I was gonna explain in the same post, but it would have ruined the effect rather if you had caught the reference. ^^;
It's from a Doctor Who episode, with all the stone angels, and they could move phenomenally fast, but only when you weren't looking. When you were looking, they turned to stone. A defence mechanism, you see. They would always freeze with their hands or an arm over their eyes, so that they would never freeze looking at each other, and therefore be trapped forever. This made them look like they were crying, and thus have been dubbed 'Weeping Angels'.
When you do look away, or even blink, then they would either 'dissapear' by the time you opened your eyes again, or would have touched you. If they touch you, you get sent back into a time before you were born, and the creature would feed off the energy of the life that you never lived, as you weave a new timeline. One blink, and your life is changed forever...
The reason I can remember all this off the top of my head, is because it's my favourite DW episode ever. So every time I see an angel statue, or even a gargoyle, I think DON'T BLINK. So you're room would be pretty much inescapeable! ^^;
