Rut Discussion 2017 [Date's set!]

Coming up to that time of year again!

To open this year's discussion: Time.
In previous years we always held a vote over how long the event should last, and it's usually been agreed to last two weeks. However from experience, we see that by the middle of the second week activity tends to sizzle out while one week alone just doesn't feel long enough.
As a result, I propose bypassing the vote this time in favour of establishing an 11 day event.
Or would you guys prefer we vote on it - as is tradition? We'd like to hear your thoughts!

There will still be a vote as to when the event takes place.

11 days it is then! Thank you for all your input everyone. Smiling If you feel there are still concerns however, please bring them up! That's what the Discussion blog is for.

Here's the vote as to when the rut will take place!
Results.

Thank you!

Vote's in! The Rut will take place 29th Sept - 9th Oct. Thank you all for participating.

If there's anything more anyone would like to discuss, please feel free to bring it up! Smiling

I'm for the week and a bit

I'm for the week and a bit length, because yeah it just seems to die out by the second week. The first few days are great, but then there's nothing.

Last years actual activity seemed to be even less? I swear it felt like we had a whole bunch of activity for about 3 or so days and then the rest of it was really quiet. I don't know if it was because people were busy, or people took it to rping. It was kinda sad to see it die super quickly.

*rises from the dead* Did someone say "the Rut"?
I'd say if we want to go with 11 days, it would be handy to start on Friday/Saturday to squeeze two weekends in? Although I am aware the event traditionally starts on Monday...

I am okay with 11 days too.

I am okay with 11 days too.
I also agree the event should start in a way where two weekends would be in it.

I am just hoping there will be more action for everyone this year. My experience from two years ago wasnt too great. The popular stags got every doe.

Hey, dumb question here, from old lady out of the loop - is the rut just what it sounds like? Stags showing off for does and then getting freaky?
WayfarerHart's picture

fush: lol no. Consider it

fush: lol no. Consider it more like a game, or those re-enactment shows where a bunch of people act out historical battles but at the end of the day they all go have drinks together.
Here's the template. c:

The rut is a bit of a game,

The rut is a bit of a game, actually. It's similar, but females can fight too. We have competitors, challengers, and judges. Competitors are like the veteran fighters, the top notch. Competitors antagonize them, keep them on theirs toes (hooves?). Judges form a herd with the challenger or competitor they feel won in their eyes, be it the strongest, smartest, fairest fighter, etc. Yes, some do find mates during this and fawns can come from it, but that is up for each person to decide.

I participated a few times. Friends came of it, for brief times, good roleplay for another. But no mates or babins.

gonna casually mention it

gonna casually mention it might be better to do it either before the 22nd or after, considering the new GW2 expac that is releasing on the 22nd and tons of TEFers are gonna get swept up in it. <: /waddles

It just says I already voted but cannot return to see the results as the voting goes.
Also, how long will the vote last?

Not that it should affect

Not that it should affect anyone who doesn't play GW2, but as a large portion of TEF players do play, and the newest expansion pack is to be released September 22, I think it'd be wise to host it either the week before it, or a little further into October. BUT that's just my two cents, I mean it is what it is and we can all make time anyway I'm sure, it just may suffer for activity if it's set the same date of the release.

Aww yeah, thank you for the result link!

@Panda
If you dont mind me asking, I am simply curious but... how would you know that a large portion of TEF members play GW2? Is this just an assumption or was there a poll or...? Just curious.
Because if this is true, then the suggested dates would indeed need to be reworked.

Convel: We have a Discord

Convel: We have a Discord server dedicated to TEF players playing GW2, even have our own Guild there! There are def a lot of us there heh.
It is difficult working around that though... I am willing to work out a more custom date if people want to discuss it. Would it be worth discarding this vote and trying to work the rut event date to end before the 22nd? Or should we continue to respect the vote as it is?
The former option would put the rut on from the 8th to the 18th though, that's not very long at all.
Discuss from all sides please!

idk what Guild Wars is but I'm not fussed if we move the dates around.
Convel's picture

I think instead of moving the

I think instead of moving the date before the 22nd, maybe move the Rut to October?
Making the Rut come too soon and suddenly would not be good either. People do need to prepare, make time for the event.
I run like a deer, jump like a deer and think like a deer.

October would run into the

October would run into the BZD events though, that's the only issue there.

Oh. You are right. Hmm... How

Oh. You are right.
Hmm... How about we just pick the last date option? It is after the release, yes, but it will be a week after the release. Would it still be a big problem?
I run like a deer, jump like a deer and think like a deer.

The last option is the most

The last option is the most popular option so that will probably be it. I'm ok with any date after the 14th so I'm not bothered as long as it doesn't run into BZD. I can't imagine Velocity participating in the rut...he would win for sure, lol!

I don't play GW, but I have

I don't play GW, but I have been told that the update will be pretty big, and will have things in it that the game has never had before. WHICH, in my opinion likely means that a lot of people will be playing that game for at least several days after the update drops. I feel like its the type of game that people get lost in pretty easily, since one of my friends gets so invested that they don't respond for hours lmao.

So i think we need to direct a question towards GW players. Do you feel like, by the 29th of September, the hype from that update will be out of your're system, and you will be ready for the rut?

I'm personally totally fine with the rut being pushed for before the GW update. And by the looks of things, players are already preparing for the rut now, with new characters appearing.
We also don't want the rut to run into Halloween, not only because of the event itself, but there always seems to be an influx of players logging in who don't even use the community. They just like the event and the change it brings to the forest. And, anyone who suffers from low fps will def appreciate those two events NOT clashing lmao.
