hearts

And now for your viewing pleasure... (inner tube sledding vid + roman candle pics + deer pics)

...my fun in the snow, along with my brother's fun laughing at me and making this video. Enjoy Eye

Don't worry, I didn't get hurt - I actually push off of the tree with my right hand but it looks like I faceplant into it. The inner tube actually popped at that point too, a tree limb on the ground punctured it.

And later on my brother set up his camera to take some time-elapse pics and I fired off some roman candles. It was funny at the end because we were lighting the wrong side by accident XD

This one is my favorite

On the last day I was there, we went by a nearby battlefield, and as we were driving around, we found some deer. I took some photos but my camera was terrible, so these are from my brother's camera:

Just an idea on shapeshifting

I've started to notice that a lot of animals seem to make me think of Quad when they have black and white fur patterns. It made me wonder about the transform/shapeshift spells...

What if the Endless Forest deer eventually developed magic where they could shapeshift into any animal, and on their own free will?

I was thinking that I may be seeing Quad as an embodiment of other animals, that I feel his presence even when I see another animal that reminds me of him. Like he's always watching over me.

A few examples for Quad:

Dark Eyed Junco
Kaibab Squirrel
Canadian Goose
"Black" Coyote
Crossocheilus Siamensis "Algae-eater fish"

Obviously this isn't limited to my deer - feel free to post up pictures of animals you think resemble your own deer!

But yeah...it's like they're always protecting us.

The snow has fallen (poem)

On this day
The snow has fallen
The land has been blanketed
I walk through it, leaving my trail
I see the tree limbs hold small mounds
And watch the birds stare back at me there
And for a moment, I thought I caught a glimpse
Thinking I saw you walking in the distance
And I suddenly feel your warmth flow
You left for me a trail of hoofprints
And I follow it willingly to you
The snow has fallen
For us two

Quad - from stag to guardian

It all began when I was first introduced to him. He didn't have a name, I didn't even know what he should look like. But he gave me a smile and said, "Whatever you'd like, I'd be happy with."

I always called myself "QuadRaptor". It came from an old shooter game where a power-up was called the "Quad Damage", and my favorite dinosaur at the time was the velociraptor, so the two were combined. I've never had a more suitable nickname, so I called him "Quad" as well. If it really had a hidden meaning, I will never know.

I wanted him to wear the real deer mask and the gazelle antlers so he'd look more like a goat, which at the time was my favorite animal. He found the beluga pelt, and I fell in love with the look, and he agreed. I always thought it made him look like he was smiling with big, puffy white cheeks.

He first started out as a mischief maker, he loved smelling other deer's butts and getting them to react. But then we compromised that it was getting old and we'd rather do something else. Then he decided to be more silly, dancing and laughing every day, hanging out with anyone he could find. Before I got rooted too deeply into the community...

I came up with a story for him, and soon after I invented a species of winged deer called "Talux". Quad was the "Grand Talux", and had four wings to match his name. He was a healer and a fighter for all that was good. He battled an infectious stoat who a friend of mine helped me name "Iugulare", and often he would be defeated by her, only to find the courage and strength to keep fighting and ultimately overcome his adversary.

Quad met a young doe named Mazey, and the two fell in love.
