Hello there!
I am Margo Putzeys, a student Game- and Digital Design and I am currently doing my internship with Tale of Tales. I am still studying but I will be entering my Master year next schoolyear.
For my internship Auriea Harvey and Michael Samyn asked me if I wanted to work with the players and make models and concept art together. And with great pleasure I accepted this of course! This means you will be able to add art to the game!
But there are some 'rules' attached to this: If you make a 3D model, pleas send it as an .OBJ file to me. But a .Blender file ( Blender's file extension ) would be even better! But a .OBJ is good as well! As for the concept art you can send a photoshop file, PNG of JPEG.
So what can you make? Well it's like a set that the deers can wear in the game! This set includes: a mask, antlers and a pelt. Both made for the adult deer AND the baby deer. You can (if some of you know how and want to) texture these models by using a UV map. If you do texture them, send texture files as a PNG. ( PNG supports transparancy )
But of course you are never obligated to making more than you like. The meaning of this task is also for me to make stuff, so if you only would like to make the adult deer's models, that's fine by me. I can always texture them, add models, etc.
So if any of you are interested in putting your art or 3D models in the game. Send them to me and I can adjust them if necessary or take a look if something needs to be changed and so on.
You can of course also send your concept art to me and I can realise that concept art into a 3D model which may have a chance to be put in the actual game: The Endless Forest!
My e-mail adres is :
Margo.Putzeys@gmail.com. I hope I will be hearing soon from you guys!!
Greetings,
Margo
EDIT: from Michael and Auriea --
To be clear, we want Margo to do ALL of the modeling and ALL of the texturing. Because that is what her internship is about. YOU, players, are requested to send her concept art or point her to already existing concept art (on this very website, for instance). SHE can choose which concepts she models and textures. But WE, Auriea and Michaël, choose which go into the game. We hope there will be many!
This sounds very
Pardon me though, over the years I have grown more than skeptical. Is this true? Will M&A be able to confirm this is true?
Hello Margo, Going to repeat
Going to repeat Parrotsnpineapple here but yeah, this sounds exiting. But I would as well also want to ask you some questions.
How sure is it any of this is coming in the game? As far as we know, adding things to the game is not so easy and I think it wasn’t really planned to either? I don’t mind making art of course, but I also know of some game-design people who play TEF who’d love to make models but it’d be a waste of time if this all turned out to be more of a concept-thing and not something that’d actually happen.
Secondly, for texturing UV maps/etc we need the uv maps to begin with. Are you going to make those available for us?
Thirdly, for model making, I’m sure there are more limits than just a file type. If one would happen to want to make a mask, what other restrictions would there be? Polygon amount, for example, perhaps things that can’t happen. Or antlers. Can they be a-symetric or not, how are you thinking of implementing those things?
I think we’d like some more info overall, and yeah, perhaps a confirmation from Michael or Auriea. And perhaps what their plans are too.
Also, you posted this topic three times, which might be confusing to some people. You can delete a topic by clicking the edit button at the top, then pressing delete at the bottom of the page. Also, you changed your display name to Margo instead of Gooke6, and that causes a glitch that will give you an error when you try to comment. So you might want to change it back to Gooke6.
Otherwise, congrats on your internship
Mis took the words right out
Hi Mis! To answer your
To answer your questions :
First off, yes, this is true. It was even an idea of Michael or Auriea themselves. They are on vacation at the moment till the 3rd and always quite busy but if you want I can ask them to send a confirmation when they get back? And I can never promise that the art we make will always end up in the game because it's always up to Michael and Auriea themselves to choose if the designs are acceptable. But I know for sure the intention to this task is that the designs, or at least some of them, ultimately end up in the game.
Secondly: as far as I know the antlers can be a-symatrical but I maybe I should ask Michael or Auriea before I confirm this. Because I don't know this for sure, but personally I don't see a problem with that.
For the mask making: it's maybe a good idea to put the models of the baby deer and the adult deer online so you could actually make the masks to fit on their faces. I'm going to ask Michael or Auriea when they get back if I can do that tho, since it's their model. As for polygon amount, I would say that for every model you make (mask or antlers) you can consider 4000-5000 tris as a guideline, not a rule. But a guideline.
For the UV mapping, when I get the confirmation that I am allowed to send the baby deer and the adult deer's models, you get the UV with them automaticly when you look in the UV editor of your program. And if you like I can also send the basic textures of both of them because it's easier to work on their pelt that they have at the moment than making a whole new one.
Thank you for mentioning the glitch. I noticed it but thought it was temporary. Changed it back now
Posted it three times because I wanted to see where it would be noticed. But I deleted the other two now so thanks again
And thank you very much again, I'm quite happy with it
Lastly, I think it's a good idea that we discuss at this point how you want to keep in contact and how you want to send your art. We can do it by e-mail as I mentioned before or it's also possible to make a folder on dropbox and share that folder with everyone who wants to send in some art
Greetings,
Margo
Man.....i am really exited to
Become !!
New sets to play with .....yesss!!
This seems really
I am also excited It's just
this sounds really cool I
Thank you for your answers
I think that would be great, yeah. I’ll take your word for it, but it’s always good to make sure. And well, I figured not everything would get put in! And I’m sure you’ll have to prepare for a lot of submissions!
Also yes, having the models of the deer would be very helpful in that, if M&A would be okay with it of course. Seeing what you’re doing directly on the model would be very handy for some of us. I think most will be sending you concept art though, which I’m sure is going to be very interesting to see for us but for you as well! Have you looked around the site a little? There’s a lot of good art and ideas around here, so I’m sure you’ll have plenty to do haha. Lots of creative people.
Communication-wise you have a good point. Dropbox is great, but I’m not sure everyone uses it and I think it’ll get filled very quickly. It would maybe be practical for 3D models? A lot of people communicate through this website alone, so perhaps a blog where people can link to their things might be helpful. I think there’s a few line arts going around that people might want to offer to others to design skin’s with so perhaps a central blog with links to those as well could be handy.
I know in the past, when there were a lot less players though, M&A did something similar where people could send in their designs and they’d model them on the deer. Quite a few of those ended up in the game too. I think at that time the forums were more active so possibly they had people send in stuff through there. But yes, the amount of players has grown greatly. I think you’ll have a lot of input.
I’m kind of thinking as I type so forgive me if I ramble. I think the biggest downside with dropbox is that it’ll fill up quickly. Email might make it very private with others not seeing what everyone is making and chaotic possibly for you, so I’m thinking a blog on this website specifically for linking to artwork/ideas/etc would be best. But that’s my opinion. In the end I suppose you’ll need to figure out what works best for you too. It all has upsides and downsides. But yes, this website is trafficked a lot, likely more in the evening hours than right now though. And if M&A would decide to make a big announcement post everyone’d be sure to see it.
If you ever have a question otherwise though everyone here is very helpful and I’m sure willing to help out in any way. Me too, of course!
Sounds really interesting ;u;
You have good point there
Dropbox does indeed fill up quickly and e-mail could become a bit chaotic. So I will have to see what works best. I'm thinking about two different options here: First one is that I ask M&A to make a subsection on this forum where people put the art they want to contribute into this collaboration event. Second one is that my dropbox folder is 28 GB big so maybe it could contain everything in the end.
And you are right about the creative people. I already took a look around and saw a lot of great stuff! I would be really happy if I could make 3D models out of these concepts because I am more into making the 3D then the concept art
And if I have any questions I will make sure to ask them here
This is very exciting news,
-sits bum down and watches-
Awww. It is very
I am pleased by thought that in game there can be something new.
I think i remember some posts
And also. Can be to you will
Can't wait to try my chances
Thank you for the input, and the help you've offered to the forest, Margo!
Wauw Eltera! That's a lot
That's a lot of pelts ! There are a few in there I would like to try and make a texture of. Making a pelt on a UV map - in my opinion- is way more difficult than putting it on a drawn deer. So with some pelts I am wondering myself how I would be able to make that on a UV map in order that it would look good on the 3D model. But I am always willing to try stuff.
it's my pleasure Dotte! I am
