I recently went to the aviary in my city, and was surprised to see a lot of new stuff since the last time I'd been there, including a free-flight raptor show on the roof, which of course I had to see I just feel like sharing the photos and videos, they really are interesting, and since a few people have bird characters I figure its not completely off-topic, hehe xD Photos and video below the cut:
Video from the Lanner falcon hunting demo(Its "over" around 0:31, unless you want to listen to the rest of the trainer's monologue while staring at peoples' backs xD):
Video of the black kites, also demonstrating hunting style(one of these literally swooped down to a few inches above my head. o___o)
Shot of the falcon as the trainer walked around with her
Surabi, the black vulture-
She jumped up onto my bench and started sunning herself xD Best photo opp ever
Minnie, a crow trained to take paper money and put it into the donation box she sits on.
This particular day I guess Minnie decided she needed a vacation, because at one point she took a dollar someone gave her and just flew away into a tree xD I hope they got her back alright.
And now for a random one, this bird, whom I've nicknamed the Tim Burton bird because of its feet:
What the heck is this?? Its a tropical bird, since it was in the rainforest exhibit, but no one was around to ask and I'd never seen it before xD Those are the strangest feet ever.
I do have more photos if anyone wants to see! I figured I'd keep this short for now, hehe.
Wraith- that's what it is! Very cool I'm officially fascinated by the weird little bird, awesome that I know its name now. Thanks!
OMG LOOKIT THE BABY
& thanks Quad! Its an amazing place.... its considered the National aviary, and the largest one in the country, with tons of birds that can't be found in zoos or elsewhere. Definitely a reason to come to Pittsburgh! hehe
I swear I have seen that last
