It rained. It rained for quite a while. This had been the second day of the nonstop downpour, and nobody knew when it would stop. It seemed darker than usual, causing bats and owls to come about. Along with the rain, red petals fell from nowhere like somber leaves. The strange weather was a celebration, a commemoration to those who were not among the living.
A stag stood by the Pond, gazing at his reflection. His black pelt shined in the damp atmosphere, making the skeletal patterns shine even brighter. His antlers twitched. The short, black protrusions came to a hand-like shape at the end. And that's just what they were. They could move, stretch, bend, anything you wouldn't expect an antler to do. But when not in use, they stood in their rightful place, the occasional twitch catching anyone looking off guard.
His face was the same color black. Dull scarlet eyes peered at the water, looking more through the reflection rather than at it. Green strikes marked his upper eyes, and his top lip seemed to be shaded lighter than his pelt.
He didn't appear here often. Or anywhere at all, really. It was the weather that brought him out. In a normal, cloudless day in the Forest, he was a cheerful teenager. He bounced and bound with the others, without a care in the world. But the clouds hung over the Forest, blocking all possible light from reaching him. It made him a little less cheery. And soon all his emotion was gone. Nothing left but an unfeeling, logical stag, almost mechanical in his thinking. Never exaggerating his voice or actions, not one sign of feeling or emotion.
He continued to stare at the water, when something caught his bloodred eyes. A doe was not too far away. He had heard of this one before. Of course, he didn't react in any special way, he couldn't. He noted her presence, and returned to staring. But she came over to him.

The gods had left, and the fog had cleared. The giant undead deer returned to the shadows from whence he came, and all manner of spooks and frights went with him.
Skokey stood in the shade of a giant flower, some of the fog still remaining. He looked to the giant pool of blood where the Pond was supposed to lay. He had the unfortunate accident of thinking it was merely a color change. But a big gulp of rusty, cold gunk slid down his throat in the most unpleasant manner imaginable. He knew once the water was purified, he would have to take another drink to get the horrid feeling out of his mouth.
Skokey let out a sigh, "Well, ghost, it's over. Your lover isn't here anymore."
There was a pause. I know.
"So that means you're returning to the afterlife?"
Correct.
Skokey waited, rolling his eyes. "Is that gonna happen soon?"
She sighed. I suppose, yes. Just step into a patch of sunlight, and I will leave you at peace.
Skokey made his way over to a well-known sunspot. And it was extra bright for a reason. Before treading on the ground that shone under it, he gave a long, deep bow. He took a few steps, and could feel some of the weight leave his spirit.
Skokey blinked under his mask. "Will you be back next year?"
Yes. But I do not think I will take up your body next time. You were definately a fighting spirit. And I can see you have much to take care of in your own life. I apologize for taking so much of your time away from your family. I will not bother you again next year.
He smiled. "If I see a deer with this costume, I'll be sure to check if it's you. By then I'm sure I'll look back on this and laugh."
You are indeed the kindred spirit, Skokey. I will be sure to find you next Hallow's Eve.
There was a long pause. Skokey finally spoke, "Aren't you going somewhere?"
There was no responce.
"Hello? Ghost in my head, are you there?"

Skokey fidgeted.
The tallish man sat in his chair, swaying back and forth, waiting for the clock to strike the next hour. His dyed black hair, aside from ginger bangs, was anxiously smoothed out in an attempt to calm himself. It was almost time.
Fenqua hadn't been home for quite some time. She had a few things she needed to take care of. A few things Skokey had no power over, even though he attempted to help. She even took the twins with her, for some odd reason. He thought she was going to show them off to her friends. He was eagerly awaiting her return. The man jumped when he heard a knock at the door.
Skokey made his way down to the door. "Oh, hey Fulu. What's up?"
The young woman smiled, squinting her black eyes slightly. "Just thought I'd drop by, see how you were. I know Fenqua isn't here right now. You must be lonely all by yourself."
"Yeah, well... That's what TV is for, right?"
Fulu looked behind him. "... The TV is off."
Skokey looked behind him, and blushed lightly. "Well, maybe I didn't feel like watching it..."
Skokey let Fulu in. She kicked off her skaters and hopped up the stairs. She looked a lot like Skokey, you could tell they were siblings. Their faces seemed to be the same shape, and their noses were definately the same. The only thing different about their faces were their eyes. Skokey's dull hazel eyes seemed always half closed, while Fulu's shiny black eyes were normally wide open.
Skokey sat himself on the couch, shifting his body so he was lying on it. He pulled his arms up and put his hands under his head, making his black shirt come up a little. Fulu, walking passed him, slapped his exposed stomach, causing him to yell and move his hands back down.
"So, anything new with you?" She said, twirling her dark brown hair.
