Warnings and Disclaimers

I decided I really didn't like the back-end of that journal code :I So here we are

Note: Endriaga can generally be assumed to be resting with Phaios or hanging around in a tree nearby [but likely will not be logged in]. Not a deer as she was before, but instead a miniature dragon.

How many years has it been?

Has spent the last few months with little in the way of drama. Content to be bored most of the time, although she does at times feel quite lonely. As such, she has been happily reconnecting with Illrose and Carmine when she comes across them. In particular, surprised and incredibly grateful when first Illrose and then Carmine sought her out in the deep fog of October and stayed with her for a number of days until it passed; the mist bound her senses uncomfortably and left her on edge and feeling blind, but having a steady presence greatly eased that stress.

A little more melancholy now that the snow has arrived, often lost in thought. Not really a fan of the cold. Spending a little more time around Eraline's grave when she's on her own.

"Phaios? Phaios!" Twigs snap

"Phaios? Phaios!"

Twigs snap and the wind rushes by as the gray doe runs to the slumped figure. Eyes brimmed wide with shock, she examines the fallen body. Leaning down carefully, she touches her head to the others.

Cold.

There is no warmth, no blood pulsing through her veins. No heart beating steadily, no constant drumming to tell the gray doe that she is still here.

She isn`t sleeping.

The choking pain that engulfs the gray doe doesn`t help her as she collapses next to Phaios` still body. Her throat swells with grief, producing a discomfort that overrides all self control. Soon, all Oria can do is bury her head into the red fur of her fallen mother, coating it with salty tears.

Perhaps the tangy salt of her grief would rouse the other. Yet it does not, Oria realizes.
She must have gone some time ago.

For once, the doe does not ponder the reason of her death. In her rather short life, she has experienced much of it. Though this is different. Phaios was different. She was special.

And now she was gone.

Yet again, the reasoning of death is not pondered. Oria does not wonder how she will tell the others. After all, there aren`t many to tell. Many of her other friends are gone as well.

The sobbing ceases after a long while, leaving the gray doe to sniffle quietly as she lays her head on the unmoving flanks of the other. There will be time to get up, to get moving again. Right now, though, is the time for peace. The gray doe decides that she will spend the night with the body of the doe who raised her for nearly all her life.

As she sits there, Oria realizes that she never really knew her mother. Not really. Sure, the doe had stuck by her family thick and thin. Yet she had never really talked much about her own life- her life outside of her family.

She must have suffered more than all of them, the doe realizes. Watching as her family was torn apart- and who knows what else she`s seen.

I didn`t even get to say goodbye.

The thought alone as enough to bring tears to Oria`s eyes. But no- she swallows them down. She ignores the listlessness that has begun to pull at her. A strange acceptance fills her, a strange pride.

Phaios did not deserve to be forgotten. She did not die to cease living on in the minds of those who loved her.

Oria half walks, half-stumbles away. Pawing through the bushes with all but blind eyes, she finally comes what she is looking for. A swath of small, bright blue flowers. Yes. They are perfect.

The doe runs back, kneeling gently beside the still Phaios. Humming an unknown, yet soothing tune, she tenderly places the flowers in a way as to create a wreath of sorts around the fallen doe`s head. Oria smiles. It is a broken smile, yet a smile all the same.

The doe lifts her head. She will come back here one more time, perhaps. But for now, her work here is done.

Oria is a bit surprised. She thought that Phaios` death would crush her, would flatten her into the ground like a pathetic grain of dust. Instead, it has given her strength.

Looking down, she whispers just a few soft words.

"Phaios."

You were always the best of us. Thank you.

Goodbye, Mother."

And with that, the doe treads softly away to places unknown.

Forget Me Not.

The white doe approached the cold body slowly. No life was left. Her body shook and she called out to her, digging at the back and pushing on her"Wake up mother please...s..stop joking" she said as tears began to fill her eyes and boil over. She was told that she was gone. Aria cold not..would not believe it and her feet buckled beneath her and she collapsed near her tree. Her head rested on the doe's hindquarters as she sobbed softly. "I love you mother..I..I'm sorry that at the end we did not spend much time..together...I..I'm sorry" she said nuzzling her. "I love you so much and..I hope I see you again..someday..somehow"she said then curled up sobbing until she fell asleep.

Dinah examines her friend's

Dinah examines her friend's limp body with the one good eye she has, and notes the non-life threatening wounds.

No... no, this isn't right...

She kneels beside Phai', the other faces expressing what has already transpired, Dinah dismissing it, and continues her examination ... not believing this is happening.

Another dream, must be another dream.

She would gently pull at and maneuver Phaio's corpse with her front leg to further examine. It takes her quite some time to find regurgitation and put together all that has happened.

Not like this. Oh god. Oh..

The white doe collapses next to her friend, and all the others there with her. Whatever little strength left, after weeks of harassment, fights, betrayal - vanished. Her limbs go numb. Her heart sinks into her stomach.

What could bring her friend to such a desperate end? The doe was admired for her inner strength and grace. What pushed her so hard? Was it her own fault? So many questions lingered in her mind, and will remain forever, undoubtedly.

But, I tried. I tried - I tried.

Deep down she knew this was coming in some way or another, only adding more guilt to her conscience for not trying HARDER. Or for trying too hard ... no longer sure of herself at this point. For losing focus. The shiner on her eye, busted lip, and overall shit shape she got herself into - all evidence to prove how horribly she failed. AGAIN.

"It'll never be as beautiful, Phaios." She manages to get out over heavy sobbing into the brown doe's fur. Referring to the tree's view, and the forest as a whole. She lifts her head to take it all in, her vision distorted. In more ways than one.

It was the truth.

Phaios was the embodiment of an angel, the only true angel Dinah ever had the pleasure of knowing and calling a close friend. And because of her own stubborn opinions, never fully learned just how beautifully good, and forgiving, Phaios' way of life was. She had hopes of one day fully comprehending.

That hope would die with Phaios.

Just eternal numbness would remain.

Just empty broken shell.

And perhaps a calm before the storm.

She strips her home's poppies from her antlers and sets them next to the doe, "From Idelle, and Gust'." She'll whisper before pressing her sobbing, broken face back into her deceased friend's fur.

Gonna miss her. Uaaarrgh!

The white fawn followed her

The white fawn followed her mother up to where she had left her grandmother last. Gia moved closer, surprised to see her grandmother still ‘sleeping’ & with still a rather big crowd around her. She weaved between the others & cuddled up beside the larger doe.

“Grandma feels cold” the fawn whispered as she nestled in closer & closed her eyes, as if that would help in Phaios getting warmer.

“Need keep warm” she whispered again, moving up closer & trying to wrap her small frame around one of her grandmother’s front legs.

The fawn closed her eyes tight again as she ruffled her butterfly feathers. Gia was too young & naïve to think or believe anything else other than the fact her grandmother was sleeping. She kept her eyes closed though flicked her ears backwards when her mother spoke, wanting to make sure to catch everything that was said & with that the white fawn rubbed her cheek gently against Phaios’ leg that she was curled around as she whispered
“Love you grandma”.

She didn’t understand why her grandmother wouldn’t move, why she was cold, why she seemed to be the most popular today. She didn’t understand why everyone seemed sad but she didn’t care. Right now all the fawn cared about was trying to keep her grandmother warm & with that, the little female relaxed her tight posture around her grandmothers leg & drifted off to sleep as well.

They didn't get to spend much time together but Gia loved the times they did ^_^
Sad to see Phaios go & always thought she was an awesome char!

Authieu, who had been sitting

Authieu, who had been sitting near the tree for some time now, blinked his eyes to clear his vision once again. He felt the same as his mother, horrible in that he hadn't spoken to his grandmother lately, and now he never would. His ears flicked back as he finally remembered something he had been working on before he came back out into the open to find more materials. A collection of trinkets, things his family might have found useful somehow.

Quietly, so as not to disturb the others, Authieu stood up and turned away, trotting and eventually running with light steps to the grove where he's made his home.

The buck nosed around the area, looking for the one special thing that would put his mind at ease. Finally, he pulled the gift from a niche where he had hidden it along with the rest. The buck had wanted to wait until all of them were finished to give them, but this was an exception. Gingerly picking up Phaios's presents in his mouth, Authieu ran back to where she lie with Endriaga.

He slowed his pace once he came up to the hill, making his steps soft as he climbed it. At the top, Authieu breathed a deep breath, stepping forward with the parting gifts. Carefully the young buck placed the larger gift oh Phaios's head, and a miniature version of the gift on the head of Endriaga.

"Maybe they'll be there wherever you're going, Gramma. I hope they look alright. Hope you like them."

"I'll miss you, Gramma."

Authieu stepped back, leaving on each their crowns a silver circlet with a small gem in the center. For Phaios, a piece of chrysoprase. For Endriaga, an onyx.

When the bodies vanished Aria

When the bodies vanished Aria looked at one of the six candles. She nudged it softly and prayed that her mother would be ok with her taking one. Of anything it was all she could take that would remind her of this. Remind her of her. She never got to know the other but still...the presence was more than enough to remind her. She took it gently and planned to make something to hold it. "Goodbye...mother"she said then nudged her fawn gently to move back and sit with Zash who had come up close behind. She needed the space. She needed to think..to grieve.

Zash stared down at the candles, thinking. He had nothing to give, but he could remember her somehow. Honor her memory somehow. He just had to think of it.
"I've known of you since...since I met your daughter, you know." he stated quietly, "But I never got up the nerve to speak to you until a bit ago...I wish..." he trailed off for a few moments, shaking his head as if to clear the thought away, "I understand how Time is short, and how no one should be taken for granted....I'll cherish our only conversation. I'll never forget your bravery or wisdom, Phaios. I don't know what you are, truly, but I respect any decision you make...you've got your reasons. I trust that..." he trailed off again, a weak smile crossing his face, "You'd probably call me foolish, for that, wouldn't you?" Silence followed his words as his smile faded just as their bodies had earlier. "You won't be forgotten," he whispered, reaching down to snap up a candle in his mouth. He still didn't know what he was going to do, but he'd do something with it. He sent a silent promise that he would take care of Endriaga's candle before bowing to the spot and taking his leave.

Beneath his silent exterior

Beneath his silent exterior was inner turmoil that ate away at his conscience, a simple thought that plagued his mind as he sat near the lifeless doe’s body. Could he have prevented it? Even in death the bull felt an overwhelming need to protect her from harm. A frown tugged at the corners of the beast’s black lips as he tried to desperately look away from the pitiful sight. Death was something he was all too familiar with, yet it wasn’t something he could ever get used to. In a way, he felt as though he’d failed her. “I should have been there for you.” He regretted not spending more time with Phaios - and if he had, then perhaps he could have been there to prevent her death.

I’m sorry.

Isobel noticed the doe laying

Isobel noticed the doe laying on the hill. She looked like she was sleeping deeply, as she did quiet often. She poked her. Then she noticed.. she wasn't breathing. Like her mother wasn't. She remembered what Phaios had told her- that Jetta couldn't be fixed. She knew deep down Phaios wouldn't be fixed either. Angry, she shoved her. "Get up. Get UP!"

In anger she beat at the tree where the doe lay. She dug at the ground, screaming, throwing soil everywhere. Then she flopped next to Phaios with a moan.

"Iso.. Iso is sorry for stomping on deer. I'm sorry.. I'm sorry Phaios..come back..come back..!"

She lay there for a time, tears streaming down her muzzle. Suddenly she got up and left for a bit, returning with a necklace. Attached to it was one of her baby teeth. She had planned to give it to Phaios with the rest of her siblings. Each was to get one, Phaios an honorary member. Now.. maybe it would just help her get where she was going. Isobel tried to tug it on to her head, but her mask kept getting into the way. Desperate, she removed the mask, managing to get the necklace across the doe's muzzle.
Satisfied enough, she took the mask, heading to her tree to stash it safely. She looked back once, then trotted off.

(I'll have a reply for Kao tonight. Or later. Brain is splat.)
---
The little doe stood quietly by her friend. Her daughter lay not far away, somber. She had met her when Kari was born. "Little Mother", Phai had called her.. she'd adored that nickname.

Now though, it made her heart ache. Quietly, she lay the small branch of cherry blossoms beside the doe and her small companion, closing her eyes.

"I won't pretend to know why or understand. I just hope wherever you are, you're at peace now. You'll be missed greatly here.. the forest has lost another great one.

..if you see Hoshi, say hello to her. I bet she'd love that. We'll meet again, someday.."

With that, she took a step back and joined her mate and daughter.

Rossamund stood next to his still mother. He saw how others had placed gifts around her, and regretted that he hadn't brought anything. Determined to find the best gift he could, the fawn walked slowly around, scouring the ground for a suitable gift. Finally, he found something hidden in the tall grasses. It was a iridecent magpie feather, dark and glossy. It was perfect. Tucking the feather into her fur, Rossamund curled up next to Phaios, burying himself in her sweet smelling fur. "I love you mum... please don't go."
