Meadow;
Creeping out from the depth of the pound, the green doe shivered lightly. It was that time of the year again. The cold of the winter was coming and soon she would have to make a chose again. To stay in the pound, under the frozen surface and breath from a crack or stay above and face the snow and winds? Always a simple question, for she would always spend her winter trapped in the pound, yet this time . . she had begun to meet others. Get to know others. Lily signed. "Do you know what I should do?" She cooed at a frog that sat on the log. Soon even he would go away for the winter and sleep in the earth. It replied with a ribbit, then hopped away.
Making her way to the shore, Lily took in the sight around her. The great trees were beginning to shed their leaves and the ground was spotted with white snow. Even the weeping willow was beginning to go bare, yet she still went under it's branches and rested. Hoping she would figure out soon.
The stag smiled, "Thanks," he
Waning-Sun; Lily looked to
Lily looked to the wall of trees as well. She never did think much of them, beside the willows that were close to the edges of her pond. The world in the forest, past the trees, was foreign to her. Leo's comment perked her ears. So, you did need to avoid some still. It didn't surprise her none to much, after all. Nothing is perfect. "Do you have to avoid others?" Lily titled her head to the side, glaceing up to Leo; who was only a little bit taller then her. She didn't mean to pry, if she was. She was only curious.
A jolt of cold hit Ren's
He didn't like it. Winter in general that is. He preferred the warm sunshine of Spring and Summer, when the pond was a cool and refreshing break to the heat. Instead it would freeze, barring him for another year. There was always Ice-skating, but any deer could do that. And of course it was getting colder. Something that apparently everyone else was aware of, the pond was practically deserted at the moment.
Almost... He narrowed his eyes, peering down to the shoreline, where he was certain he could see a figure resting under one of the other willows. Forgetting the chilling winds and the promise of a frozen pond, he started down the hill, half hopping. He was a naturally social creature, and was always eager to meet new deer, and disliked being alone or venturing beyond the pond.
He neared the other deer, and slowed to a walk, careful not to alarm them- her. She was a doe, and he paused, fascinated. She looked as if she had just emerged from the pond, even wearing a lily pad upon her head. "Hello, who are you?"
Meadow; The green doe lifted
The green doe lifted her tail up, shaking it a few times to dry it as best as she could. Almost forgetting that water can get pretty cold in this weather. She wasn't use to being outside and above the waters surface; tho she probably should get use to it. Or, at least try. Lily thought back to when she met Ced and Leo, they were both rather kind to her and she would like to meet up with them again. So, staying above an option. For if she did go under the water before it froze over, she would be stuck there till Spring. "Hmmm . . ." Ears twitched to a sound. Before she could turn her head, a voice surprised the doe. A deer was coming closer from down the hill and greeted her.
Little Lily hoped up to her hooves, a little startled. "Oh . . . hi . . . ummm." Wide eyes blinked a few times. Taking a deep breath, remembering to calm and stay calm. "Lily . . . my name. Ummm, my name is Lily." Warmth filled her face under her fur.
The doe got up, seeming
"I'm Ren." He smiled at her, shifting his hooves.
Meadow; Bright moss eyes
Bright moss eyes blinked. "Oh, thank you . . ." Pointed ears twitched and slid from side to side. It wasn't his fault after all, that she looked so skittish. The doe had always been that way. Hearing the bucks name, she said it out loud, testing it. Like she did everyone's names that she met for the first time. "Ren . . . Ren. It's nice to meet you . . . Ren." His name was short and soft, something she was sure to remember. Standing up, Lily lightly shook the last of the water from her. Tiny droplet of ice had already formed.
Ren tilted his head, curious.
Meadow; Lily glanced to the
Lily glanced to the water, already seeing the fish slow down in their movements. All the tadpoles were gone and frost covered the log. Her gaze moved back over to the buck, nodding lightly. He guessed right; if he came a few moments earlier, he probably would have seen her walk out of the pond. Long tail swayed to her side, before resting loose on the cold earth.
Ren turned his blue-green
"Do you spend a lot of time around the pond? It's great isn't it." That was more of a statement then a question, his affection for the place was clear.
Meadow; A shy chuckle slipped
A shy chuckle slipped past her muzzle. Tho, not to much to notice. "You can say that . . ." Lily glanced up to Ren as she moved to lean against the weeping willows trunk. Her small form didn't even seem to be noticed by the tree, as if she was just a bird perking on a branch. The green doe nodded to his comment. He was right tho, the pond was lovely. She couldn't image any other place she would rather spend her time. Even if she only ever did spend her time here.
The stag didn't appear to
"You remind me of her. It. The pond anyway, you know, if it was a deer."
Meadow; Her head titled at
Her head titled at his comment. Going somewhere else in the winter would probably be something she might have to do as well. There wasn't much shelter next to the pound. She looked up to the wall of trees, wondering which one was an oak. "Hmmm?" If the pond was a deer? Lily blinked a little, looking back over to the pond; sort of seeing what he meant? Sort of. The water was green, water lily-pads floated on the surface and it was quite. Come to think of it, maybe that's why she hid so well in the pond. The doe looked over to her reflection at the edge of the pond. "I can sort of . . . see what you mean." Tail twitched.
He watched her peer into the
Meadow; As she looked at
As she looked at herself in the pond, she saw Red looking at himself as well. Each deer looked like their own; unlike fish and frogs, which all seem to look alike. Talk to koi? Lily turned her head to the stag. Taking in what he said, her face was frozen for a second; until a flood of soft giggled escaped from her. Nothing to wild, just soft and little. Like herself. "Fish can't talk, at least not like deer. If you mean, can I understand what they try to say? Well, of course. They are . . . my neighbors after all . . ." She turned away and gazed back into the pond. "Ether way tho . . they are far to cold to 'say' much this time of the year." Lily's ears drooped a little, letting out a cloud of warm air.
The giggling caught him by
Meadow; Lily calmed herself,
Lily calmed herself, looking back over to Ren as he seem to understand what she meant. The fish in the pond didn't seem to 'say' much anyway. They only seem to care about the weather, how much food there is to go around and when the next spawning day will be. Tho, they did seem to be hinting of things coming from the pond besides little Lily. Yet, that was just fish talk. "It's actually not that cold under the water once the ice has formed. The pond never freezes completely, only the top layer." Her ears twitched, glancing back to Ren.
Leo laughed, "Avoid them? Not
His ears swiveled, fully
Waning-Sun; The little doe
The little doe blinked. She looked Leo up and down, sort of getting an eye of why some avoided him. Taking note in the sharp claws on his hooves and his smile. ". . hmmm." Little Lily didn't seem to catch on right away, then it sunk in. Hunt. "Oh . . . well good thing I'm not a rabbit huh?" She chuckled weakly. Not good at jokes ether. Surprise surprise. Long tail twitched. "Tho . . . I don't see how that could be so bad . . . after all. Some of the fish in the pond eat the smaller ones . . ." Her head cocked to the side.
Meadow;
The green doe's face grew warm underneath from embarrassment. He didn't now did she . . . she always assumed because each deer she had met so far already saw her. Little Lily lowered her head a bit to the cold earth. "Because . . . I spent my life . . . in the pond." Her ears twitched, feeling a little ashamed now that it was true. She was the deer of the pond. Algae green eyes watched the stag. ". . . the pond . . is my home. Long tail laid limp.
He snorted. "I don't eat
She looked uncomfortable, and
Wanding-Sun; Lily blinked.
Lily blinked. "Oh . . ." She glanced over to the pond, seeing the silhouette of a fish swim by the shore. They were pretty fast swimming, that was for sure. If she spooked them, even in the slightest, the water around her would be empty. Lily looked back to Leo. "I'm sorry . . . for assuming. Ears drooped to the sides.
Meadow;
The green doe held still as Ren asked her question after question, adding onto the one before each. When he went quite, all the little doe could do was nod. Meeting his gaze nervously. She remember the last time someone questioned her in such a way, it didn't end well. Lily only hoped he wouldn't dislike her now . . . or even hate her for being different.
She just nodded, as she had
"How?" One simple question. He had never thought it possible, but here was a doe who said she lived in the pond somehow, sometimes even in winter when it was frozen over. It didn't even occur to him that she might not be telling the truth.
Meadow; Ears perked at his
Ears perked at his statement, slightly caught off guard. Amazing? Lifting her head up, the little green doe stared at the stag. She didn't expect him to think that . . . but he did seem to like the pond a whole lot . . so it sort of made sense? She relaxed a little bit, tho she wasn't sure how to answer his question. How? Lily thought about it, glancing to the pond. "To tell the truth, I'm not sure. I've always lived in the pond . . . since I was . . . a fawn." The doe thought back, the pond was where the adults found her. Thinking she fell in and trying to clean her up. Only to find she wasn't dirty at all. She was green and small.
Ren watched her reactions,
He had often imagined living in the pond before, being able to swim down to the depths when ever he liked, talking to the koi and greeting deer from the shallows, seeing their surprised faces. He even, if he was honest with himself, felt somewhat envious of the doe from the pond.
Meadow; Her pointed ears
Her pointed ears twitched to the sides a bit. "Actually . . no I haven't." The green doe has always stayed by the pond, never going past the opening in the trees and hills. She hasn't even ventured up to the twin statues before, only looking at them from a distance. "I've . . . never found a reason to leave. It's safe . . . by the waters edge." Long tail curled around one of her hind legs. Wide green eyes gaze into the water, then to Ren. His reaction was new to her. He seemed almost in aww of her living in the pond.
Ren thought about this for a
Meadow; Her mouth hung open
Her mouth hung open for a moment, taking in what he had to ask. Tho, she was able to answer them at least. "Umm . . . not that I know of, tho I did meet a doe from the sea . . . and ummm, yes. It can get pretty dark. If it's night or a gloomy day, I can't see to far infront of me . . ." Lily had to sit down. This was an offal lot of talking for her. The green doe rested her rump on the cool ground. " . . . ummm, well the fish and frogs, some turtles." Lily blinked for a moment, the pound was rather empty when she thought about it.
"You have nothing to be sorry
Waning-Sun; As Leo grew
As Leo grew quite, the doe thought to herself. Being quite was something Lily was rather good at and just sat down, looking into the pond. The cold was coming and soon it was freeze over. She glanced at the buck for a moment. "If it means anything, your one of the few to be kind to me . . . and I'm truly . . . grateful for it." Tail twitched and curled around herself.
Ren sat down with her, and
"Does anyone else know?" He winced slightly, another question. "Sorry."
Meadow; Lily took in a deep
Lily took in a deep breath, letting out the puff of air from her lungs. His questions weren't to bad. She did rather prefer them over harsh words and comments after all. Long tail twitched. His last question made her chuckled lightly, nothing to strong. "Only a few really, those who I've met. Most probably have forgotten me since . . . I was small. Lily's ears twitched, and the lily upon her head shifted to as she moved her ears.
"And you me," Leo replied
Waning-Sun; A little smile
A little smile formed on her muzzle, nodding. This was a nice end to a simple day, Lily was glad she was opening up to other deer. Letting out a long breath, a warm cloud left her mouth as the air around them cooled.
-
so sad, cause he's gonna forget her.
;-;
Ren's fur puffed up slightly,
Meadow; She smiled softly,
She smiled softly, liking the comment of not seeing why someone would forget her. The doe shrugged a little, looking past the pond and to the trees on the other side. " . . . I . . . not really. Those who did . . . put me back." As she thought about it, the green doe grew quite. She wasn't a fan of her past and didn't like to think much on the topic. Maybe that's why she never left the pond? Who knows.
"They... put you back?" Ren
"What sort of things do you do underwater?"
Meadow; As her mind drafted
As her mind drafted away for a moment, Lily just stared into the trees. That was what they sort of did. Found her, thought she fell int the pond. Realized that was not it, and what she looked like what was she looked like. No dirt or muck, she looked like the pond . . . if it was a deer. Putting her back was easy, keeping her in there was easy. Lily stopped trying to leave, they stopped remembering her. The voice of Ren brought her back. What did she do in the water? "Hmmm?" The green doe looked back to the stag. "Well . . . I usually follow the fish around, and when the frogs lay eggs . . . I egg-sit for them. Seeing as the fish like to eat the frog eggs, I try to keep the peace at times . . . tho sometimes nature wins over in the end." Ears twitched and faced twords Ren.
He thought about that,
Meadow; His next question
His next question caught her way off. Dance? The doe titled her head to the side and stared at him. "Ummm . . . I'm afraid I'm not familiar . . . with this action of 'dancing'." And she was serious, after all. She was living in a pond her whole life. Green eyes blinked a few times; thinking of what this dancing must be. It sounded sort of familiar when she thought out it . . . but from where?
For a second Ren just stared
So he got to his hooves, and began moving them. Sort of like a four legged tap dance, each hoof making a muffled sound against the chilled earth. He hummed as he danced, a tune almost every deer and fawn in the forest knew. He was surprisingly light on his hooves, moving them forward and backward and sideways.
Meadow; The little green doe
The little green doe stared at the tall stag as he got up, trying to show what dancing was. Once he began, the act became familiar in her mind. She had seen other deer do this movement in the forest, behind the trees. Some even did it on the shores of the pond. The humming sound was like the sounds they would make as well, but just a little different for each deer. Lily nodded to Ren, "I've seen . . some do this before . . ." Standing up, to watch the stag. Looking to his hooves, as they tapped over the cold earth beneath them both. He looked so light and quick moving.
"I thought maybe you had,
