The Wolf's Insight (Questions for Quad Wolf)

quadraptor's picture

He sits on his pillar at the Ruins, relaxed, with steady breaths. His eyes are closed and his mind is clear.

The blue wolf seems out of place in this Forest. He opens his eyes and notices you there, a gentle smile appears on his face as his brown eyes meet yours.

"Oh hello there. I didn't hear you approach. I understand you're here to ask me something. Please go right ahead, I'm listening. Don't expect me to know all the answers, for I do not have them. I simply have the wolf's insight."

"What would you like to ask me?"

-------------------------------------------

Just another idea I had similar to Hex's Fortunetelling Blog...

Quad Wolf is a part of me representing my spiritual side. Despite his appearance, he is much like the fat blackbuck antelope you would know Quad to normally be. Quad Wolf is calmer and more serious than as an antelope, and he finds enjoyment in meditating as well as questioning things and considering the answers. Here's your chance to ask him anything you'd like - about himself, about life, about nature, about philosophy, whatever.

How it works ~

- Simply ask a question, or if you prefer, write your character approaching Quad Wolf and ask him.
- I'll give the best answer I can.

A few rules ~

- You can ask as many questions as you'd like, but you may or may not like the answer. Ask at your own risk.
- Please don't take this seriously. Just like Hex's fortunetelling, this is simply for fun. I'm no guru or genius, and besides, the answers will come from Quad Wolf's heart Eye

And just a note - Quad Wolf's answers will be heavily influenced by both Zen and Buddhism as well as Native American spirituality.

Ask away X3

"Don't let my appearance

"Don't let my appearance scare you. I'm still the same Quad you know, just in this form my mind is a little different. I'm at more of an equilibrium both mentally and emotionally, where when I'm an antelope I'm extremely happy and silly. It's complicated, but please don't be afraid of me. It's an honor to answer your questions."

Oh,I love philosophy ^^

The blue and white pelted doe looked suprisingly up at the blue wolf sitting on the pillar of the surreal Ruins. Her blue eyes observed him for a moment as she listened to his intro and she began to feel intrigued by this being, then a question rose up in her mind.

"Hello good sir,I..I was wondering.I heard you meditate and I would like to ask,how do you know when you're in a state of well-being? Is it obvious? Do you have to seek hard?"

The wolf nodded his head to her words, "There is a saying I heard once, 'Do not seek enlightenment...just bow.'. I can relate this to your question as well.

Finding a state of well-being is not hard. It actually comes naturally. The point where you achieve this is simply the point where you begin to 'lose yourself'. It's an odd feeling to describe, but it's when you've cleared your mind, and are only focusing on that around you, even your own breaths. And then...things start to disappear around you...

The experience may will most likely be brief the first time, as your mind is easy to wander. But the point where you begin to feel everything around you vanish, this is when you're in the right state of mind. Allow yourself to let go. Let your guard down at this point, don't tense up, don't think, just observe all around you and let peace and harmony flow.

Don't seek well-being out, let it find you.

I hope this is answers your question."

A scrap of red in the breeze,

A scrap of red in the breeze, fluttering, and a cardinal comes to rest at the wolf's paws. It looks up into the wolf's golden eyes with it's own beetle-black shiny ones and opens its beak to trill a question.

"Brother, are you at peace with yourself?"
quadraptor's picture

The wolf lowered his head

The wolf lowered his head briefly in a bow to the cardinal, and then spoke, "My peace is much like the tides - on days much like when the tides are low, I feel drained, the fish of peace are long gone since they cannot dwell within waters so shallow. But on other days like when the tides are high, my peace is plentiful, my mind is calm and collected, I am full of wondrous ideas and life, the fish have returned to inspire and enlighten me.

I cannot control these emotional tides, at least not yet. But one day the waters will calm, the tides will cease to rule my life, and I will truly find my peace.

So to answer your question, temporarily, I am at peace, but I already know it will not last. Thank you for your concern, it truly means the world to me."

The young stag skims over the ground like a dark bird. He bursts into the clearing around the Ruins—and freezes. A wolf!

The buck's eyes are wide with fear behind his mask. But...wait...this wolf seems familiar, somehow. He is fat and sleek and strong; teeth glint like hard moons in his mouth, but his smile is not unkind. And he smells like...Quad?

The wolf speaks. Yes, it is Quad's voice—rougher, deeper, more solemn, more fierce and wild in its sound—but Quad's all the same.

Anjali steps forward slowly. He thinks of his own shyness.
"Wolf Quad, I am often afraid: afraid of bothering others, afraid of messing up...afraid of uncertainty. How do I become less fearful?"
quadraptor's picture

The wolf smiled and bowed his

The wolf smiled and bowed his head politely, then began to speak. "A wise old stag once said a quote I will never forget:

'We cannot enjoy life if we spend a lot of time worrying about what happened yesterday and what will happen tomorrow. We worry about tomorrow because we are afraid. If we are afraid all the time, we cannot appreciate that we are a live and can be happy now.'*

A simple way to become less fearful is to take things one day at a time. 'Live in the present moment' is a famous Buddhism quote, and what it means is simply not to dwell too much in the past or worry about the future, but to live here today in the present. You may have a difficult week ahead of you, one that you may not look forward to, but if you take each day at a time, you'll understand that collectively the things that worried you so much are simply just minor inconveniences that you can handle with each day.

If there is someone you are particularly afraid of bothering, by all means, ask them. You'll continue to be afraid of what could happen if you don't know the truth. I know this myself, I've let questions eat away at my heart, and I remained miserable during that time. But when I finally asked, my fears and worries were relieved.

I hope this answers your question."

"A simple musing to

"A simple musing to myself...

I find it interesting that people possess things that are of no use to them aside from trying to convey that they are of a particular 'status' or that they are rich or powerful. Things made of gold, silver, and diamonds are perfect examples. Yet these people spend their entire lives living in fear that their coveted valuable possession will be stolen. I find that interesting.

My human's mother said something to him once:

'Someone could come in my house and take away everything I own, as long as they left five things - you, Matt, Brandy, Misty, and Boo - and I would have everything I need.'

Things of monetary value are nice to have, they may help us pass our time, may make us look good, and so on...but true treasures are those of the heart. I could give away the few things I own and continue to be happy, but that is only because I see more value in the trees, the Sun, the Moon, the ground we stand on, the air, and the stars than anything I could possess that could be taken away from me."

"I find it interesting that

"I find it interesting that you can relate an idea expressed in The Lion King with a Buddhist idea:

In The Lion King, Mufasa says, "When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. So you see, we are all connected to the great circle of life." This is actually a pretty influential Buddhist idea too. Buddhists do not believe in things such as birth and death, but rather they believe that we always exist in different forms. What do you get when you put sunlight, water, and minerals together? A flower! What happens to the flower after a while? It withers and loses it's form. Is it completely gone? Not necessarily, instead it returns to the soil and gives back to the Earth that which brought it into the world as a flower. It will one day become something else.

Or to put this in another way, take a blade of grass. A deer walks by and eats it. Is it 'dead'? Not necessarily, it simply becomes part of the deer now.

How interesting that Disney can explain such a complex idea in the words Mufasa spoke..."

"There is a famous Zen chant...

Life is fleeting.
Gone, gone-
Awake.
Awake each one!
Don’t waste this life!

How wonderful this is! Another famous saying is Carpe Diem!, which is a Latin phrase that translates to "Seize the Day!".

Human life runs about 100 years (unless you lived in early Biblical times where people lived closer to 1000 years), and there are so many new things to discover in life! Try something new every day, you may find a new thing you will love!

My human, Chris, tried roe (fish eggs) once out of curiosity, and he loves them now. He is also very fond of listening to new music, and often will buy an album if the cover art intrigues him. He would not have learned about Native American spirituality as well as Buddhism if he didn't choose to look into what they are about.

So seize the day! Try something new! Be adventurous! You never know what wonders you will discover in our world!"

"My human, Chris, learned a valuable lesson today - 'Don't worry so much!'

His brother got off of work early so he invited Chris to dinner. So he picked him up at the house and they drove to a local restaurant. After they ate, his brother asked him if he had any one-dollar bills for a tip. Chris reached into his pocket and was shocked to realize his wallet wasn't there! He began to worry about where it was, immediately thinking that he might have dropped it somewhere in the restaurant since his mom called him and he had pulled out his cell phone earlier.

Well, they decided to head back home, and at this point Chris was still worried about where his wallet was, but he took a deep breath and said "I probably just didn't pick it up."

Sure enough, when he got home, it was just sitting by his laptop. He felt a wave of relief rush past when he saw it sitting there.

So lesson learned, we all sometimes should stop, take a deep breath, and consider all possibilities before we panic."

"My human figured out why he

"My human figured out why he is both passionate about peace and supportive of the US military. He has wondered this for many years, how someone could be both for peace and war at the same time...how someone could contradict themselves.

He has said the reason why he is supportive of the military is for a few reasons -

First off, they're human beings who are very much, much more courageous than him. They put themselves in danger for the country. It shows their dedication and patriotism.

But the second reason is that Chris supports the military for keeping the country safe and for the defensive side. He wishes this current war to end so the troops can be home taking care of our country instead of overseas. He is an advocate for defense, not war.

I may not understand all human policies, and how nations work, but I do agree with him. A wolf without fangs to protect himself, no matter how peaceful he is, will surely die."
