TEF 3.31 Vs. 3.41 *Question*

BlindedHope's picture
I'm still fairly new *cough*Just joined yesterday, so I don't know much about the different versions of TEF. So basically, I was planning a set for my new undecided gender and named character, and I found the white pelt quiet fancy. I did a little research throughout the community, and found out that you can keep the white pelt with some sort of glitch, so that the white pelt doesn't fade off every 2-5 minutes. But the glitch only works in version 3.31 (?). I am willing to switch to my 3.41 version of TEF to 3.31. But I must know what changes will happen, what will I lose? How will the older version be different from the newer one? Will the old version effect my account and gaming experience?

~Thanks

In 3.31 you will not be able

In 3.31 you will not be able to see the newest pictos. They will show up as a blank gold box.
You cannot save your set server-side. This means you will have to download Sluggs' Spellsaver or copy/paste your Preferences file every time you lose your set. (someone else can explain this better |D)
You will have to do the glitch to get the white pelt every time you open the forest, it doesn't save.
Sets are stackable in this version so if you lose one piece of your set, you have to close the forest and copy/paste the preferences file or reload it with Sluggs' Spellsaver. Or get someone to cast it on you again.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps c: Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about the spelldata can explain about that :B

Hmmm, thanks for explaining

Hmmm, thanks for explaining me the changes. But i'll have to stick with 3.41, the steps are too confusing and risky for me. I guess I'll have to think of another set for my unknown character.

I am currently doing the glitch for the devout pelt right now. I do have a blog that explains how to keep the white pelt. Devout Pelt by LeaderofDeers. Just click my name and you should be able to find it.

I personally prefer 3.31. The glitch isn't too complicated, but then again, it's been a while since I've actually used it. Do keep in mind that if you play 3.41, and your computer or game crashes, you will lose your set and have to start all over again. So if you get something that's very rare (i.e. A Luchador mask.), you will either never get it again most likely, or you will have to wait a long while to get it again (In the case of the Skull mask.).

If you're not going to try the glitch, there are two other pelts that can do well in its place; the Long pelt, and the Secretary pelt. The Long pelt is a light grey one, the Secretary is white, but it has prominent black and red markings on it, so that might not appeal to you.

In case you might still want it, here's how I usually save my Spelldata (3.31 only.).

- Get the set you want.
- Exit the game.
- Go to wherever your Program Files folder is kept.
- Go to Tale of Tales.
- Click on The Endless Forest.
- Go to the folder called "userdata."
- Copy the file you see in there.
- Create a new folder wherever you want, label it whatever you want (I called mine "TEF Backup Data Folder"), and paste the data you just copied into it.
-Whenever you want to use that data, simply copy and paste it from your folder into the Userdata folder in The Endless Forest's folder again.

Do keep in mind that if you run the game on a Vista computer, you will have to run the game as an administrator for it to work. To do that, right click on the game's icon on your desktop or start menu, and hit Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, and click "Run this program as an administrator." I'm not sure what you do with an XP computer.

I've never lost spelldata because of a crash in 3.41. The only times I've lost my set is when I've done something stupid like running the same character in two windows and logging out of one without re-loading the set first, lol. Or just flat out saving the wrong set/not loading before logging out/etc.

Every time my computer has

Every time my computer has crashed when playing 3.41, I lost my entire set. I was lucky to have been playing a fawn all of those times, but it was still highly unpleasant coming back to find everything was gone.

Some people don't have this issue, I am aware of that. It's just for me personally, it's happened every single time. Should have reworded what I said, sorry ahaa...
