What you say...

Here's my art,
but I'll say it's crap...

I might have spent hours on it,
but I'll call it a failure...

Just because there is better,
I say mine will never be great...

No I won't,
Because my art is my spine.

~-----------------------------------------------------~

Don't belittle yourself or your art.
As an artist you'll not be happy with everything you produce, that's a fact of life in art, but never belittle your work and yourself with degrading, hollow criticisms. Nobody will blame you or flame you, if your art isn't as good as you expect it to be. We're not going to hate you because you might not be the best.
If you say you can't draw, you never will.

Respect your art,
Respect yourself.

Verdy: Well if I broke my spine, there would be a chance I'd be unable to draw...but I was going more metaphorical than that lol. Ya know, the whole it supports me, holds me up, blablabla.

Mick: Aww lol that's ok, I don't do minimal art that often so I figured it was best to include a title/hint just in case hehe.

That's really beautiful, I like how it's just enough to give a very clear idea, and nothing extra. Minimalism takes a lot of work.

Thanks quaesting, there was originally more to it than this, but I broke it down and left it really simple. I'm glad you like it that way.

Very beautiful, the simplistic picture as well as wise words.
I´m not happy with anything I do after that moment of pleasure when it´s finished. You just have to overcome that.... or do nothing at all. =)

A fantastic combination of

A fantastic combination of words and picture. Very true words, and the picture is yet another proof of that old, worn out but nevertheless forever true sentence: "Less is More." Oh my that made a long statement.

May I show this to my teachers? I am studying to be a graphic designer and this is very graphically interesting/impressive. I would like to make a poster out of it and hang it on the wall in one of our classrooms to remind my fellow design-students to not neglect or degrade their own work... Just a spontaneous idea. May I?

I have heard too much of their whining... I even catch myself doing that sometimes.
Well this was a long comment. XD

Thank you everyone!

Thank you everyone! Smiling

Shulgalaj: I would he honored! Feel free to print it out and edit it as you see fit. Smiling

You know Tera... This makes

You know Tera... This makes me feel better in so many ways.

I have what you could call severe chronic disappointment in my art. I draw something, and then look to one of my idols or favourite artists, and then become shameful, angry at my work. I never feel good enough.

My most recent work, "Drag Me To Hell, Darling" was a macabre piece based on.. Well, many emotions. My most idolized and admired artist, Direfly aka Jero, she saw it and told me "I love it. It's unique, dark, and portrays the very soul of your character. Well done."

I will never look down upon my art again. It was by trying harder and harder, looking after my greatest idol's art styles and adding my own emotions to it, that I finally broke free of my disappointment.

This thread only backs up the strength I feel in my 'spine'. (:

Thank you.

Today I hung a poster with

Today I hung a poster with the picture and text on a wall in school and everyone seemed to agree with me: it is very thoughtful, neat-looking and graphically interesting. They especially liked that the text that says "No I won't, because my art is my spine" was red, just like the spine. It adds a little extra to it all. They wanted me to tell you that they liked it and thought it could do much good having it hang on our wall! We all need to think about it sometimes. ^^

Crim: That's amazing that you

Crim: That's amazing that you got such a comment from an idol, and I'm super happy you're pleased with your art as well. I mean, there will still be times where you say "Aw man, that didn't work!" but like you said, it's by trying harder and emotions are a huge part of art and style. Thank you for such rewarding feedback! Smiling

Lu: Aha I always type hear as well! lol and Thank You for commenting!

Calypta: You can thank me by posting whenever you have something you feel like sharing, that'd be an epic thankyou in my book ;D

Shulgalaj: Laughing out loud I'm glad to hear everybody liked it! I hope it can help keep things in perspective for your classmates in the future. Send my regards and thanks for the feedback. Smiling

Bumping this because I've

Bumping this because I've seen this happening again recently, and it makes me sad.

I do not comment on art when the artist can't even come up with something nice to say about it, that doesn't make me feel my compliments or advice are valued. If you want people to say nice things, do so yourself. Have pride in your accomplishments, however small!
