The exact same thing has happened to me, too! And the deer didn't do anything... it just stood there. O.o

It's quite odd and somewhat annoying.

It's a known glitch that

It's a known glitch that nameless deer will often show up with your picto. Everyone else will see their own picto.

Sometimes you can have named deer show up with your picto. Restarting the game usually fixes this.
