Art plz

Hello everyone, as you may or may not know I am still very new to this forum. The Endless Forest is a wonderful game and experience, so much so that it has drawn out the artist in me. Which says a lot considering that I don't draw very often.

That being said I am trying very hard to work with my tablet. Yes I have one, but I much prefer paper and pen rather than online drawing. However, with my deer anatomy lacking and wonderful pictures out there I can trace outlines of, I can't help but ask.

Could anyone give me tips for working with Paint Tool Sai? Many layers and practice is a given yes but I'm horible with recognicing layers and which to shade with. I always start with layer one being the vast outline, all together. Then I work on the pelt from lightest to darkest. Starter at Lightest (the white and pale colors of the fawns coat) to Whiter (The light tan to peach color of the pelt.) Darker (The chestnut and tan colors) to Darkest (the red and brown colors)

Then comes the shading and that where this get tricky, how do I start blending the colors? Do I make a new layer?

Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you, as you can see from one drawing i have I seriously need to work on my practice.

Butting Heads

Despite it's youth, this young fawn can't wait to grow up. Already through the forest many of the older deer gallop and trot all sporting their majestic antlers.

Today young Atoli has something in mind, a little secret she's learned. Although she is a female deer, she swears upon getting her antlers. With a kick she rears her front body up and waves her young but powerful front legs in the air then, she charges.

...

Only to have her plan backfire as she rams head first into a small pine tree.

'Oww.' She shudders, picking herself up and shaking her head to clear away the stars. 'That could have gone better.' Still slightly dizzy she would not let this deter her. She backs away, skidding one of her front hooves on the ground and readies to charge again.

She will find a pine cone and she will get her antlers.

Welcome to the Forest;

The Visit ( RP )

RP Guidelines:
Please be mindful that I have been RPing since I was 10 years old. I have come to have a 'standard' of sorts when it comes to RP. I will request that you be literate and show that you grasp an understanding of the English language. This means that you will need to use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. to the best of your ability when replying to me. Please also use a logical storyline when posting. This means that you can't just be talking one moment and in some life or death battle in another place in the next moment. Finally, please take the time to look at Moss' biography before posting. On that page, there is some useful information on how to go about interacting with him for a more interesting RP that won't just fall apart. If these guidelines are ignored, you will also be ignored. It's that simple.

Okay, now that that little spiel is over, please look below the cut for the RP itself!

Can we all show a little restraint please?

Please?

l have been seeing a ton of new characters being created by older players. I would be all for it as it's an expression of creativity, but the amount of third generation pictos being registered is causing them to dwindle at an alarming rate. I would just like to caution all current players to be careful about how many new pictos you are registering right now. It would be wise to really consider a character before registering a brand new account for them. Otherwise please recycle an old picto you aren't using at the moment. We can't have new players without pictos for them.

Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to be the "Pictogram Police" or anything, just putting a concern out there. Anyone who wants to argue about my post can contact me on Skype (just_ rae). Otherwise, feel free to post your thoughts below.

Tera also had some good ideas, please consider them as alternatives!

One thing that can be done is to create characters that are Community Site characters only. These are ones that do not have a pictogram. This sort of play works really well for characters that you can't represent, or due to an aggressive/obnoxious nature, don't want to play in game. I've used this before for two of my characters and ended up having amazing RP experiences with them and getting more meaningful contact than in game! Just because a character is fun to draw and RP doesn't mean they NEED a pictogram. You can draw and RP without one, using your main account! This is also a fantastic way to 'test drive' a new character, to see if you will actually continue to play them. If you find yourself growing bored of them within a few weeks, don't register a pictogram for them. If you find yourself really growing attached and the character is rewarding for you, consider giving it a unique account (if that character would benefit from being in The Forest itself).
