Quad - from stag to guardian

It all began when I was first introduced to him. He didn't have a name, I didn't even know what he should look like. But he gave me a smile and said, "Whatever you'd like, I'd be happy with."

I always called myself "QuadRaptor". It came from an old shooter game where a power-up was called the "Quad Damage", and my favorite dinosaur at the time was the velociraptor, so the two were combined. I've never had a more suitable nickname, so I called him "Quad" as well. If it really had a hidden meaning, I will never know.

I wanted him to wear the real deer mask and the gazelle antlers so he'd look more like a goat, which at the time was my favorite animal. He found the beluga pelt, and I fell in love with the look, and he agreed. I always thought it made him look like he was smiling with big, puffy white cheeks.

He first started out as a mischief maker, he loved smelling other deer's butts and getting them to react. But then we compromised that it was getting old and we'd rather do something else. Then he decided to be more silly, dancing and laughing every day, hanging out with anyone he could find. Before I got rooted too deeply into the community...

I came up with a story for him, and soon after I invented a species of winged deer called "Talux". Quad was the "Grand Talux", and had four wings to match his name. He was a healer and a fighter for all that was good. He battled an infectious stoat who a friend of mine helped me name "Iugulare", and often he would be defeated by her, only to find the courage and strength to keep fighting and ultimately overcome his adversary.

Quad met a young doe named Mazey, and the two fell in love.

:. [ PROPHET : today, I met an angel ] .:

So unbelievably cliche to say it
But I felt it, surely felt it
She had long hair like my friends used to have
Her eyes were a brilliant blue, crystalline
She was the epitome of female
And her name called to the moon

But she hid in the birches
And though she bowed she still hid
Golden and tumbling, as if from the nest
Unable to fly
I saw her leg was hindered

She was an angel
Perhaps not in reality
But in my mind, for a little while
She was an angel

Feathercrest Revisited: Chapter I

“Hell has three gates: lust, anger, and greed”

I never thought I would have to tell a story such as this. And truth be told, I don’t want to. It is painful to recollect such a fateful memory, but, at the same time, such memory we can learn from, like all great mistakes in history. I speak of course, of my older brother Feathercrest. You may now know of him as “The Raven King”, although, such a title is merely self-bestowed. You may at times feel a slight chill when the forest turns through its misty cycle. You may even have to look twice, as you see a mass of shadows fleeting through the trees. These are his tricks, his tools of deception. And it is these very tools that my brother, Feathercrest was lured by. Another young soul, Gevaar holds a similar fate. It was she that lured my brother to me. My murderer.
Friends, you may take this story to heart, you may tell it to the younger generations. You can even disregard it. But there is a lesson within this all. And I hope that you embrace it, for there are wolves within this forest.

Bombshell (Poem)

Bombs have been dropped
On the ones I love dearest
My depression and anger
Blew away my closest friends
Seeing the aftermath of the fallout
Hoping I could take it all away
Endlessly regretting the devastation I cause
Longing for forgiveness I seek and
Living in deep shame for my actions

The Wooden Box (Vanitas-based story)

For Michael and Auriea

While walking down the street, I saw that my neighbors were having a yard sale. I looked at the individual items and found a little wooden box with VANITAS written on it. Opening the box, I found two twigs and an acorn sitting within. "Oh that box is very special.", my neighbor said, "It has the power to inspire and create."

"Interesting...", I said, and then asked, "How much are you asking for it?"

"For you, only $1.99.", she replied. I had two dollars in my wallet...exactly two dollars, and I gave it to her. "Don't worry about the change.", I said, and taking the wooden box, I walked on the sidewalk to my house.

I went in, greeted my dogs, and let them outside. Holding the box, I opened it again, but was surprised that the twigs and acorn were gone...well, replaced, by a bird's skull, key, and a ladybug. The ladybug flew out of the box happily. I was surprised to see it, actually, since ladybugs are not common where I live. Then I picked up the skull and studied it. I had no idea what kind of bird it was from. Lastly, I took the key out, inspecting it as well - it was worn, silver, and had a "V" engraved in it.

"I wonder...", I thought to myself. Letting the dogs back in, I pulled down the step ladder to my attic and climbed up, pulling down an old lock box that I had found a long time ago. I sat the box on a table and tried the key. It fit, and turning the key, the box unlocked. I had been waiting a long time to open this box, and as I did, I found bones inside. I had no idea what the box was there for, what it's purpose was, but instinctively, I took the bird skull and placed it inside, closing it.

I returned to the little wooden VANITAS box, only to find it was closed too. Sliding it open, I found two strange-looking eggs as well as another twig like before. I considered the twig being there, and then decided that the eggs may need to be put into a nest.

[ branches ]

They stayed together that night. Above the forest's branches there hung the silken sky, an upturned ocean, invisible light bouncing off of the waves and creating the starshine that intrigued so many. Below the earth, things scurried, unseen, unknown, harmless little insects hiding from the snow. It was a perfect world, for a little while. A perfect world for them.

"I don't know why we're here."

Two pairs of eyes flickered and looked at the third pair, chocolate and blue into hazy amber.

"I thought we'd be punished to be honest."

Murmers of agreement.

"Ah well, maybe Hell's just one big party eh? That's what I told meself. An' like maybe this is Heaven or somethin'. Or maybe Hell's so peaceful you get bored, like this."

Well, maybe.
