i just think people get a brave face on the internet. these guys wouldn't be brave enough to say this stuff to your face, over even a phone call. i've had some really rotten experiences, over things as dumb as my gear on another game...to the point it's made me cry before. i dunno if some forget that there's a real face behind that pretty avatar we use. :/

What makes me laugh is that this person posted up his own pictures trying to make himself look 'cool', but he really just made himself look worse. I mean other members of the community ridiculed this dude when he posted his own pictures.

I've been fortunate enough to avoid hatemail thus far in my intarweb life (here and elsewhere), but I know at least a few people on TEFc have received some. I'd have to go hunting to find the posts where it was mentioned, but I know there have been a couple mentionings.
I like to think that the wonderful folks here at TEFc are above such pettiness, but unfortunately some aren't. It's very sad.

Really, though, if you can't come out and say something to someone's face - in public - what does that say about you?

Unsurprisingly, I have endured my share of hate mail and thread flames. I was recently informed by a "friend" in another community that "everyone" thought I was a liar and a loser, along with some highly speculative (and wildly incorrect) guesses about my person and habits. I was completely floored by it, as I only post there about as much as I post here (not very much) and am not even terribly active in that community's events, etc...

I did some digging and it turns out that the author of the post is a 100 lb mother of one, 10 years my junior, and scarcely ever sets foot outside the walls of her own home. She literally has no friends or meaningful interaction IRL and spends about 99% of her waking hours finding people to grief online.

I was plenty mad after first reading her hate mail, but after learning all of that I really just felt sorry for her. I guess the lesson is that people who feel the need to be cruel to others to raise their own self-esteem are generally sad, lonely and stir-crazy dorks with way too much time on their hands who have no better way to get others to acknowledge their existence than to randomly verbally assault strangers on the internet.

Wow... that's just... wow. LOL! What point was he trying to prove with this other than he's still pretty much 12 years old, with the grammar skills to prove it? xD You're obviously way more mature and put-together than him, and way happier. And the picture won't load but I'm sure you look great!

I've never recieved hate mail, but I've gotten nasty, hurtful responses to comments on forums about silly things like beliefs(religion-wise, paranormally, etc) or just general opinions... those people that just want to bash everything you say because they don't agree with it and clearly they're superior for it and MUST tell you that- always got stopped in their tracks. I'd just say "okay, that's nice. Have a good day! :D" Some people would keep responding and taunting me, like it pissed them off that I wasn't being as petty as them. People can be ridiculous.

I kept them for a while but then deleted them one day, sorry. It wasn't really a good time of my life, since I stopped listening to Asia for a long while afterward. I still get the 'Asia Armada' newsletter but have never sent anything in because of that dude.

I sometimes pop oldschool Asia back in and reminisce at all the stupid storylines I made to the songs. My ideas weren't all that good back then - Tech Tertiary, for example, was the story that dinosaurs actually had a civilization far more advanced than our own and somehow all of the evidence was destroyed so you never see it in the fossil record, but it would have been impossible to explain.

Anyway, some of the songs reminded me of that story and others. I even had a storyline for "Sole Survivor", of course I rarely listen to that song anymore.
