She shivered slightly at the touch of the snow, though she was unsure whether it was the cold or just repulsion. It was a surreal world here. What had been going through her mind when she went through?
She glanced back at the mirror. Should she go back through and return home? She gave a definate head shake. No. She was here now. She would not be a coward.
She took her first few steps forward, leaving her hoof prints imbedded in the snow. It was a path to lead her back after her explorations - because, she wouldn't be here long. Hopefully.
His posture mirrors the fawn's, strung as taught as a violin string that snaps when he bucks and tosses his head, snorting with laughter and springing sideways. The two dance on their hooves, brd whipping back and doubling forward, sailing clear over the fawn's back when their paths cross. He looks over his shoulder, flipping his tail.

He was so startled by what he saw that he nearly drops the camera in his hand. "Oh! What a terrible thing that has been done to you!", he speaks with genuine compassion in his voice. The meditative side of him was getting the better of his frustration, and listening intently, he continues to hear the gentle sobs coming from where the skull lay.
With one hand holding the camera (so he could see where he was aiming), he unsheathed his katana, and he speaks the following, "No soul should ever suffer like this! I release you from your bonds!"
With a one-handed swipe, he attacks the chains to his left, expecting either to cut through thin air like before...or to connect with metal.
@bluejay: As she walked, the silence around her was eerily present. It dripped into her ears and slid down her spine, causing the chill the not-cold-enough snow could not.
Strange shadows moved among the black shapes of the snow-covered trees, leaving neither footprints nor sounds in their wake...
But suddenly, a single, tiny sound penetrated the silence...
The call of a fawn...
@eyestrain: To see the fawn sailing down below him, coming to a skidding halt and turn, legs flailing and a joyful giggle in its voice.
Its eyes shine beautifully and the stars above mirror them.
Taunt-charging at the stag, its tiny head bumps playfully into his leg, making it jump back and dance around him, rearing giddily. Its very movement is filled with excitement, as if it had not played with anyone for years...
@Bayleen: But the fawn just sighed and pressed closer against the maternal doe. "Safe... but not free..." the words shimmered at the edge of Mariposa's vision, as if they were shy to show themselves and they were gone before she could read them properly.
@Quad: And as his katana reached the gruesome, black chains, he did indeed connect with metal, making it screech and break, splintering like glass, flying everywhere, the tiny shards falling down like dust and mixing in with the feathers on the floor.
The little girl stirred, her eyelids fluttering softly...
The girl stares with interest at the crack--had that been there before? Well, no matter, she thinks, rubbing her hands over the crack, almost without worry that she could be cut.
Ah! She listens. A creek! And the smell of summer! Wow! This cannot be all that bad, can it? she wonders, stepping closer to examine it more.
And now the other side..., the samurai thinks, and repeats the process, slashing at the chains on the other side of the girl now. This time he expects to clash with the strange ethereal metal.
@010: And as she steps closer, she can just barely make out a midsummer evening's visage through the crack, which is like the parting of two curtains, complete with the flowing movement of fabric through the glass surface as well.
It invites her closer, the air warm and filled with the sweet perfume of flowers of all kinds.
@Quad: And yet again the chains break, falling against the mirror and leaving massive cracks in it as they rattle and clank, just before splintering just as they did on the other side.
The girl stirs as the weight slowly is lifted off of her body, her many fingers twitching into life and the wing on her back fluttering gently. She lifts her head, looking strangely more solid than she had in the field and in the hallway.
The black hair slides back to reveal... The fur-covered face of a young puppy. But slowly, the fur starts falling off, her snout growing smaller, eyes wider and with a hint of colour, the first in this curiously monochrome world.
They grow round, humanoid and finally, blue.
And red. One eye is different from the other.
She looks up at the samurai and smiles gently, as the skull seems to merge with her body, like water absorbing a raindrop. "Thank you." She says in a voice like silver bells, a melancholic but beautiful echo to it, as if her voice was coming from a deep, old well.
Her wing flutters, a soft wind blows and grows stronger, until the samurai is suddenly blown back, through a strange, smooth and cool surface, landing him on the mossy ground back in the forest, hooves on deer-legs flailing gently.
The mirror stands stoically in its thicket, reflecting nothing but the forest, as if no hidden world was ever contained within its silver and glass.
There is a tiny, black crack coming down towards the middle.
The giggle is gone.
Eager to oblige the little creature, he dips his head, trying to catch its tail in his mouth. They weave around in tight figure-eights, long, thin legs a jumble, their game punctuated with an occasional bunny-hop.

Mariposa could read "Safe..." but she couldn't quite read the rest. "I like it better here," Mariposa said softly. "I wish you could come with me out of the mirror. You could stay with me forever."
The blackbuck antelope's eyes opened, as if he had just been in a very detailed dream. His head was spinning and he was having a difficult time to his feet, stumbling just slightly.
He looked over to the mirror, tilting his head just slightly. It was such an odd sight for the Forest...but then again he had seen many odd things in this Forest so there wasn't much that shocked him anymore.
But he felt like...
That dream he had, was it real? Why did he feel like he had just done something brave? Why did he feel like he had helped someone he barely knew?
He had a headache, so he turned and walked off. In the corner of his eye, he could have sworn he saw the silhouettes of both a wolf and a man running, but when he looked, they quickly vanished.
He then started to remember something...someone...a man wearing white...what was it about this person? Who were they to Quad?
He couldn't think right at the moment, so he wandered off to the Pond to get a sip of the cooling water. It would take him a long time to realize he had unlocked not only a new transformation form (much like his wolf and tiger forms), but a hidden part of his mind...a past life...
((this was really fun, and I really want to thank you for helping me come up with Quad's human form! I've got quite a bit to work on with him but this really helped me figure out how I'd like to portray him. Thanks again for the roleplay X3))
@bluejay: As she ran the cries got gradually closer and closer, even as the gentle snowfall muted them slightly. The awn sounded like it was in pain, calling for a lost mother... and it was getting rapidly weaker.
But just as the cries started to die out into small, muffled mumbles, that was when she came upon the poor thing!
Small, pure white and buried halfway in the snow, too exhausted to even cry anymore...
@eyestrain: The fawn shrieks in excited joy as the stag accepts the invitation, its soft, little, cloudy body weaving in and out as it tries to keep its tail out if nibble-range, wagging it as it giggles and laughs, in turn nibbling with soft lips at brd's legs whenever the chance presented itself.
They played like that for a while until the fawn, panting, walked up and nuzzled its soft, little cheek against the stag's side affectionately.
Such a gentle, little creature...
The stars seemed closer now...
@Bayleen: The fawn gave a shaky sigh at that and nodded its small head,,burying it in the other's soft hair.
It was trembling softly, as if it was trying to hold back tears...
The shadows in the thicket slowly started deepening...
@Quad: ((You're very welcome, mate, I think it was really fun too! >w< And I'm glad to have been able to help, it was a real treat ^w^))
As soon as she came near to it, amost tripping over the camoflauged creature, she started brushing away the snow. Though not as cold as normal snow it was still enough to make her muzzle numb.
She lay down as close as she could to the fawn and tried to smother it in her body warmth.
She spoke quietly to it, trying to keep it awake, alive. She had no recollection of what she had said afterwards, it was just anything so the little fawn knew she was there for it.
@bluejay: The fawn shivered and slowly came to life; a starved, little thing that looked like it had barely stopped drinking milk.
It whimpered quietly and snuggled closer to her, lifting it face from the snow... To show a perfectly black void, as if some spirit had possessed the empty hide of a fawn.
But it whimpered and shook and seemed so very alive...
Mariposa had not noticed the dark shadows. But her tears seemed to glow, or shine, in the darkness. But her tears were no ordinary tears, it was blood. Tiny, red tears that glimmered. Mariposa held the fawn in a tight embrace.
She half-leapt, half-stumbled away from the fawn, breathing hard. What was that thing!?
She pulled herself together and, trying not to let her voice crack, spoke to it.
"Hello... My name is Zera. Are you okay?"
She examined it further, now more intruiged rather than repulsed and waited. Could it even speak?
@Bayleen: Giving a small, worried whimper, the fawn reached up to wipe her tears away softly with its cheek, leaving a glowing, red stain on its velvet fur, a sharp contrast to its completely black coat.
It gave a shaky sigh and the white words appeared again. "Why are you crying?..."
@bluejay: The fawn shivered and turned its non-face in her direction as she stumbled away, giving a shaky breath. It shambled to its feet, stumbling towards Zera, whimpering lowly, desperately seeking warmth and affection.
It didn't speak... Maybe it couldn't.
Zera stood still and waited for the fawn to touch her. Just like a normal fawn. She shook her head weakly and brushed up against it, trying to heat it up. Surely there was somewhere here where they could get out of the snow!
Though unsure whether the fawn spoke, maybe it could understand.
"Is - is there somewhere... warmer?" She asked gently. Shifting position slightly as if about to make a move.
@eyestrain: And the fawn happily lies down pressed up against him, tiny breath heavy for a moment as its body calms down.
It gives a small giggle and nuzzles into the older stag, seeming so very affectionate and sweet.
Unnoticed by the two, the stars creep closer...
@bluejay: The fawn sobbed and trembled against her. It took a little while, then looked up and towards a certain direction... The shadows among the trees grew restless. White eyes shone hungrily in black faces.
Contented, he rests idly. Though completely unlike the forest, there was enough familiarity to at last become more comfortable. Breathing now peaceful, he gazes out at the huge, dark sky, and for the first time in his life is able to see the stars clearly. Their blinking, glittering light is mystical and bright. He gazes upwards with pleasure.

@eyestrain: noticing his gaze, the fawn follows it.
It blinks and the stars blink with it... like thousands of bright, little watching eyes...
The fawn trembles softly and presses itself up against brd.
It seems afraid...
He looks down to the little creature pressed tightly against him, little tremors running from its body to his own, then back to the flickering, radiant stars, so clear now in his dim eyes. "Good, no?" he asks with an encouraging smile.

@eyestrain: The fawn shivers and presses up against him, hiding its face in his soft, white fur. It looks up, star-eyes big and fearful, but trusting him.
It slowly nods, unsure...
The stars blink with it in pairs of two and two...
@eyestrain: the stars blink erratically in their pairs of two and two, some of them shifting slightly, either as if a cloud had obscured their light... or as if they were moving to get a better look...
The fawn gives a small, worried sound and moves closer to the stag, hiding under his belly, ears laid back.
The stars blink again and shift about... great, ominous shadows on four legs moving about in unison with them...
With a determined gleam in her eye, she set off, all the while keeping the fawn ahead of her. Her mind was set. She was so concrete she didn't notice anything else - not even what hid in the trees.
Where they were going she didn't know but she was certain she and the little creature were going to survive - even if it was a little creepy. C'mon, we gotta get there soon!
@bluejay: The fawn stumbled and shook in front of her, barely keeping its balance and making small, startled noises at the speed at which they were going, but keeping on its four rackety legs that looked like unstable pegs under a dog in this harsh environment.
It cried pathetically in a weak protest at the cold, the pain and the snow, but despite that, they soon made it to a large, black cave, free of snow and shielded from the wind.
The shadows amongst the trees snapped and growled in agitation.
The relief and excitement flooded through her as the cave came into sight. With a very gentle nudge she pushed the fawn into the cave. She went to step in but stopped an turned. Something was out there.
She squinted into the trees to see what was there. Hmm... too far away. She looked back to make sure the fawn was okay. It seemed fine - besides she wouldn't be long. She took a few steps back into the snowy landscape and peered into the trees again. What was there? She couldn't leave the fawn though... She took a few steps towards the forest.
I won't go far... I won't! She manage to promise herself.
Mariposa read the words, but they seemed blurry to her from her watery eyes. "I..I just wish my life would've turned out b-better than it is n-now," Mariposa shakily stuttered. For some reason it made her cry harder. "My prince is nowhere to be found...He's probably dead, or worse, he's moved on."
@bluejay: As she stepped away from the safety of the cave, the fawn gave a weak, pathetic call for her, its voice alarmed. It got up and took a few stumbling steps before collapsing on the floor of the cave, trembling.
Between the trees, the shadows moved ominously...
They seemed to be all around, surrounding the two, bright, white eyes reflecting what little light the snow provided.
They snarled and growled lowly, arching their backs into still more grotesque shapes, now looking like a pack of wolves, now over-sized praying manti...
And they were moving closer...
@Mariposa: The fawn frowned and whimpered silently with her.
It nuzzled her gently, catching her tears and comforting her in its faceless silence. "But there's no use dwelling on the past..." The words said, strangely more blurry than they had been before... As if the immaterial hand writing them was shaking lightly...
The fawn sighed and snuggled into her softly.
She shivered as she looked at the shadows... Something was definately there. She could see them clearly, she could feel them. What kind of beings they were she had no clue but there was definately something predatory about them. And it scared her.
She turned and looked at the fawn in the cave. It wasn't good. She cursed quietly
She took a deep breath and pulled herself to her full height. "Hello... Is there something you want?"
@bluejay17: The shadows growled and snarled in agitation, moving closer in their tight circle, all the while the desperate, little whimpers of the hollow fawn cut through the quiet air as it dragged itself up, trying to stumble towards her.
The shadows howled angrily and suddenly they were upon her; Huge claws supporting beings made out of nothing but flesh and muscle undulating and changing constantly, only barely connected by thin threads of flesh.
But most horrible of all were their faces.
Canine, skinless faces with protruding fangs and blind, white eyes brimming with pus and infection. Great, unmatched jaws snapping at her wildly in cold rage as foam splattered on the white snow, mixing in with infection and blood, leaving horrible splashes in their wake.
The fawn cried desperately.
The animals howled in rage.
@Bayleen: The fawn leaned against her softly. "There's always hope... What about your future?" The words floated almost shapelessly before Mariposa's tearful eyes. The fawn sighed and nestled softly into her long hair, grooming her in an attempt to comfort and calm her down.
It really did everything it could for her...
Gah... so sorry! I've been quite busy recently and haven't been able to update/reply to anything. In fact I only have a little time on this right now so I'll reply a little later =)
Startled by the sudden shifting shadows in his peripheral vision, he braces his limbs for flight, dropping his belly close to the warm and trembling back of the fawn. He swings his head about, seeking a break in the shadows into which they can flee.

The fawn pressed up against him, shivering, trembling, tiny, worried sounds coming from it as the shadows in the sky shift, their star-eyes blinking, squinting, stalking...
The stars move closer, the creatures coming into view as they descent onto the soft, white clouds, great, clawed paws ripping through the fine mist.
Their star-eyes blink.
The fawn trembles.
They slowly close in...
Mariposa closed her eyes tightly...just wanting to dissapear...The only future she could ever hope for is to grow up until she is an old, lonely hag waiting for her death. She held the fawn close to her side and quickly began to drift to sleep.
(Heh, let's call this "the end" for now...Can be interpretted however XDD I'm working on something that kind of tells of her past and how she's doing now...)
She flailed, her mind a muddle. She was unsure whether or not it was her blood flying around, but was also unsure if she wanted to know. The snow had made her body numb and now she couldn't feel anything.
The fawn's noises suddenly snapped to the centre of her attention - a weak, pitiful noise.
And then she was angry. So, very, very angry. A voice in her head, the one she was beginning to know so well was talking to her, yelling at her to kill, To Kill, To KILL. And then, like a snake shedding it's skin, this personality pushed it's way through the barrier Zera always kept up to prevent it from getting out. A blinding light shone from her for a fleeting second and there, in her place was the reflection she had seen in the very beginning. A doe, with a yellow on white pelt.
With a grin, it snarled at it's attackers and began to fight back.
He hesitates for what seems too long, muscles taut but unmoving. The little fawn doesn't move an inch. At last he takes the gamble and his powerful legs send him flying towards the distant trees. Though the action curbs his speed, he looks about, heart racing, to try and find the fawn...

@Bluejay: (Oh, not to worry, I was gone for a while myself anyway XD;)
At the sight of her change and the blinding light, the horrible creatures snarled in fury, drawing back, their sightless eyes stinging and blinded momentarily, their lanky limbs trembling in the snow, skinless muscles twitching as snowflakes fell on them, freezing and burning them at the same time. They howled, writhed and snapped at her as they regained themselves, leaving bloody clawmarks in the snow as they shambled closer yet again, twisted faces sporting broken, infected jaws with big, sharp, yellow teeth in them.
They lunged at her, their otherworldly screams of rage and pain resonating through the woods, only cut short by a sudden, shrill, terrified call from the hollow fawn.
It was standing right next to her.
Facing the things.
It was protecting her.
The howling stopped...
@eyestrain: Giving a startled cry as the stag moves, the fawn freezes for a moment before hurrying after him, the great wolf-creatures on their tree-legs in slow but close pursuit, black paws and black claws leaving holes in the clouds as they patiently catch up.
The fawn cries in fear, its tiny legs not fast enough to keep up with Brd, its star-eyes twinkling as it looks behind it at the great, gaping jaws of the wolves, hidden in the sky below their predatory, starlit eyes.
@Bayleen: (Yup, 'cause by then I imagine this character will be developed enough to work >w<)
The girl stops as soon as she is through the mirror. She looks around, her eyebrows lifting in surprise. She basks in the warm air and sniffs, smelling the sweet scent of flowers that floats in the air. The girl looks quite content just standing there, looking at everything around her.
@010: [Oh, that's okay, mate, I'm just happy you're back now! : D]
And everything around her is truly magnificent; a garden of incomparable beauty in its rough, wilderness-like appearance.
Blooming flowers glow in the soft moonlight as they sway in the gentle breeze on the side of the creek, mirroring themselves in the cool water.
The stars over head shine and twinkle like little diamonds embedded into jet-black velvet and the moon, mirrored from the one in the world the girl came from, is bright enough to provide light for all of this little piece of seemingly heaven on earth.
And something moves... An animal? It rustles through the bushes, getting closer slowly...

She shivered as she looked at
She turned and looked at the fawn in the cave. It wasn't good. She cursed quietly
She took a deep breath and pulled herself to her full height.
"Hello... Is there something you want?"
"But the past," Mariposa
@bluejay17: The shadows
Sooo, any of you gonna

The fawn pressed up against him, shivering, trembling, tiny, worried sounds coming from it as the shadows in the sky shift, their star-eyes blinking, squinting, stalking...
The stars move closer, the creatures coming into view as they descent onto the soft, white clouds, great, clawed paws ripping through the fine mist.
Their star-eyes blink.
The fawn trembles.
They slowly close in...
Mariposa closed her eyes

@Bluejay: (Oh, not to worry,
At the sight of her change and the blinding light, the horrible creatures snarled in fury, drawing back, their sightless eyes stinging and blinded momentarily, their lanky limbs trembling in the snow, skinless muscles twitching as snowflakes fell on them, freezing and burning them at the same time.

@010: [Oh, that's okay, mate,
And everything around her is truly magnificent; a garden of incomparable beauty in its rough, wilderness-like appearance.
