And I know a lot about birds. But this one part has caught me out. And to be honest, I am not even sure if it is a real bird.
The bird I am trying to classify is in this video clip. It appears at 0:42 and then again at 0:49. It is the red one.
I really want to know more about the bird and where it comes from. I know a lot will probably thing a Cardinal, but they seem too far North for South America.
I ask because this is part of a grand little scheme of mine. I want to animate it and a few other red parrot species to some music. If it works the way I want it too and if Boss is pleased and can see a use for it, as well as other possible art/animation ideas than I can mooch my way out of purchasing drums.
Maybe one drum anyway seeing as I play doubles.
ANYWAYS. I WOULDREALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP.
If you know of any other red parrots, especially ones from South America, feel free to post some pictures.
Well, this was an animated movie. They could have very well made up a bird species. But judging by the beak, I would say it is a soft billed bird, most likely not a parrot.
There is a South American Cardinal though. I'll find some parrot species for you too

I have a feeling they might have taken a few liberties with that guy, but to me he looks an awful lot like a Summer Tanager. Unfortunately, they only live in southern parts of the U.S and Mexico, but the markings look pretty exact. I'll keep looking for you though c:
It may be a Vermilion Cardinal or a Crested Ant-Tanager. These are both in the Cardinalidae family and can be found in South America, particularly Colombia.
As for other red parrots, you might try looking up Red Factor Sun Conures as they can be quite brilliant, and Rosellas. Lories have some red species as well, like the Cardinal Lory and Red Lory/Red Lorikeet.
Hope this helps, and good luck with your search and your project! ^^
Hm, in the film Pedro is a Red-Crested Cardinal. This guy has a cardinal-quiff, but seems too big to be one. I wonder if it might just be a generic, funky-carnival red bird haha.
I have the DVD, I'll get a freeze-frame for you (:
I would say it was a female Eclectus, but it doesn't have the right beak or some of the colorings... not that its going to be completely accurate in an animated movie, lol, but they have curved beaks like other parrots and that one's is straighter, plus they usually have some blue on them, so hmm... I don't think its a cardinal either though. I'll see if any bird-people I know can figure it out.
