random behavior questions

SizzyBubbles's picture
I have some random TEF deer behavior questions that maybe some of you could help me out with.

-If a deer wants me to do spells on it, how do i know? It's there a "action" for that?

-If another deer is aggressive/wants to fight what do i do? (i suppose i would just flee)

-Any mean deer i should know about to avoid? Tibbs is somewhat of a coward. Haha.

-Is it "ok" to walk up and just sit with a group of resting deer? (Though Tibbs waits to be invited first)

-Any actions i should avoid doing while being merry with deer?

Though everyone seems pretty cool and i doubt i could or would piss-off anyone Smiling Especially since i could be moving one second then completely unresponsive the next (afk).
Thanks!

1. Pawing the ground (the 'scratch' emote) when a deer is near a tree for antlers/masks or a sleeping deer can help clue you in. Even if they aren't near any of these things, a deer might use the 'scratch' emote for you to follow then lead you to one of those trees or a sleeping deer, which is another clue.
2. Your choice. If your character doesn't 'take damage' (meaning in roleplay, you act as if your deer is hurt) or you don't want to, I'd suggest just shaking your head no and walking away. (: If they persist, either just leave or sit down.
3. I wouldn't know. xD All my characters will at least say hello when you come up to them.
4. Of course it matters on the group of deer, but in general, I'd say certainly!
5. Nah. As long as people know it's play, generally all actions are just fine. Adding in laughs after aggressive emotes (antlering, rearing, taunting) can help assure that the person knows you're playing.

There is no one specific action, but most players will use a series of guestures to indicate what they want. It's a sort of body language. Most if it is fairly intuitive, and you'll probably pick it up quickly. The most common guestures for this are for the person who wants a spell to request for you to follow them (point at the ground and nod, walk away and come back, etc) and then to lead you to the source of the spell they want (sleeping deer, mushroom tree, etc) and point and nod again. Once you start casting they will usually shake their head "no" or "yes" to indicate if it is the correct spell or not. They may also celebrate once you cast the right spell, by rearing and dancing and running around. It varies a lot from player to player, but this is generally the most common method.

-If another deer is aggressive/wants to fight what do i do? (i suppose i would just flee)
Whatever you want to do. If you want to play back, play back. If you want to run, run! If you don't want to deal with it, just sit down or have Tibbs shake his head no until they leave. Most players will understand an air-sit to be a cue from you to stop whatever they're doing because it is bothering you. To air-sit, run off of a high place (such as a hill or the rocks at the playground) and press the space bar to jump repeatedly. This will allow you to "fly." When you reach the place you want to air-sit at, press the escape key to open your menu. Your deer will sit in mid-air.

Most deer are at least polite. It's easier to interact with others and get a feel for how each deer behaves than to point fingers and indicate deer who may be perfectly friendly to one deer and rude to another. You'll never know until you've interacted.

YES! : D It is polite to bow first, though.

-Any actions i should avoid doing while being merry with deer?
Not really. As long as you are obviously playing (laugh and dance a lot!), even "aggressive" actions will be received well. Play fights use all the same motions as a "real" fight - lowering antlers, taunting/stomping hooves, pointing, rearing, and so on - but the difference is that deer who are playing will laugh periodically, and will usually stop to bow to newcomers and invite them to join in.

I'll do what I can to answer

I'll do what I can to answer your questions. There are no strict rules on behavior in the Forest, but there are guidelines that can help.

-If a deer wants me to do spells on it, how do i know? It's there a "action" for that?

There aren't specific ways to know since everyone does it differently, but usually if they're calling and/or scratching the ground near a sleeping deer (for pelts) or a tree (for masks or antlers), that's a good way to know. Also if they're not wearing any spells (a.k.a. a naked deer), they generally would like something cast on them even if they don't say it.

-If another deer is aggressive/wants to fight what do i do? (i suppose i would just flee)

If you don't want to fight, don't stomp your hooves or lower your antlers. Just shake your head, cower, and/or just ignore them. You don't have to fight if you don't want to.

-Any mean deer i should know about to avoid? Tibbs is somewhat of a coward. Haha.

I don't have any to name. But normally other deer won't pick a fight with you unless they know you're a fighter. Just be generally friendly and you won't have to avoid anyone Eye

-Is it "ok" to walk up and just sit with a group of resting deer? (Though Tibbs waits to be invited first)

Of course! That's a good way to 'break the ice' and meet new deer, too. Generally groups of deer are pretty accepting of others, but if someone acts angry at you, don't get upset. They may just play an aggressive deer or something.

But usually people are welcoming of others sitting with them.

-Any actions i should avoid doing while being merry with deer?

If you accidentally lower your antlers, cower, or anything you didn't intend to do, you can immediately have your deer laugh and generally people accept that to mean you're being silly. Just don't act aggressive and you'll be fine Eye
