Non-TEF but important: Japan.

Kaoori's picture
I'm sure many, if not all of you know, Japan was struck by a horrible 8.9 earthquake today (yesterday for some of you). It's going to be some time before they will fully recover.

If you can take a moment to help this wonderful country, please do so.
In the U.S., you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the international relief fund for Japan. Elsewhere or if you want to donate another way, try the International Red Cross site at IRFC.ORG.

You can also text JAPAN to 50555 to make a $10 donation to the relief fund at GlobalGiving.org or visit their site at http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/japan-earthquake-tsunami-relief/

If anyone else knows of any charities, I'd be glad to post them here.

And even if you can't donate, you can always help with a thought or a prayer.

This country and its people are dear to my heart. Thanks for taking the time to read.

edit: found some more charities. (found them on DeviantArt. They seem legit but please, if anyone has any info on them let me know. )

I wanted to mention something

I wanted to mention something that happened during my meditation last night:

I did a three-part meditation using three different tools - my mala (prayer beads), my baoding chime balls, and the labyrinth stone my mom gave me. I also have a Buddha that holds a tealight, which I light during the meditation. I sit in darkness and watch the flame while I meditate.

I prayed for everyone affected by the earthquake in Japan, as well as all natural disasters while using the mala. Then when I switched to the baoding balls, I began to speak, "This is for everyone who has died--", and meant to continue with the words "from the earthquake" or "from natural disasters", but I was cut off by a bizarre event - my candle flickered violently, which it never does unless I breathe on it, and also I felt my body surge and react strangely.

I am a fan of Ghost Adventures, and after seeing that this kind of an event may mean that a ghost or a spirit is present, I took it very seriously that someone may have been thanking me or had been there with me at that moment. I turned and petted Brandy as soon as it happened since dogs are supposedly able to detect ghosts when they appear, but she didn't really respond (she was asleep on my bed).

Anyway, I continued the meditation and didn't have any other reactions, but I thought it was very strange that it happened immediately after I said "This is for everyone who has died". I try not to be very superstitious but I do believe in ghosts. I never felt in any danger or that the energy was negative in any way - in fact, I felt a little startled but strangely comforted when it happened. Who knows?

Anyway, just wanted to share that with you.

It's been hard to be here where it is so peaceful when I want to be there helping.

Southern Japan, specifically Kumamoto is fine (according to several friends living there) but my town of Date in southern Hokkaido has been shaken up by a level 3 earthquake off the coast and those living near the sea have been evacuated to shelter. Apparently the damage isn't too bad and most of the friends i've emailed have responded saying everything's alright.

I'm very worried and waiting to hear back from dear Mrs. Fukushi, who lives very near the sea. She isn't very good about checking her email so it may be a while before I hear how she is.

My heart is with all the people in the Sendai area.

I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Bumping this as a reminder

Bumping this as a reminder that there are still aftershocks and tsunami danger continuing.

If anyone out there is praying I would like to ask if you would include my friend Mayu in your thoughts. Her friend's sister is in the area at risk from the nuclear radiation. My friend Marii has been sent to Hokkaido by her parents for safety, but they are still in Tokyo.

I've just heard back from Mrs. Fukushi, as I suspected, she was evacuated but has now returned home. Thank goodness for good news.

3.11 there was a large earthquake in my country of Japan.
From 3.11 two weeks have passed, but even now there are 'aftershocks' and it's very frightening.

Fukushima, Ibaraki, Miyagi, Iwate.... Many places were damaged by earthquakes and tsunami. It's difficult to help the victims of such great destruction by Japan's power alone. I would like to thank everyone for kindly lending us their strength.

Nature is very great, gentle and beautiful... and very frightening. I am praying for everyone's health and happiness from my heart."

That is so heartbreaking,

That is so heartbreaking, Renji-san. But Eyestrain is right. Take care of yourself and then do what you can for others only if you feel up to the challenge. Don't destroy your own health for others. They'll be alright; your people are strong. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and many of us are donating money and doing little things to assist you and your fellow Japanese. Be strong, you are not alone. <3

Eyestrain; you're a real sweetheart for doing all of this; the fund-raising, the translating... Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. We all appreciate this, and admire you for it. So, once again, thank you. <3

I've said from the beginning... if there's any country that can, It's Japan.
This has been the way of life for the islands since the beginning. What drew me to its culture is the acceptance of death as part of the cycle of life and the understanding of the fragility of the physical world, how quickly things disappear in fire or flood or wind or earthquake, how beautiful the brief flash of life is when it will soon be gone.

It is the greenest place I have ever seen. The volcanic eruptions make the soil rich. The closeness to the sea makes the clouds more colossal than any I ever imagined.
