December 22, 2016 - 7:54pm — an unnamed deer
Ay-yo peeps.
I have some questions that I've been really wanting to ask this community for years, but I'd never gotten around to actually asking them... considering I buggered off for almost 2 years lol.
You don't need to answer them all, just whatever ones strike your fancy:
-------
1. Do you think it is rude to just walk up to a strange deer and sit beside them?
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
5. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
6. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
7. What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
8. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
9. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
10. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
-------
If I think of any new questions I'll add them later... also if you have your own question then feel free to post them too.
Edit - Spelling? What's spelling?
Edit Edit - OMG I MESSED UP THE NUMBERS AND I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE!
1. Do you think it is rude to
If it's IC? Not at all. I keep my IC/OOC separation thick, I'll react icly, but oocly I'm probably actually pleased someone noticed one of my deer at all. If someone's doing it just to stir shit ooc or be annoying then I suppose one could consider that rude but it's not really doing anything, one can simply ignore it or move.
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
Depends on which oc I'm on.
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Depends on which oc I'm on.
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you personally let them know?
Depends on which oc I'm on.
Jumping around seems to work for Sleepless.
3. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
If I feel like the mun/player doesn't like me ooc it makes me anxious, it's a huge issue because I just assume everyone hates me.
4. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
Yeah. See anxiety above.
5. What would you consider "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
Depends on which oc I'm on x2.
From an ooc perspective, I consider the obvious things aggressive; antlering, taunting, etc.
6. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
Like, in forest? Nah. They can tell me if I'm interrupting something.
7. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Shake head 'no'? if it's ooc of course.
I don't run in the background though so if it's really annoying spellcasting I just bring up another window and spells don't stick to me anymore, huehuehue
8. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
No not at all! If I notice someone doing so I try and keep myself asleep so they can finish! Or if there's another sleeping deer nearby, I sometimes pop up to help.
1. No 2. Depends on my deer.
2. Depends on my deer. Some will get right in their face and sniff, some will stare awkwardly/aggressively, others will bow from a distance.
3. Whatever seems best. Hop around, sniff the other deer 4ever, stare awkwardly/aggressively, etc. Depends on which deer I'm playing.
4. Either hop around them or poke at them (pawing at the ground) and then run/hop away and look behind at them to try and indicate that they should chase my deer. Again, depends on the character, though.
3. Usually if the deer is mooing a lot, but real-talk, if the deer's bio has content that I don't want to view and I don't have their player's contact info in case there's some kind of misunderstanding in-game, I'll have my deer avoid them.
4. Yes
5. HONESTLY I feel like Mahj nailed it. Read his comment instead of mine which I deleted because it was tl;dr and gross.
6. If deer are sitting together, I'm going to assume they're in a RP off-site and I have my character bugger off unless I know their players well and/or have their contact info. However, if I don't know their players/have their contact info and one of the deer demonstrates that it's okay for my deer to interact, then my deer will usually do so.
7. Head shaking "no", get the red pelt if they're spell-spamming, leave the area, etc.
8. Pff absolutely not! The only time I find it kind of sad is if my deer is going through some kind of hard time or is injured. Then it's like "aw man, why you gotta do this" but I never feel bothered, I just feel bad for my deer.
Also agreed with Mahj's statement about having your deer stay asleep.
1. Do you think it is rude to
Nope, actually, I'd like stuff like that to happen more often without it feeling awkward.
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
Assuming it's a first-time greeting, I bow, sometimes combined with a head tilt, then nod yes. Sniffing too but not always, mostly only if they sniff first. I tend to give others space.
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Varies a lot.. Jump around, dance... or just stand/stare awkwardly lol
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
Hop around a bit and see if they follow.
3. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
If they moo a lot for no reason/if it seems to be only for the purpose of being annoying.
4. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
Yeah but I blame my anxiety and not exactly because of the other deer/player 8'D
5. What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
The obvious lowering antlers/taunt emotes. If it's a character I'll play along, and my deer's actions would depend on the context of the situation. If it seems to be someone trolling I just ignore/move somewhere else.
6. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
Yeah sometimes.
7. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Shake head no and/or walk away.
8. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
Nope, if anything I'm happy to help c:
1. Do you think it is rude to
Generally not. I usually appreciate the company, whether or not my character might.
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
Most of my characters will do some variation of a bow. OOC deer full bow or half bow, depending on formality.
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Sniff or play or both, lol. Sometimes I'll invite them to sit and chill. Depends on what character I'm using and what mood I'm in.
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
Hopping, spell casting, and/or running around usually works.
5. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
Non-stop mooing or continuing obnoxious behaviors (spell spamming, mooing, etc) after being asked to stop. Very, very, very rarely I'll choose not to associate with a player's deer because we butt heads on some level, but mostly that's a courtesy thing so we don't end up bothering one another.
6. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
I think we all do sometimes. I'm shy.
7. What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
Depends on the context. Even standing and staring can potentially be aggressive in certain contexts with certain characters, whereas standing and staring might just indicate someone waiting for another player's or character's attention in other contexts.
How I deal with it depends on which deer I'm playing. OOC, I tend to ignore it or laugh it off, unless it's coming from a character (in which case I'll find somewhere more fun to be).
8. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
On occasion, when I can tell something is obviously happening and I don't feel inclined or feel like I should be involved. Sometimes two characters are obviously having a conversation and I/my deer don't want to interrupt, so we might check in again later.
9. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Shaking head 'no' multiple times, bow/no, leaving the area, and in worst case sitting down and turning off 'run in background' so that spells are ineffective, and I'll just wait a few minutes until they go away.
10. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
99.9999999% of the time ABSOLUTELY NOT! It actually tends to make me smile, and sometimes I'll watch them play. If it bothers me at all, it's because I feel inclined to stay online until they're finished and I'd like to go to bed or something, but it's not usually too big a deal for me to leave my computer running overnight so that's pretty rare.
Do you think it is rude to
Of course not! I'm very flattered when someone comes to sit next to me, it makes my day and makes me feel like I'm at least worth something here on the community. Otherwise I'm alone about 95% of the time. Which is okay, but it makes the game less fun.
How do you personally greet another deer?
Bowing, mostly. Sniffs occasionally follow afterwords.
What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Depends on my mood, really. Sniff always after as a form of secondary greeting, because some characters don't bow. Which is totally fine. Sometimes afterwords I ask them if they want to sit or play around.
If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
Jumping around usually works, along with the head tilt as if asking if they want to. If not, then that's fine too.
What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
People I know OOCly that I feel I have wronged and feel like I'm not allowed near them at all. So I tend to run away (I tend to accidentally make people angry without realizing it and I try to fix it, but make it worse, so I run and hide, part of it is my mental disorder). Certain people and their characters give me great anxiety, I won't name a few, but mostly it's pretty well known and popular characters. I hesitate to reach out because I'm afraid to get rejected for trying. And, like Mahj, I assume everyone hates me.
Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
ALL the time. I feel like my characters aren't developed enough or interesting enough to be even on par with them. I tend to make characters on a whim and then let them sit around and forget about them (mental disorder, again). I feel like being here has killed my creativity a lot because I'm afraid to be a 'theif'.
What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
Constant spamming of antlers, mooing, rearing and stomping. If it's ICly, it's quite fun, but if it's out of the blue, then I just try to shake my head to tell them 'no, I don't want to play like that right now' or something similar.
Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
Yes. All the time. Hence why I just isolate.
How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Usually I just shrug it off and let them do what they want until they're bored if it's OOCly, sometimes join in, because you know, they could just be asking for help for a set. And if it's ICly, then I guess I just ignore them until they get bored or log off.
Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
No! I love it when people come to use my character/deer as a source to farm pelt spells. It makes me feel good that I'm at least helping in some way. I usually wake up afterwords and bow to say 'glad you got your pelt!' or 'glad I was able to be of help!'.
ohh answering these and
and maybe explain myself a little1) Do you think it is rude to just walk up to a strange deer and sit beside them?
I don't think so, I check my browser 234567543 times to see if my deer has any visitors lmao. I don't approach others unless I've stalked them enough to make sure if they ever get company at all. I don't see how it would be bothersome though? Everyone seems to keep to themselves so it makes me feel like they want personal space but its a virtual world does it really matter
2) How do you personally greet another deer?
Bow + tilt and nod but sometimes my hot keys mess up and I end up with no friends. Then sniff aahh. I used to use the nuzzle emote a lot when I was new to the community (and new to RPs) before realizing how creepy it must have been kms I thought it was like a deer version of a firm handshake but no, it's an actual nuzzle and idk if it put some people off but i feEL IT DID AND I JUSTGFH
3) What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Stare at them for a bit, see if they wanted to do something else before tapping the ground + tilt to ask if they wanna sit/follow or something. Or take them to another groups of buddies because introducing others in-game is the best way to make it easier making friends in my opinion. Love others who do that
4) If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
Just start bouncing. I always find it awkward when I wanna do something else though LMAO I never wanna be the one to just halt and stare while the others frolic. But sometimes it goes on too long and I just kinda :/
5) What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
NotHiNG im bored and need friends, love me.Really though, if I actively avoid someone it would probably be an ooc reason? If my deer was enemies with another character, I would have my character avoid them then but then where do all your drama/plots gok but now that I said that, people are gonna think I dont like them omg no I love everyonemore like me being awkward around their player bc im a mess and want to seem cool, k6) Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer
I "avoid" the popular v cool characters because sometimes I feel like im not cool enough for them, I really fear I'm ever being annoying aahh are my lousy characters worth their time omg i dont know
7) What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
I thought antler shaking (listen + listen) was an aggressive thing, but it really isn't unless the other is being stand-offish and does lower-antlers/rear/taunt too. I use taunt a lot to play around though, all my characters are sassy pfft. IC, most of my deer would be sassy @ them too or even charge, but that's all the character, otherwise I'd throw a taunt at them and walk away.
8 ) Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
The thought crossed my mind, and I have run into some on going RPs. But when you have a character in the forest, I see it more realistically that anyone can come up and interact with something going on like walking around irl, so I don't feel too bad. Like if a character is messing with my character's friend, I don't just wanna have my deer walk right by thats ICly rUDe. I try not to bust in though ofc, I only barge in with people I know, dont look at me
9) How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you
Shake head and maybe bow if they're not persistent as a 'no thanks.' If they keep following me then I run and use the shake head action again. I don't use aggressive emotes unless i'm 100% sure they're trolls and not sweet ooc fawns wanting to play. But then again I tend not to have too much patience for ooc deer and I know that sounds horrible oMG
10) Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
Nah, not really. At least they noticed my deer :') Glad to help someone get a pelt anyway. Unless they're changing *my* pelt over and over, which doesn't bother me too much anyway?
1. Do you think it is rude to
OOCly - NAH, it's a good way to give someone some company, if they don't want they'll leave on their own terms.
ICly - Depends, but most of my characters will try this out anyway and not think of it as rude aha.
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
OOCly - Bowing, and nodding generally is a decent greeting for me, maybe a head tilt too. Sniffing is a normal greeting too.
ICly - Depends, but usually some sort of bowing+ something else unless it'a Pip since he doesn't bow, he just sniffs and nods.
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Depeeends, usually head tilt though to see if they had something in mind, or sit with them or bounce around.
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
I usually slowly start bouncing around, like one hop + head tilt, wait a lil bit and see if they join in. Some of my characters just go right into it and start galloping around/hopping.
3. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
ANXIETY mostly, like Mahj, if I feel that the player OOCly dislikes me.
OR if the character is like explicitly stated to be drama causing/hunting/aggressive character when I'm on a character that I REALLY don't want drama on, like with infants/baby character.
OR the character makes me uncomfortable for any reason, though this rarely happens im sure it could.
4. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
ALL THE TIME lmao. I'm horribly worried that I bother people dlkfjlksg
Mostly the people I look up to though I don't feel 'good' enough to hang around sometimes, I KNOW ITS STUpid but I cannot control this AAAAA
5. What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
Antlers down, & taunting when not used in a play-like settings are usually what make me think OH YES THEY ARE fighting. I usually ask before I assume though, just so I don't interpret something wrong.
6. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
Sometimes... if I see two deer staring at eachother I assume they're rping, or a big fight/event seems to be going on. I'll usually ask tho, cause again, I DONt like assuming.
7. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Shaking head 'No' or alternatively keying 'Listen' twice so they do the FAST head shake, or just tabbing out and ignoring.
8. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
Usually no, and I'll let them keep doin' it bUT SOMETIMES when it's a mini and they accidentally get spelled I get up and go get my pelt again right away so I dont forget and log out without my pelt
1. Do you think it is rude to
No, but it depends if you're IC or OOC though. I'll tend to avoid IC deer if I'm on an OOC unless the other players don't mind.
Although I do make exceptions if the deer is a "page not found" or they don't have an obvious bio.
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
I use the bow emote, I'm pretty sure like 99.9% of my characters use it. Birb doesn't cos she's birb and doesn't really understand. Smol is kind of in the same boat.
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Depends on the character, if they're energetic they'll run around and play, if not they'll just stand around or sit together.
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
Usually it's running and jumping around, also button mashing.
Kostya will binky like a bunny3. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
Same as Mahj, or I just don't like the character for whatever reason.
...Or you feel like if you try you're just going to get ignored anyway, which happens more times than not.
4. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
Yeah
in before people telling us to "just go do it!!1 it's easy!"5. What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
Lowering antlers + taunting + rearing + roaring
It depends on the situation, if it's a totally IC situation it's dependant on the character if they will run or fight back.
If it's someone trying to troll or be a pest I'll either go ooc and sit in a tree or in the rocks in the playground. Sitting on the pond works too.
6. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
Sometimes, if my character doesn't know them and it looks like something is going on I won't make them approach.
Or sometimes you just want to let characters be.
7. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Repeated "no" emotes, then moo+no...and then eventually taunt+no and if they persist I make my deer sit + turn running in background off.
8. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
Nah, if I'm about to go back in game and see people using my deer to get the spells I leave them asleep until they're done.
hoo boy 1. Do you think it
1. Do you think it is rude to just walk up to a strange deer and sit beside them?
Depends. OOC, no. Might be a bit awkward, especially IC, but it really matters on how the character is played. Agree with Mahj and Snail.
2. How do you personally greet another deer?
Simple bow, or bow+head tilt. Doesn't matter if IC or OOC, which character or w/e.
3. What do you do after you have greeted the other deer?
Either sniff or just stare very, very awkwardly at them. Or, if I can and I'm just feeling really stupidly anxious, find a spot to sit down at immediately and hope they join.
4. If you want to play with the other deer, how do you let them know?
Running around, hopping/jumping, or dancing.
5. What makes you want to actively avoid another deer?
Anxiety. Kinda comparable to avoiding people you don't know at a workplace/class/etc. I'm anxious that I'll press some button and then there'll be a miscommunication or they're roleplaying with another deer on the site/thru another program and AAA. Ties in with #6.
6. Have you ever felt intimidated by another deer (e.g - They seem unapproachable or you do not think you're good enough to approach them)?
See Snail and Fishbiscuit's comment.
I get highly intimidated by characters that have pretty CSS layouts, a whole bunch of art and relations to other characters, or have "popular" players. me likes me characters lookit!! lookit me character!! and woah. lookit that one. so pret. so developed. v scary........ but at the same time this is why I keep coming back to this game, just for the roleplay and to get the very scary characters and develop them and fffffff,,,,
7. What would you consider to be "aggressive behaviour" in-game and how do you deal with it?
Constantly mooing, taunting, etc. See Mahj's comment.
8. Do you avoid roleplayers/other roleplayers in fear that you're disturbing their RPs?
I avoid them like the plague. Kinda explained in other questions above. If they're very obviously just staring at eachother or are cuddled up/etc I'll avoid them.
9. How do you let another deer know that something they are doing is bugging you (e.g - Someone keeps casting pelt spells on your mini)?
Shake head no, or just ignore them until they stop. If they don't then run away. Or just exit the game? Dunno.
10. Does it bother you when other people use your sleeping deer to get pelt spells?
Not at all! Very rare that they can catch that though cause I still check the forestviewer and map every 5 seconds to see if anyone had even moderately come close to my deer. My deer will only truly fall asleep if I don't really care at that moment, am drawing or doing something that requires major concentration, or when AFK.
Ay, thanks for answering
These questions have been on my mind for far too long... It's sort of calming to realize that a lot of us here on TEFc have the same worries. Heck, we really are just a puddle of anxiety and nerves aren't we?
Hm, I guess I'm going to try and be a bit more forward when dealing other deer from now on, so if my stupid lil butt wander up to you/your character in the Forest just give me a wee sign if your wanting any company or not. Otherwise I'll just stand staring at you like a creeper... for like an hour.
