I'm very excited to be able to announce that the project to remake The Endless Forest with contemporary technology has reached the beta stage. This means that the game now includes all the features of the original, but still contains many bugs that need to be fixed. Backers have received a download link to the new build.

I do have a couple questions, is the head-turning with camera feature planned to be re-implemented in later releases? I love this feature a lot! You move the camera and your head looks with it - and if you hit C then your deer looks into the camera.
Another one I was curious about is if the "animation-blending" (as discussed here) is planned to be added too, though I know you specified in the comments this would be after everything else is done. I found an Unreal page here which may explain it better, as I'm unsure I was clear enough on what exactly it was, back in my original comments.

I could definitely tell that there was a frame limiter in place in the beta now as things ran more normal and didn't make my PC into a jet. It does help a lot, though I do get screen tearing occasionally. A future suggestion could be a optional vsync option, if that might be possible for the remake it could help that even further. Certain settings also do not seem to save after quitting the game, most notably forest density option is reset back to lowest option upon starting the game again.
Though really other than those I have noticed personally, it is a nice place that the remake is at for being the first beta, and obviously theres going to be bugs and whatnot that will be worked out in time. Thank you Michael and Auriea for the hard work over the years for making this happen during your busy times, as always looking forward to what comes next!

And I love all those tiny little details, like the sound of the splashing water when the deer steps in de Drinkplaats. Also, a huge thanks for adding more languages to the menu.
Sorry to hear that the animation blending may not be implemented, it's such a big part of the in-game communication. At least I hope it will be possible to assign hotkeys to the actions in the next build, 'cause it takes too long to navigate through the action bar. Btw, the nuzzle action is still missing, please don't forget to add it! <3
Looking forward to be able to use P for taking screenshots too, as well as other frequently used keyboard buttons. As far as I remember, Esc for Menu and Ctrl for hiding the action bar used to work in earlier alpha versions, but now they don't.
I've also encountered a weird bug when my avatar suddenly becomes invisible for me (other players see me, though). It has happened once after I drank from de Drinkplaats, once when I sniffed another deer and a couple of times while I was just running around. Neither relogging, nor reconnecting helped, so I had to restart the game.
Oh, and I was wondering, what's that graffiti at the Ruins?

I really hope animation
Will more options be added into the menu, since we're still missing some from the original? And would it be possible to add an option to remove the glow ring for PC's that might not be able to handle it?
And as far as the deer locomotion goes, will that be polished more in the next/and or final version of the game? Since it's pretty janky/sluggish/slide-y at the moment, and it gets pretty bouncy if you try to interact with objects like the playground.
I can also attest that this does not work at the moment. I'm additionally having trouble turning into a fawn because I'm unable to press the button for it, but I still see others using it fine so I'm not sure what the issue is there.
Some things: Can not access
Can not access the menu via esc unless running in admin mode.
No way to run in window unless you move the resolution slider down and then check run in window. This option is also selected when running the game by default. It has to be unchecked and rechecked first.
^ Same for the fawn option.

Michael, would it be helpful to you for us to compile a list of bugs etc. somewhere (now or in future releases)? I know tracking down bugs and their sources can take a lot of effort, and I feel like something like a Google Form would be a lot more useful to you than the general chaos of the forums, and I know the community would be happy to pitch in with providing details on potential causes and so on.

I will set up a better way for you to submit bug reports when I'm ready to deal with them. At the moment my own lists are long enough to keep me busy.
As for the animation blending, I will look into this when the rest of the game is close enough to completion. But, I cannot make any promises. I do not know if I will be able to replicated this bug in the new engine.
And yes, the idea is to shut down the current game completely once the remake is good enough to replace it. With any luck we can do this before Microsoft gets around to do it for us.
