Subnautica's got me real good guys. I've been trapped playing it obsessively for days now rip. It's just so much fun... I'm not even doing the story lol I just want to build my perfect base and explore.
There's an option on my Steam profile where friends can request to watch me play. So if anyone's interested, my steam is
this. Don't need to ask beforehand, just go there and request to watch and I'll respond as long as I'm available. Sometimes I'm afk as I look after my aging grandparent a lot these days.
Taking a break from TEF for a bit.

They should team up with
They should team up with Chime and motherly the whole forestI find this interesting to
None of my other characters have been around as long as her, but I think those born/raised in TEF - and who have seen death - totally have that mindset of 'death isn't always permanent'? Its always situational, and a lot of my characters understand that if they've had a few funerals under their belts?
/rambles
On my phone, so sorry if this
For me personally, and my characters, death and resurrection have gotten to the point where it's not surprising to them. However, loss is still something they don't like. Partly because, it's a loss no matter how short, but also because they (and I) know there's always a chance one will not come back. It's a small chance, but it's a chance. There is such a thing as too much optimism and expectation.
And they would teach young as such. They would tell them that while death is usually permanent, the forest has a way of bending reality. But that doesn't guarantee that soneone who has died will come back. "Chance and fate operate on whim," as Lacie would put it.
The whole death +
ALTHOUGH with the rest of my TEF characters 99.9% of them haven't actually experienced the whole death + repeated ressurection thing, Jehoel had it briefly with Rikkonel (and was actually kind of irritated that he was brought back, TL:DR: it messes with fate. Y'all shouldnt be doin that. BUT THAT'S his opinion and not mine asdfasd)
there was one character who was heavily involved with mine ages ago but I cant remember if those were actually deaths or not, or just dissappearances. I'm pretty sure if my "oldies" experienced a death in TEF, and then said character came back they'd have a heart attack.I think, for me, things have
Fun to think about. Most of
You know, I never really
My character Black Knife is from the human world, and they believe in permanent death and living spirits. My other character, Fooka, is also from the human world but does not visibly mourn death. She's sentient but often chooses not to show it, so she has a passively feral way of expressing concern for those she likes.
Both of these OC's are new to the forest, though. Maybe they'll be introduced to new life and death experiences!
Draak: LMAO. Well we'll have

Reading the responses to this discussion has been a thought provoking joy and I'm really enjoying this!
Clare: I adore how you handle Levi's emotions over the matter. It makes absolute sense and seems like a really great way of handling it. Thanks for sharing it!
Mjrn: I like that you and your characters acknowledge a loss, if even for a short time. I suppose when death is involved it would be more notable than an unpredictable absence. Thanks for sharing!
Draak: What an awesome dynamic between the two! I guess Red will be learning similar soon too. Just the other day he thought he said goodbye but he's yet to see Ross back again... I have a feeling he's said goodbye to Ross once before too but my memory is hazy lol. But Christians way of handling it is completely understandable, and maybe slightly comedic hehe.
Watching Jehoel's reaction to the whole Rikk thing has been incredibly fascinating. I enjoyed watching your study on his character in regards to it. Thanks for posting.
ratt: That last bit of your comment made me laugh haha. <3 I like how you handle Rip's feelings on this. It fits him very well, I think. Cheers for sharing!
kiwara: Lmao Zash though. I suppose that can add another perspective: Why take revenge via murder? Wouldn't torture be a far better method of getting one's own back, when the deceased just keep coming back? I'm not sure if that's how Zash comes to think that way but it made me think that haha. Thanks for posting. <3
Jiaruqa: Here's hoping! That'd be an interesting revision on your characters for sure. I hope this discussion has been thought provoking.
I like to think all of my characters have an instinctive fear of death. Especially Red and Rhona. Though in Starless' case he's much more afraid of the hurting part. I don't think he has much concept of death just yet... He is a reincarnation, though. His former life's memories are locked in there but the most they do is give him stronger emotions towards some things than others. He'll never really have them be unlocked though, since this life is different.
When I brought Red back, I considered it a really exceptional thing, since I never wanted to kill him in the first place. Only doing so to get out of a bad position. Though now that he's back, I did so by playing an alternate timeline of his. But now it's coming up to the stage where the timelines will be colliding again soon and I have some big plans for that.
Eliah just quietly resents resurrection lol. ):
How about when you guys resurrect your characters though? Do you have any conditions or standards? Does it have any big dramatic effect on their lives?
By my own standards, if magic is ever involved, I don't like to use it without consequence. Since I like to consider death as a really big game-changing deal, if I have to resurrect my character it'd be at the expense of an important aspect of theirs...
(Sorry if this post seems a little clusterfucked lol my mind is a bit chaotic atm)
Absences make them more
Regarding your question, my basic outline is "Don't kill any of them" lmao. If one of my characters died, I'd have to be 100% sure I'm ready to part with them because I want their death to actually be permanent. However, if I were to resurrect them, I keep pretty much everything intact; their memories, their emotions, etc. Because I'm cheap and I don't like starting something from scratch if I've been building them up for a long while.
The only real exception to any of this is Lacie. I play her/portray her in multiple worlds, but they're all linked; if she's alive in one, she's dead in all the others. So basically, yes, I'm playing her in Pokemon, but that means she's dead here. I guess it's super confusing for anyone but me (She's only still alive here because she's such a huge part of me and I refuse to let her die just yet...because I'd essentially be killing myself lmao.). For her it's "die in one world, wake up in another." And she's been doing this for a long time.
I'm losing my train of thought, but that's pretty much it.
I... really doubt I'd
Even still, resurrection would come at a high cost. Which gives me some interesting ideas for a plot I've had in mind for years, so maybe I'll explore that sometime soon.
e; Mjrn ninja'd me and summed up my thoughts as well, yeah. I would prefer any major character deaths on my end to be permanent, if they happen.
For me personally I don't
So i think just because your friend might come back, doesn't mean you fear for how much it hurt for them to die, the fact that they just might not come back, orrrr even the effect it might have on their mentality?
Indigo is my best example because he dies every two seconds and everyone he loves has pretty much died at some point (not rly but close enough). HEEEE.. doesn't care when they die at this point. He's insensitive to other people when their loved ones die because he 'knows' they'll come back but others dying so much sort of doesn't leave him much in the way of being distraught even if they don't. Still, watching a friend be torn apart is a hell of a painful thing and desperation that comes along with it is a killer. He's desensitized to death, but can't easily take his loves hurting and brutally dying. IIIII think that goes for all my characters really- the last part. Not the sociopathic first bit sigh
Indi's pretty much the only one of mine who dies and returns regularly (because of his phoenix business) and that's moreso just because I like to 'realistically' dish his damage out. He's small, he can only take so much and he gets into plenty 203980239 hour long fights with people much larger than him. I want to be able to let him go down then bring him back.
Because anyone can choose to have their character not take enough damage to die in the first place. AAAND I can choose to have my character come back if they do die.
Lats'vel died once too, but his job outside of the forest tethers him to life and he's not.. all that easy to take down so it's typically not something that happens. I more felt it was more realistic for him to die than to ever have given up on fighting in that whole massacre situation.
Icarus/akos only returned because I didn't want to kill him in the first place- essentially I don't find it all that fun to have all of my characters capable of returning but in the end, I'd prefer them coming back to life rather than a: not being able to play them, or b: having them amazingly survive 109820918 broken bones, 3094809 punctured organs 390482093842 smashed heads, ORRRR JUST.. saying 'they were brutally beaten for 4 hours but got off okay'. Of course I don't mind others choosing to take only enough damage to survive (that actually just makes sense smh) I JUST dO THINGS A LITTLE EXTRA u kno what i mean s'how i enjoy shite. Like to take the repercussions when my size 7 birbdeer chooses to take on a giant like an idjit. AND SOMETIMES IT'S NICE FOR AN 'EFFECT', IDK
I don't think it's necessary to make a lasting effect on a character who comes back? Because it's not like it's an advantage- they died in the first place. BUT. Indigo is damaged permanently every time he dies, and has wound up with a few neurological issues as a result of being killed so many times. AAAaand at this point he's conscious of it and making an effort to calm the hell down and not ... get killed so many times.
I DO FREELY ADMIT THOUGH, oocly I'm not really impacted by characters dying anymore. It's not sad anymore so much as a 'GASP I WONDER WHAT'LL GO DOWN WHEN THEY COME BACK' which is! Exciting in its own right so I don't think it's a shame rly..
OMG THIS WAS SO MUCH I'M SORRY IAONLAKSDNLKASD i just wanted to b e part of the conversation
MMMM well this is an
for Kerosene, it's their job it's literally their job to deal with the dead and they're just so numb to it anymore that people dying is seen as a task and not always a person to them anymore. even if it was someone they cared about, to them it's definitely still part of their job but their prayer for safe passage would become a little more personal. they wouldn't grieve much though. maybe miss them a little, but no grief. an unfortunate side effect of a combination of their duty and their long long life. and i think at this point in their time in the forest they understand that the forest and gods of it work in mysterious ways to the point death isn't always permanent.
still, watching those you care about grieve for the deceased is hard, but ultimately very exhausting for them. they're not used to these emotions and drama that comes with dying because they're rarely involved with it and they just... find it kind of tiresome needing to deal with the bereaved more intimately here even if they realize this person they're mourning might not be all that dead. it's been interesting to watch their reactions over the past week because there's been quite a few deaths within their interaction circle, so they've felt compelled to keep an eye on the bereaved to make sure they're okay even if it tires them out a lot.
for indra, she plain doesn't care, she's not attached to anyone in the forest yet and it probably makes her come off as insensitive (and lbr she is lmao) so finding a dead body in the forest on her first real day here was just like, hey there's a dead guy kero you should probably get in here and do something about that
as for vodka, he hasn't been here long enough to understand. and i'm not entirely sure how he'd deal with it. he might become more reckless as a result of the idea he can't ACTUALLY die if the forest just brings people back. something i fear lmao, pls don't become a fight starter vodka i am too anxious for that shit.
but ultimately two of my characters cannot die so death is just an Everyday Thing to them. for the other well, i'm not real keen on him DYING quite yet so i mean if it happened i would probably bring him back but since i'm not huge on getting my characters into fights for somewhat ooc reasons then i don't really see it happening??
IDK THIS is probably just all really uninteresting information but i felt somewhat compelled to make a comment bc of kero's psychopomp-ish business
Aghhh I'm sorry you're going

Draak: Yeees, as we've been meaning to. Tbh I really need to motivate myself to play him more. I guess it's difficult to me because he's so indifferent about things like socialising, where I want to interact with people. But he def makes for good quiet company.
Mjrn: <3
That's exactly what a guilty person would say...tbh I do feel guilty for not
