Meadow; When the stag stopped

Meadow;
When the stag stopped his dancing, Lily thought about. It was sort of hard to tell who's who from under the water. The surface distorts faces and all she can tell is what they are doing. Ears twisted to Ren's voice as he suggested that she should try. The doe looked up to him, " . . . well . . . I could try . ." Lily tapped the earth a few times with her front hoof, then stopped and tapped the ground with her back hoof. A little unsure how to start.

Ren nodded as she began,

Ren nodded as she began, helping her along by humming. "That's good for a start." He moved his right front hoof in a circular motion, tapping his left back hoof at the same time, then switched to his left front and right back. He did another little tap dance, then backed up, and spun on his hind legs, ending with a cross hoofed bow.

"You could try something a little more complicated like that, but you have keep track of where all of you hooves are so you don't trip. But I don't really think there's a wrong way to dance."
Carry's picture

Meadow; The little doe stared

Meadow;
The little doe stared down at her hooves and glanced over to his. Swimming was a lot more her speed and style . . . tho she didn't want to seem ungrateful for him trying to teach her. Tapping her front hooves at a steady beat. One two one two one two, slow at first. Then, adding her back hooves, tapping at the opposite beat. Two one two one two. "Hmm . . ." Her tail twitched, but kept out of the way. Lily's 'dancing' was nothing impressive . . that was for sure. She looked so awkward, but he being insurer about herself didn't help. Slowly, she came to a stop, ears dropped down. "I'm sorry . . ." She felt ridiculous.
Meadows's picture

Ren watched her for a while,

Ren watched her for a while, looking up when she ceased and spoke. "No it's fine, it's just takes practice. The whole point is just to have fun away." He thought of something, then his ears lowered slightly and he looked concerned. "That is, unless you don't like it." He tried to remind himself that not everyone was interested in dancing. He shifted his hooves nervously.
Carry's picture

Meadow; Lily looked up to

Meadow;
Lily looked up to Ren. She didn't mean for him to be upset-ed by her slight disinterest for dancing. The little doe was just unsure of herself. Swirling her hoof around in the dirt for a moment, Lily spoke up. " . . . I do, I do. It's just new . . . that's all." Long tail twisted around her hind leg for a moment, giving the stag a reassuring smile as best as she could. Just then, a snowflake landed on the doe's nose. Cold and tiny, she blinked and looked up into the gloomy sky. Snow was beginning to fall again.
Meadows's picture

Ren felt himself breathe a

Ren felt himself breathe a small sigh of relief, and smiled back at her. "That good. I mean, I suppose it would be alright if you didn't... But I'm glad you do." He saw Lily blink and look into the sky, and the stag followed her gaze, only to feel a slight chill as one of the snow flurries landed and melted in his ear. It twitched automatically in response to the unwelcome flake.

"You probably don't have to deal with snow underwater do you." He half asked, half stated. It must be nice in the pond this time of year, as Lily had claimed it didn't really get very cold once the ice formed.
Carry's picture

Meadow; The doe looked to the

Meadow;
The doe looked to the pond, tiny ripples formed from the snowflakes dancing down to its surface. The stags questions made her think. Yes, it was warmer in the depth and sheltered pond at this time of the year . . . yet. "You are right . . . but this winter I will not be spending it in the pond . . ." Long tail swayed behind her and ears twitched as snow slowly began to fall a bit faster. Soon their backs would be covered in a thin blanket of white. Lily was truly considering it, staying above. Yet, ether way she was 'traped' for the winter.
Meadows's picture

Ren looked back down at her,

Ren looked back down at her, surprised. "You won't?" If he could retreat into the pond all winter, safe under the ice, he probably would. But then... The stag reconsidered. He might miss certain deer, dancing, being free to go wherever he wished. And he began to wonder if Lily was thinking along the same lines.

"Why, what's different this year?"
Carry's picture

Meadow; Lily nodded, the doe

Meadow;
Lily nodded, the doe was sure this year. ". . . well, I've made a friend and met other deer . . ." Her ears fell back a little, thinking of what it would be like under the water for the winter. The fish were quite this time of year and the frogs were asleep. This never bothered the doe before, yet after having real conversations for once, she would be sad to kept quite in her water. "And, I can't leave the pond once the surface is frozen . . . nether can I enter it." Lily looked over to Ren. "And . . . I was thinking of . . . exploring the forest . . . for once." Hoof tapped the earth lightly.
Meadows's picture

Only once Lily had said it,

Only once Lily had said it, did it really sink in. The choice she had to make, and whatever she chose she was stuck with until next year, and a form of entrapment either way. "I see." She didn't seem too upset by this though, he noted, Lily seemed sure of her decision. And of course if she stayed above ground, that meant he could possibly see her more often. Cheered by this thought, he began to think of all the new things he could show her, just like she hadn't known what dancing was.

He shook his fur lightly, to rid himself of clinging snow. "That's great, about you making friends and meeting deer. And, of course getting to explore the forest. My favorite place is still the pond, but there are some other great places as well- Maybe I could show you around."
Carry's picture

Meadow; The little pond doe

Meadow;
The little pond doe watched some of the last birds that left for the warmer climate take to the sky. Wide green eyes watched, till they disappeared over the trees. Lily didn't mean to seem like a 'airhead' or something along those lines, she just hadn't spent much time looking elsewhere besides the water. Pointed ears twitched and faced the stag, hearing him. Long tail shock, ridding it of the snow. "Hmmm . . . you would do that?" Head titled to the side, long green hair fell to the side, but the lily-pad stayed still.
Meadows's picture

Ren stared at the lily pad on

Ren stared at the lily pad on her head for a moment, wondering how it could stay put so well, and if she ever needed to replace it, then lowered his gaze to her face, smiling. "Of course. Besides, I haven't been away from the pond in a while myself." He thought of all the places he could show Lily, the ruins, the playground... Oh, and she'd probably like the Drink De'Plats.
Carry's picture

Meadow; A soft smile crossed

Meadow;
A soft smile crossed the lips of the green doe. "Well, that is very kind of you." She looked past the freezing pond and to the trees with their white branches. Long tail swayed from side to side, not sure why he hadn't left the area around the pond; but she didn't feel the need to ask. "Is it true . . . there are deer you should avoided?" Lily asked, remembering what the lion stag told her.
Meadows's picture

It's no problem." The stag

It's no problem." The stag replied cheerfully, dancing slightly on his hoof-tips. At her next question however he sobered, and considered. "Well, yes... I've heard that there are some you should probably stay away from. I haven't really met many myself though.."

He didn't want to scare her, so he continued on a more optimistic note. "I'm sure you'll be fine though, I think most of the deer here are actually pretty friendly. And you've got me to protect you." Ren couldn't help but add.
Carry's picture

Meadow; The doe took in the

Meadow;
The doe took in the steps her took, noting how easy them seem to come to him. His reply caused her ears to droop, so it was true? Yet, his reassurance did help. Looking to the masked stag, then looked to the forest. ". . . thank you Ren." Lily cooed softly, glad she has been so fortunate to have met such kind and nice deer so far. Once the snow slowed to only a couple snowflakes falling every now and then, the green doe shook off her body. The soft white fell to her hooves. ". . . ummm, could we go to those large white rocks? That have faces on them . . . I think?" Speaking softly, then looking to the rocks that were the Twin Gods statues. She has only seen them from a distance and was curious . . . plus the pond would still be in view.
Meadows's picture

Ren followed her gaze to the

Ren followed her gaze to the twin statues on the hill, and thought it seemed like a good place to start. And it was still kind of nearby. "Alright, follow me." He started off a brisk pace, then slowed to wait for Lily. "Those are the statues of Michael and Auriea, you've heard of them haven't you? And if you show your respect properly, you turn white! I'll show you how when we get there."
Carry's picture

Meadow; The little doe nodded

Meadow;
The little doe nodded and followed the stag up the hill. His passe was a little fast for her, so she was glad when he slowed down. Those two names sounded familiar to the pond deer, but she couldn't recall from where from; so she just nodded softly. "White? . . . like the snow?" Eyes wide, unsure how that was possible . . . but then again, some deer became frogs if they fell into the pond on accident. As they went up the hill, Lily gazed back to the freezing pond. She had never been this far away from it before.

{It's fine (: }

"Snow? Oh yeah... I never thought of it like that, but that's a good description. And yes it does. It only lasts for a while, although I've seen some deer who've figured out how to make it permanent." He noticed her looking back to pond, and wondered if she was feeling homesick. It was her home after all, literally. Most deer didn't really have homes besides the whole forest, perhaps some places where they more regularly spent their time, but Lily had never even been far from her pond.
Carry's picture

Meadow; The doe nodded, now

Meadow;
The doe nodded, now curious to this 'being white' thing. Little thoughts popped in her mind. Would it hurt? Exactly how long did it last? And among other things. As the reached the statues, Lily stood in awe. They were very beautiful. "Where did they come from?" She asked, looking over to Ren, eyes wide in wounder. Walking around them, she took in their size and appearance.
Meadows's picture

Ren watched her, pleased by

Ren watched her, pleased by her reaction, and then looked at the statues himself as Lily voiced her question. "Where did they come from...? Hmm, where did they come from..." He frowned, mentally reprimanding himself for never having thought of that himself. Just like he had never considered where the bridge came from, or the ruins.

"You know, I'm not actually sure. They've just... Always been here. At least as long as anyone can remember."
Carry's picture

Meadow; She stopped at what

Meadow;
She stopped at what he had said. "Really? . . . wow" Ears perked up high above her lilypad hat and stopped back in front of the statue with the stag as she gazed onto it. The stone it was carved from was so pure looking, such a gleaming white. ". . . they are truly beautiful." She had never seen such a sight. Her tail twitched around behind her slowly before looking up to Ren..
Meadows's picture

They really were, Ren

They really were, Ren thought, still staring at them an the delicate carvings that adorned them. He had never really them appreciated much. And Lily's curiosity had stirred his own. Where had they come from? He didn't see how a deer could make anything like that. "Yeah, they are." He then noticed Lily looking at him, and returned her gaze for a second, then blinked. "Oh, the white pelt!"

He scratched at the ground, to signal her to watch him, and bent down in front of the statue for a minute. Slowly, a blue haze started to gather around him, and then his markings vanished. His already mostly white pelt brightened, the color of snow. He straightened up, beaming at Lily. "See?
Carry's picture

Meadow; The doe stared as Ren

Meadow;
The doe stared as Ren walked over before the white statues and bowed down to them, watching intensely once the strange blue haze appeared. She was wide eyed and in wounder as the black and red markings on his pelt just disappeared and left him as white as the snow that fell from the sky. Lily walked over to him, circling him. It did just as he said. "And all you need to do is bow to the statues?" The green doe asked as she then walked over to them in awe.
Meadows's picture

The stag nodded. "Basically,

The stag nodded. "Basically, it takes about a minute. It's a- gift I think. They call it the devout pelt." Speaking of gifts... Ren thought of something else, something maybe Lily had witnessed from the pond. "Have you ever seen an Abiogenesis? It's when Michael and Auriea visit, and all sorts of amazing things happen- I've never seen one myself though. I guess I go to sleep at all the wrong times..." He trailed off, watching her to see if she would try to get the devout pelt as well.
Carry's picture

Meadow; She listened to him

Meadow;
She listened to him as she stood in-front of the twin statues. Was it really that easy? An abino what? Looking over her shoulder at him, she shrugged. "I'm not . . . sure really." As she turned back, the doe thought for a moment. It would only turn her white . . . nothing more and nothing less. Taking a deep breath, she shut her green eyes tightly and bowed down. She only peaked out to see the blue haze, but shit them again still bowing. After a moment, the doe stood up and opened her eyes, turning to look at Ren then looking down at her legs. She gasped. ". . . Oh my! It . . . it worked." The little doe was amazed.
Meadows's picture

Ren watched her at she bent

Ren watched her at she bent over, her eyes closed tightly, seeming almost apprehensive. It didn't take long for the blue to appear, and then she turned white. White as a water lily actually. She got to her hooves, expressing her amazement and he smiled. "I told you it would. Look, now we match!" He danced a little, hopping in a tight circle, excited to show her the rest of the forest.
Carry's picture

Meadow; It did work, and she

Meadow;
It did work, and she was truly amazed at the fact that those beautiful statues could do such a thing as transforming a deers pelt to a simple white. Seeing the stag dance made the little 'now white' doe giggle softly. Twirling slightly, letting her tail glide in the air for a moment. Even her hair, that was a deep green - like the back of a frog - was a soft pearl color. Looking over to Ren, she smiled. "Well . . . almost. You don't have a long tail and I don't have antlers." Walking over past him, she gazed around the forest from the hill they were upon, also grazing over to the pond as well.
Meadows's picture

Ren watched as Lily made,

Ren watched as Lily made, what he thought was a most excellent twirl, delighted to see her so happy. Most of the deer in the forest were well used to the albino pelt, and not nearly as excited by it as she seemed to be. He nodded at her words, looking over his own back to see his tail, which was a great deal shorter than hers and chuckled. "Well yeah, there is that."

He started looking out over the forest as well, lingering on the pond. He could just barely spot the Great Oak in the distance. "Where do you want to go next?"
Carry's picture

Meadow; She walked past him

Meadow;
She walked past him and gazed around as far as her eyes could let her see. What else did she want to check out? Hmmmm. Then in the distance, she spotted something large. "Umm . . . what is that large . . . tree?" Head titled slightly. It was a very large tree, from what she could tell. But she never knew trees could grow to such a size. Ears twitched as she looked back to Ren, then thinking about the white pelts, wondering how long they last before gazing back to the large tree.
Meadows's picture

Without even bothering to

Without even bothering to check, he was pretty sure he knew where she was looking, Ren responded. "That, is the Great Oak. It's the biggest tree in the whole forest!" He was about to continue, telling her how you could go inside it and the deep humming noise it made when you were around it, but then changed his mind. He would let her see and hear for herself. "We should probably go there next. Want to?"
Carry's picture

Meadow; Lily nodded to the

Meadow;
Lily nodded to the stag. She was interested in seeing this tree. Taking a step forward, she slowly made her way down the hill that the statues sat upon. Long tail swayed side to side as the white from her pelt faded and she was many shades of green once again. "Yes . . . I think so, yeah." The green doe looked back to the pond, it was still in her line of sight, just very small now.
Meadows's picture

As the white began to leave

As the white began to leave Lily's fur, Ren glanced over his shoulder at his own back, where the markings had returned without him noticing. Oh well. "Great, it's this way- oh. But I guess you can see that." He started walking towards the gargantuan tree visible in the distance, small patches of snow crunching under his hooves.
Carry's picture

Meadow; As they neared the

Meadow;
As they neared the tree, Lily was beginning to feel very small. It was a lot taller then it looked from over next to the twin statues; that was for sure. She slowed her pace, looking up to the Oak. Yes, she was small indeed. Ears pinned back a little, taking a few breaths as she looked over to Rin. "Well . . . this tree must be . . . must be as old as the entire forest." Head titled a bit as she slowly walked around it; tail swaying side to side. "Is that . . . a hole?" Lily spotted a large hole in the side of the tree, walking closer. She stepped into a few piles of snow, breath like a fog.
Meadows's picture

As they approached the Great

As they approached the Great Oak, Ren noticed that Lily's ears pinned back as she looked up at the tree. It was impressively large... And perhaps a little intimidating if seeing it for the first time. He hoped Lily wasn't intimidated by it's size. Or the mysterious humming that seemed to emanate from it. He contemplated the oak, then Lily spoke. "Must be. Maybe even older! It's bigger than every tree in here." He followed her as she circled the tree, waiting for her to discover the best thing about the tree.
Carry's picture

Meadow; Maybe even older?

Meadow;
Maybe even older? That would be truly extraordinary for sure. As she circled the tree, the opening was soon before both of them. Lily gasped, moving closer at a slow pace. The soft humming was a bit strange, but the forest did make many sounds. "Oh my . . ." She looked back to Rin for a moment before she stepped into the tree. It seemed so much large inside, and it smelt of many other deer too. She looked up, gazing around her. So many interesting things that have been in this forest, and she knew nothing of any of it.
Meadows's picture

"It is amazing isn't it." Ren

"It is amazing isn't it." Ren stated, looking around for himself with new sense of wonder. Perhaps he was absorbing some of Lily's sense of discovering new and spectacular things, things he had never really paid that much attention to. Besides the pond that is. And that was the thing Lily was familiar and at home with.

To his satisfaction it looked like no snow had managed to creep in, the ground was dry, and filled with the indistinct hoof prints from all the deer who had tread here. The wood around him seemed strong and safe, despite it's age, and few fallen oak leaves still lingered in corners.
Carry's picture

Meadow; The green doe was

Meadow;
The green doe was truly taken away. Standing still for a moment as it all sunk in. Almost three years alone. Never seeing such a beautiful place that was just a walk away from the pond. Ears ears dropped, letting out a long breath. This forest had so much to offer her . . . and she spent a chunk of her life hiding. If Rin looked, he might notice her eyes a little moist, but she pushed back the tears. "What else is there to see?" The doe asked softly, turning back to the stag, tail swaying softly.
Meadows's picture

The stag didn't look at her

The stag didn't look at her until she spoke, coming out of his thoughts and missing any would-be tears. "Well, there's the ruins, the playground and the drink de'plats. Those last two are in the birch forest- Have you ever even seen the birch forest? Oh, and you have to try the blueberries in the blue bowl! Have you ever been to the crying idol? It's right by the pond, up the stream.." Ren ceased his rush of words with an apologetic smile.
Carry's picture

Meadow; Keeping her tears at

Meadow;
Keeping her tears at bay, she shook her head softly. "I'm afraid not."Finding his question a tad silly, after all. She did say she had never left the pond . . . so asking if she had been to all those places seemed to answer itself. The doe walked past Rin, looking back outside as a couple snowflakes fell. "Hmmm . . . I've never went up the steam before. Could we go there?" Voice soft as she asked.
Meadows's picture

"Really? I guess you wouldn't

"Really? I guess you wouldn't have, the water is shallower up there, and it goes on a ways from the pond." Ren paused to get his bearings better, then gestured with his foreleg. "It's this way." He added cheerfully, starting off diagonally towards the stream, which brought them back closer to the cliff side of the pond.
Carry's picture

Meadow; Lily nodded softly. A

Meadow;
Lily nodded softly. A little thrill in her heart about the news that going back twords the pond. The doe followed after Rin as he left the tree and was heading back to the pond. Once they arrived, she gazed around to the opening of the steam. "Hmmm . . .".
Meadows's picture

Ren briefly looked over the

Ren briefly looked over the pond as they neared, then turned his gaze back to the stream. He wondered what Lily's hmmm had meant. A good hmmm or a bad hmmm? Hmmm, he was probably reading too much into it. A stone bridge spanned the entrance, and he hopped over it, then back to Lily.

"You've probably seen this before though, from the pond. The crying idol is up there, just follow the stream." And he did just that, walking along the side of it towards a stone statue larger than the average deer that could just be seen in the distance.
Carry's picture

Meadow; Lily gazed down into

Meadow;
Lily gazed down into the stream. Feeling a little closer to home just because it was there.As Ren walked past the stone bridge, she fallowed quickly behind him seeing the statue coming into view. So many strange things in this forest, but all in a good way. The green doe walked past the stag, gazing to the crying-idol. "It looks so sad . . ." The tears of this statue . . . filled her home. Walking the water flower from its eyes, she looked back to the stag. "Is it a stature of someone?" Head titled to the side.
Meadows's picture

Ren stepped the poppies, then

Ren stepped the poppies, then stopped in front of the statue, and the doe walked pasted him. The water looked so clear, the tears of the statue were twin waterfalls. But it did look sad, he had to agree with Lily. He wondered why it had been made like that, if it had been made at all. His eyes drifted to the side, where he had been born and first entered the forest, several years ago.

His ears twitched, and he looked up at Lily in front of him, and shook his head. "Not that I know of at least."
Carry's picture

Meadow; The green doe titled

Meadow;
The green doe titled her head slightly when he said he wasn't sure. Walking closer to the idol, Lily lightly touched it with her nose. Following its sad gaze down the stream, past the bridge and to the pond. It probably wouldn't mean much to others, but Lily was a sensitive flower. She swam in tears since day one . . . and she even contributed many tears in those years of her life. Letting out a soft sigh, the doe looked over to Ren.

The flowers he stood by caught her eye. "Oh my, those as very pretty. I think . . . i think I've seen fawns wear flowers like these on their heads . . ." She remarked. Leaning down, she took in their scent. Soft and sweet.
Meadows's picture

Ren couldn't figure out what

Ren couldn't figure out what was going through the mind of the doe before him. He watched, puzzled as she brushed up against the idol, and his ears just caught the sound of sigh. Lily didn't seem nearly as excited or cheerful as she had been at the twin statues, but he wasn't sure why. Was it just because the statue was crying? His ears lowered slightly, and an anxious expression crossed his face.

But then she turned, and having caught sight of the bright red flowers seemed to brighten. "Those are poppies, they're scattered all through out the forest. Some deer like to wear them. There are also purple flowers too, but I'm not sure what they're called."
Carry's picture

Meadow; The doe took another

Meadow;
The doe took another lung full of their lovely aroma. After a moment, Lily realized she probably was seeming like a downer. Ears twitched, looking over to the stag. "Ren . . . I'm really sorry if . . . if I don't seem like I'm having . . . fun." She walked away from the idol. "Is there another place you'd like to show me . . . or ummm . . ." The doe nibbled her lower lip, voice soft and timid. She didn't want to seem ungrateful, but she did feel a tad out of place still. What was wrong with her?
Meadows's picture

She seemed as if she was

She seemed as if she was apologizing to him. Alarmed Ren shook his head, tripping over his words as he tried to explain. "No, you don't have to be sorry, I just- I just umm, don't mind, I'm just worried, that you're not having fun?" That was a question, he had confused himself into repeating what Lily had initially stated. "What I'm trying to say is, I'm only worried that you might be upset."

Did that make sense? Ren didn't want her to feel obligated to have fun because of him, but he didn't want to somehow inadvertently sadden her. But he couldn't seem to articulate words to communicate that thought. "Ummm, sure. How about the birch forest? We're right near the edge of it. It has the Drink De'plats and the playground." The stag wondered why he felt so unsure and dependent on what Lily might say next, it was an uncharacteristic feeling.
Carry's picture

Meadow; Ears perked as the

Meadow;
Ears perked as the stag seemed to say many things quickly. He worried she wasn't having fun and she was worried she looked like she wasn't. Well, how funny was that? Maybe not so much. As he mentioned the birch forest and the things in it she quickly nodded to him. "That sounds like . . . a plan." The green doe walked over and past Ren as he motioned to the trees ahead. Her tail barely grazed the edge of the water before she walked away from it. ". . . and umm, Ren. Thank you."
Meadows's picture

"You're welcome. And... Thank

"You're welcome. And... Thank you too." As soon as he said it, he wasn't sure why he had. Ren just felt grateful towards her, but he hoped she wouldn't ask him to elaborate. He trotted towards the birch forest, eager to find some place that wouldn't be as upsetting. "We can go to the blue bowl first, that's closest I think." As he neared the tree line he slowed, looking back at Lily.

The birch forest was different from where they had come from, that was for sure. Tall and thin, nearly white trees with dark markings towered above the forest floor. With the sparser foliage, the ground was more evenly covered in snow then other places, and despite overcast skies, more rays of sunlight were scattered throughout.
