In the Presence of a God
"Please, Sithrim?", a voice asked him nearby.
The young stag opened his eyes and looked to her. A fawn stared at him, and she asked again, "Please? You're the only one that can do it."
"What do you want me to do?", he replied to her.
"I want to see a tree turn into a giant mushroom!", the fawn replied.
Sithrim tilted his head, "Isn't that something the Twin Gods can do?", he asked.
The fawn tilted her head in reply, "Twin Gods? Who are the Twin Gods? You're the only deer god in the Endless Forest, Sithrim."
Sithrim didn't really understand this at first, but he sat up and looked at the nearest tree. Without even thinking, the tree burst into a giant mushroom.
The fawn's eyes grew, "Yay! You did it!", she exclaimed, and ran to the giant mushroom.
Sithrim didn't really understand what was going on. The Twin Gods aren't around, and he has their powers? This was odd....very odd...
"Hey, it's Sithrim!", he heard someone else exclaim. The god looked to see a stag approach, his eyes as big as the fawn's before. Sithrim cleared his throat, "Erm...what can I do for you?"
"Well, I've been waiting for the next Abiogenesis, but I just can't wait that long. Can you give me the Black As Night Pelt?", the stag questioned.
Sithrim hesitated for a moment. What would Michael or Auriea do in this situation? They don't normally give out spells like that out of the blue...or do they?
He took a deep breath, and without really concentrating, cast the spell on the stag. The mortal's fur went from brown to a sleek black. He was amazed, and bowing, he immediately ran off shouting, "Hey everyone! Look what the deer god gave me!"
Sithrim didn't really think about it, but he made a little mistake. Before he realized it, many more deer came running up to him. "Please Sithrim, we want the Black As Night Pelt too!", they begged.

On a particularly chilly day in the Endless Forest, something amazing happened. The Twin Gods added a new feature to the Forest - a great tree, shaped only by vines that coiled and wrapped around themselves. The tree was known as the Wirewood Tree, and it became a source for the gods to store and use some of their powers.
Around them, many of the deer gathered to watch the event unfold. Michael and Auriea were fine with the audience, but as soon as a good enough group were present, they made an announcement:
"This tree, unlike the various places we've provided in the Forest, is only meant to be used by us. We ask that you please do not touch this tree, because it can curse you. If you let us do what we need to with the tree, we promise that we will reward you all with a new place in the Endless Forest for you to play and use."
The group understood. They weren't the kind to mess with things the gods didn't want them to. Little by little, the deer broke from the crowd and went their own ways, and soon only a handful remained to watch the Twin Gods do their work.
About midday, Michael and Auriea stopped and looked at the remaining crowd. "We will retire for a few moments. Please make sure that no one touches the tree.", they asked, and soon they vanished before their eyes.
There was a moment of silence then. The deer watched the tree, their minds wandered a little. What was it used for? What would happen to them if they were cursed?
One fawn decided to test the tree. He approached the new structure in front of the crowd, who all at once scolded him and tried to call him back. The little one was too curious about the tree, and before they knew it, he put a hoof on one of the vines.
At first, nothing happened. He looked back at them, "See? The gods were just making it up!", he said. But then, little by little, the vines of the tree unraveled.

Well, I'm jealous of all the fawns that are able to keep spells. I just came back from a romp in the forest and I saw a fawn that was able to keep a set of antlers, and a fawn that was able to keep the peacock pelt and mask. I just also spotted a fawn that had a blue and yellow pelt with the real deer mask AND the buttlerfly antlers. I really want to know how to do that..
ANYWAYS, forget my ranting. Hope you are all having a wonderful day!!

I did two little things for Sithrim: the first is a haiku of a bunch of names I thought of him, the second is a longer poem written with Krym's admiration for his dad in mind. I was clearly in a heavily anaphora-filled mood tonight.
A Litany of Titles
He of lover’s eyes;
He of the sun-streak dreadlocks;
He of blue nightfall.
A Son’s Admiration
For the grand, heart-shaped antlers,
For each tip sharp as defending swords;
For his daredevil smile,
For the hearts it leaves shattered behind it;
For the hot thunderstorm of his angry roar,
For the warm breeze of his tender breath;
For the brave ship-prow of his chest,
For the might thrust of his shoulders as he walks;
For the strength of his entwining neck,
For the solid rocks of his warm sides;
For his passion, which allows him to fight
For those things that glow like candles in his heart
Cannot be lost or made to fade;
Cannot be overstated.
February 11, 2010 - 10:07pm — Rya
Rya was napping in one of her favorite places, the top of a hill within a delightful ring of tasty mushrooms.
She slept so soundly that she never noticed the mischievous little pixies that danced in the ring. Oh the little creatures were devious and frolicked around her while she slept do soundly. They pranced and laughed weaving their spells around her all through the night. then, just as quickly as they had come, the little pixies disappeared into the forest again to dance and play in other rings.
As the rays of the dappled sunlight struck Rya she awoke and stretched as she always did, yawning long and widely. She stretched her front legs out, eyes squeezed shut as she yawned, then stretched her back legs. As the last of the blurry sleep left her eyes she squeaked in surprise! the mushrooms and grass around her were HUGE! She'd shrunk in her sleep!
Rya called out, trying to use her deep moo to signal for help with this catastrophe. All that left her neck was a wee squeak. Rya began running in circles in a panic. She noticed her strides were much longer than she remembered and as she looked at herself she realized what had happened. Sometime in the night, she had been changed into a rabbit!
Filled with a new power she didn't quite remember having before, she began getting used to the much different perspective. This would take a lot to get used to. She got used to the odd strides she now had with her too-long back legs and quickly began running around in circles and waltzing in eight shapes. This may just be alright. Hopefully it wasn't permanent, but even if it was, maybe Rya could get used to this.
Rya ran around the forest, finding other deer and greeting them. A few of the deer she met up with were very regal and polite, letting her run around and play with them. Others would look so shocked. then they would snicker at her for being turned into a rabbit. She could understand it, it -was- a very odd situation.

Softly, softly...She creeps between the trees, avoiding the slivers of moonlight that shine through...Invisible, but her eyes...
...One cannot unsee those eyes...

Shy deer are awful. Oh, sure, they think they're so vulnerable or whatever, but really...all they are is mean. Take today, for example...
I was playing with Virgil, trying to get my spells in order. And the deer wakes up. and she just starts backing away like I've done something wrong. AGAIN. This is the third time this week! What, do I smell bad? Did someone go around saying I'm a jerk?! WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME, HUH?
And I do the nice thing, I really try. Really. I try to approach her slowly, and I try to keep my distance. All the nice things you're supposed to do for shy deer despite the fact that it's not you who has the problem with them, you know? I didn't mind -- I wanted to make a new friend. I don't really feel like I have enough friends. Virgil's a great pal, and all, but he and Vala and my parents are all there is in my life, you know? And that won't do -- I wanna be friends with everyone! Nothing less will do, ha-ha!
...where was I? Oh, yeah. And after a while, I started getting frustrated, so I decided to wait a ways off until she and Virgil were done. I could take a hint, see where I wasn't wanted, all that. If it made them happy, I...well, OK, I pretended I was happy with that, but I just started getting more and more frustrated. I hadn't done anything wrong, and I was the one being left out in the cold. I decided that I wasn't going to take no for an answer -- she was going to get over her fear of me, whether she was ready to or not! ...Or something like that. I wasn't really thinking, I was just sort of feeling whatever came my way. And it was just really angry and frustrated -- I wanted to be her friend, that was all! Why couldn't she accept that!? Anyway, so I started going right up to her,to get her to meet me face-to-face. And, to my shock, she started running. I started pounding after her too, and I think Virgil started running after me.
