Picked up on a now-familiar scent while going on a sprint out of sheer boredom. Followed it and found Lats'vel alone (or so he thought; didn't see a sleeping Kaeltiir at first). Took this as an opportunity to personally thank the boar for his help the other day, and to apologize for being an ass. His apology took the form of a clumsy bow because let's face it, he's awkward enough as he is, but the boar seemed to get it and was pretty welcoming. Watched in confusion as Lats'vel began to stomp the ground, unsure of what was going on. Was it a threat, a warning or something else? Stared uncertainly like an idiot, finally getting it when the frustrated boar plopped down and back up. Ohhh...right, yeah, knew that all along. Finally settled down, embarrassed but at least Lats' was satisfied. Felt a little annoyed with himself for taking orders, but A) Lats'vel is freaking huge and scary, and B) he owed the boar that much anyway for looking out for him. Feels a twinge of, gasp, respect developing for Big Bacon, though yeah he would totally never admit that. Pffright.
Almost instantly felt bored just sitting. Scoped out Anonymous off in the distance and went over to check him out. Erratically sniffed and rubbed experimentally to see how macho and menacing he could make himself out to be (and mayyybe trying to show off for Lats' as well but lolyeahsure dream on kid), but Anon only seemed confused. Meh, oh well. Decided the stag was interesting and tried to get him to romp/spar. Anon couldn't quite seem to get the hang of it and soon wandered off. Allllrighty then. Huffed and plopped back down near Lats' again. Itching to spar with a tree, but wondering if that would annoy the boar/make him wonder if he was trying to bust his head open again.
Spazzed a bit when a few deer came crashing by; twitchy weirdo mode initiated. Smacked a tree and refocused attention on Anon, who had wandered back. Messed with him a little more, then started a staring contest. Getting really creeped out by that mask. Basically everything resulted in the two trying to out-weird each other. Stared warily at Rajih when he appeared, contemplated, then went in for a couple of sniffs. Satisfied when the Thing backed up. Returned to his former position by Lats' after Anon left again and when he got fed up by random deer shenanigans. Later sneezed/spat at by Rajih, too stunned to do anything except watch the Thing leave.
Sat stewing for a bit, not wanting to let that go. Hell no. Finally got up and followed Rajih's scent back to the Old Oak. Hesitated when he saw that the Thing was sleeping near his equal. He had no intention of fighting, but seeing as how the Things seemed close to Lats', he might as well try to make peace. Rajih stiffly got up and mock-charged, but the buck stood his ground. Made a couple of friendly yet wary gestures and got a sniff in. The Thing seemed to loosen up at this, and to Hannibal's surprise he invited him to sit. Did so, stiffening when Rajih nuzzled him but took this as a good thing. Didn't expect everything to be forgiven so easily, but hey, works for him. Was tense for a bit, but soon relaxed when Rajih showed no signs of changing his mind. Decided that he really needed to stop being so paranoid all the time (good luck with that, bub).

The doe had been staring at the ground, and despite not having a human face, she had long eyelashes that fluttered when she blinked. Something caused her to look up though, and she froze, seeing that he had removed the skull. She stared at his pale and freckled face, eyes wide, and a light pink tint rose to her face. It's as if he cared for her feelings-- did he?
As he repeated her name, a small smile rose to her features, and her eyes seemed to light up. That is, as much as they could. She was still battered and bruised, but the smile and the small pink tint to her face (is that even possible?) seemed to make her look more happy. As he looked over her hair, she glanced away, before back to the stag. "H-Hannibal? That's unique.. I like it." Her voice echoed out, and Ariana tilted her head lightly to the side with another smile.
Zash pondered this a moment, staring at the mob of fireflies. The response seemed to say something else. He didn't know how most of the deer that came here were like. Then he was born here? Maybe? Or did he not remember his past life? He met so many that had died coming here, that he didn't really think much of it. It was just another part of their stories.
"Well I..." he trailed off, realizing that if he didn't know anything outside of the forest, then getting struck by a nearby explosion would sound like witchcraft to him. "I'm not sure how to explain it to you...where you born here?"
Poppy Hm...so she didn't know where she was from. He definitely wasn't surprised by that; seems that anyone he met had no recollection of where they were born, or if they were born here at all. It was very weird... But everyone seemed to shrug it off, and maybe he should too. It would never stop his gnawing curiosity, however. Keeping it simple, he nodded in understanding; he wouldn't want to press for more info. He couldn't fault the fawn; after all, he couldn't even remember what he ate for breakfast that morning. Oh...more questions about the skull. They didn't seem very accusing in nature, just curious. Still, he was a wee bit awkward in answering as he fumbled for an explanation. "Well...big, bad things have tiny heads and big teeth. They're not very smart, and they don't need to be because they're very strong. As for the skull, well...when you die, you do this funky thing called 'decomposing'. That's when all your skin falls off and you turn into a skeleton." Okay, that last part came out a bit too graphic. "Uh...well it doesn't fall off all at once, just over time. When you die, your body turns into bone and then dust." Nailed it.
Bunnycorn Seeing her eyes light up was a great sign, and a huge relief. The buck felt like a jerk giving off that first impression of being a tree-beating psycho...which he was, but still. The pink tint could not be seen beneath her fur, but he could clearly see that she was becoming more relaxed. Good, good. Smiled at the compliment, a light rosy tint popping up in his own pale cheeks. "Oh hey, thanks! You have a nice name too," he replied earnestly, then blinked and lightly cleared his throat. "Uh, sorry I scared you. Are you alright? ...well I mean I know you're alright, but..." His eyes drifted over her bruises again, frowning. "Is someone after you? Is that why you were hiding?"
Waning-Sun Eh, fair enough. Seems like everyone's past was shrouded in mystery here, and amazingly enough Hannibal was patient when he needed to be. With some relief he realized that he was able to provide an answer for Zash's question. "Nah, I was born somewhere else...or at least I think I was born. I never had parents, none that I could remember anyway, but I did grow up there. It's very similar to this place actually. But I got tired of it and tried to get out...and somehow I came here, through some weird fountain." He paused, then looked away sheepishly. "Yeah, sounds crazy. I don't even know, man; this is all so weird. Nothing makes sense here." Quietly he wondered if Zash arrived in a similar way, but as much as he wanted to he wouldn't push it. The other buck seemed just as lost as he was.
Zash nodded, completely understanding his frustration, "The Forest will drive you insane if you try to make sense of it," he answered quietly, "The sooner you learn to just go with it, the more peace of mind it will bring..." he shook his head, "I was just as lost as you when I came here though, if that helps with anything. I blocked a lot of that time from my memory...it wasn't...I wasn't at my best then." he glanced over at him, not sure why he had admitted that, but he couldn't change it once he had said it.
Zash certainly wasn't wrong about that: Hannibal had been feeling as if he were going crazy, and it didn't help that his mind was already wired in a strange way. The other buck was right, though. What use was there in trying to dig through and dissect every detail if it didn't change a thing? Even if Hannibal figured out his early past, what good would it do for him? Probably nothing. It would probably only make things worse. As for arriving here, well, he didn't mind that so much. At least he was presumably far away from the one being that he severely pissed off. No way he was going back there now, lest he lose more than just his antlers.
The buck stood quietly for a moment, pondering what Zash had said. An ear perked slightly at the ominous implications of Zash's history, and normally he would be much more pestering to get all the details. But now that he has seen Zash as an equal, he was developing some respect towards the other buck and felt that it was the best in both of their interests to yank the reins back on his enthusiasm. After realizing he had been standing in thoughtful silence for a bit too long, Hannibal lightly shook his head and drew a little closer, settling down on the grass a couple feet away from Zash. "Eh...I guess what's done is done. The only thing you can do is learn from it and move on. You can't let it haunt you, because then you'll really go nuts." Offered a half-smile at this as he tucked his legs beneath his lean frame.
He nodded, chuckling at that, "No truer words have been said, Hannibal." He lapsed into silence for nearly a minute before bits and pieces of what the other said struck him. "I didn't think there was another forest like this..." he mused quietly, more to himself than to the other, but then he shrugged and glanced over at the skull masked male, "but then again, how can I say I'm surprised. This place holds so many secrets..." he trailed off, his gaze flittering away.
Grinned at Zash's agreed response before following him into that same lapse of silence, pondering all that's been said as well. Looked up curiously when the other buck muttered to himself, and was about to say something but decided against it. Clearly not everyone here was accustomed to the idea of there being other 'worlds' besides this one. Hannibal knew this, but how he came to know was a mystery to him. He just thought that passing through worlds was common knowledge, until now. Well, hopefully the mere thought of it wouldn't throw his new acquaintance into a fit of madness. Blinked as Zash spoke again, catching his gaze with a lopsided smile. "Yeah, no kiddin'. It's pretty nifty though, I think. It makes life more interesting."
As the other buck's gaze drew away elsewhere, Hannibal found his own settling back on the healed stump that used to be one of Zash's legs. It didn't disgust him or anything like that; he was merely intrigued. It was admirable and fascinating how Zash seemed to get along just fine without it. Hell, he was probably even more sure on his feet than Hannibal was. So, what happened...? He sure as hell wasn't going to ask, but that didn't stop his imagination from running wild with possible scenarios.
Ariana silently nodded, her eyes flickering towards him before she looked away. "Thanks.. Well, um, I guess I'm alright." The doe shrugged, gazing up at him now. "I was first attacked by this big scary monster-like-thing. And then, two others came along and chased me around and stuff while I was lost. Yeah, that's why I'm hiding.Because I'm scared." Her voice grew quiet at the end, though she cleared her throat and straightened back up. Her head had been lowered, so that her nose almost touched the grass.
( I'm sorry for the shortness. I just got home from a friend's. ;u; )
Frowning still, the buck's brow furrowed at the mention of a big 'monster'. Three jerkwads were chasing her around? Sounded like potential predators, and man, did Hannibal hate predators. He always believed they were cowards, always going after much smaller and more vulnerable creatures. Anger began to flare up in his chest, but he repressed it; he didn't want to stress the doe out even more than she already was. Man... Watching her lower her head like that was upsetting. He had to do something.
"Well...you're safe now. I promise that they won't come looking for you," he said softly, then straightened up a little and puffed out his chest. "Not with me around!" he added with confidence and a half-grin. And he believed it, too. If anyone were to start trouble with him or his friends, he'd go down swinging.
Ariana's eyes widened at this, and they soon found him as he straightened up with a puff of his chest. She looked amazed, simply at the fact that someone would go out of their way to protect a little vulnerable thing like her. How crazy! She was having trouble finding her words, mouth opening just slightly as if she were going to say something, but closing once again as she realized that she had no idea what to say.
Taking a breath in, the doe slowly stood up on her long legs, only to stumble forwards due to the limp she had. After regaining her posture, she shook her head, staring at him now as if he were crazy."You can't do that. I won't let you. You just happened to come across me. I'll be on my way soon, and I'll be out of yours, I promise." Her voice had grown almost inaudible as she spoke, stepping back once while her emerald eyes studied his pale face.
It makes life more interesting... he nodded, shifting a bit to catch his gaze, only to find the other male staring at his right foreleg. His first reaction was to send his gaze away. He had noted his surprise of a lack of a limb earlier, but had wrote it off as just initial shock. He was used to fawns, who simply accepted it as who he was and didn't judge him, or adults who were surprised but generally kept their interest in check. He wasn't used to someone who ranged in his age group, at least...he thought Hannibal was younger, his face seemed to claim that, who knew it wasn't necessarily normal in the least, but didn't know any better.
He cleared his throat before speaking in a soft voice, "I'd like to say I got these scars from fighting some horrible evil and ended up sacrificing my limb, hearing and sight for the sake of the greater good...I didn't, it was just an accident."
"Hell, he was probably more sure on his feet than Hannibal was." <--- Nope. Not true. Hahaha he is a klutz. But on a good day he can be pretty surefooted.
Bunnycorn When she stumbled, it was like a gut reaction: Hannibal too jerked forward to steady her, but managed to hold himself back when she caught herself. Scolded himself for being such a spaz, but he didn't want her to get even more hurt. "Sure I can!" he countered with a grin, chest puffing once more. "I hate to break it to you, but I'm pretty deadset on my mission." Paused, and then quickly added, "But I won't stop you if you want to leave, of course. That's up to you. Just know that you can count on me if you're in trouble."
The buck let that sink in for a moment before padding back over to the roots and tapping the ground gently. "C'mon, you should sit down. You've had too much excitement for one day."
Waning-Sun Hannibal started when Zash spoke up, and he looked away perhaps a little too quickly, cheeks flushed. He didn't mean to stare...that was very rude of him. But the other buck seemed complacent enough as he explained. Hannibal listened intently, and it was then he finally realized that Zash had one eye and barely two ears. Damn...this guy had been through so much, and he was so young too. He sacrificed so much. Hannibal wasn't even sure if he would do the same, and so when he turned back to look at the other buck his face with full of admiration.
"I, uh...sorry, I wanted to ask but I wasn't sure how to go about it. That's pretty brave of you, though," he said softly, looking back over Zash's scars keenly. "You've had a pretty crazy life, huh? But you're very chill. You're way tougher than I'll ever be," the buck added with a lopsided smile.
[Awh haha, well I'm glad that he can be pretty surefooted at least, despite everything. c:]
Ariana stared at the buck, eyes narrowed just slightly. What was he thinking? If they were after her, they'd surely find her. And when that happened.. he could get hurt! Falling silent, she glanced around as if thinking, before letting out a breath of air."Thank you.." The doe muttered out.
As he padded off, Ariana limped after him, a small smile on her face now. "Why are you so.." She paused for a moment, searching for the right word, "persistent with keeping me safe? I'm a stranger." She then settled down next to the roots, leaving enough room for him to sit. It'd be rude if she didn't, right?
( Le short. ;u;
Edit: Oh, by the way, I've claimed Han as mine. |D )
Zash watched him for as long as he could before he had to look away, staring at the ground. He didn't deserve admiration. It bothered him terribly that Hannibal admired him for something that he basically did to himself. He didn't deserve it. Yet, it wasn't Hannibal's fault either; he didn't know. Brave. It only just occurred to him that he had no idea what 'chill' meant. As bothersome as that was, he'd rather deal with the concept of being valiant, than worry about a word that made little sense in the sentence.
"Please...please don't," he stated quietly, staring at the ground, "It was a foolish mistake. Not brave. Selfish. If anything. Not brave at all," he struggled to his hooves, but managed to only half turn himself away before he got tangled up by his back legs. He barely flopped back to the ground before he was trying to get up again, only to allow himself to stay down. What was he doing? Running away? He turned the blind side of his head back toward the stag, but kept his chin on the ground. He couldn't see Hannibal, but that was okay. He didn't want to see whatever expression he wore. "Yet, at the same time, if I hadn't done it then, I could have died later too. It was a war...I...I walked right into...I didn't try to hide..." he allowed a good heartbeat of silence before he added, "...I'm sorry, I don't deserve any sort of credit you want to give me. I deserve this... this curse...but even then, it's not all bad. I find myself with truer friends here than...well...in my past life..."
Bunnycorn Hannibal may have been many things, but there was one thing that he was not familiar with: fear. If Ariana's tormentors were to return, he would charge back at them head-on before they laid another paw, hoof or claw on her. Going down swinging was his specialty. ...well, that and kickboxing with innocent, defenseless trees. At her muttered thanks, Hannibal inclined his head with a half-smile. No thanks was necessary, but he didn't say that aloud. It would probably sound pretentious, but the buck was surprisingly humble when he wanted to be.
Looked up curiously at her inquiry, and then rolled it over in his mind for a moment. This was soon followed by a casual roll of his shoulders. "I didn't think I'd need a reason. I mean you're a little thing, all banged up and by yourself, and who knows if those jerks are coming back. I couldn't just walk away without helping," he explained matter-of-factly. Hesitated for a moment, and then finally settled down next to her, close but also giving her space. Sighed and rolled the skull off of his face, shaking his thick headfur loose. Ah, that always felt nice.
Waning-Sun Zash's quiet pleas to cease the praise surprised Hannibal, and at once he felt guilty and foolish. He rushed a little too quickly into his assumptions, and words flew out of his mouth as usual. They were not bad words of course, but they still seemed to hurt the other buck. From the way Zash described the situation, even vaguely, Hannibal began to understand just how truly painful his past was for him.
The freckled buck tensed when Zash suddenly stood up and swayed unsteadily on his three legs, and for a horrified moment he thought that he was going to fall over. Or run away... But no, the other male recovered himself and settled back down. Cheeks burning, Hannibal focused his gaze on the lilacs that bloomed before him, not even following the lazy movements of the fireflies. Ears slowly swiveled as he silently listened to Zash speak, and then a long, quiet sigh escaped his chest. "No, I'm the one who should be sorry for making you uncomfortable. I just...I don't talk to people much, and I get too excited I guess. That glimpse into your life just gripped me, but now I see how much it really hurts you," he replied softly after a moment, venturing a glance in the other buck's direction. "I won't push anything. I'm just a stranger to you, after all. It's none of my business."
Oh god, don't do that, the stag thought, keeping his chin in the same spot, Making you and I feel extra awful. You don't deserve that. I should have just let you think what you wanted to. But I would rather die than let people walk around giving me undeserved credit. He kept his voice low, not aggressive, just soft, "Stop apologizing, you didn't know, it's not your fault, alright? Don't worry about it...and you're not being pushy. I didn't mind telling what I did... it's just still kind of fresh in my mind is all. I'm still learning how to cope with it and move on...." he turned his head more, flashing a smile, "With me that's a rather slow process."
Don't mind me, just playing with a new voice color.
( /fangirls )
-- Tears soaked the doe's fur, though she had quickly wiped them away and turned away from the other so he couldn't see. The fact that someone was willing to go out and save some stranger absolutely amazed her, and she couldn't help but just gaze at him now with wide eyes. There was something about him; something about the stag, that intrigued her. (Oh, by the way, Ariana is able to cry! /shotdead)
I didn't think I'd need a reason. I mean you're a little thing, all banged up and by yourself, and who knows if those jerks are coming back. I couldn't just walk away without helping, A little thing? Pfft, I'll show him who's litt- ow. Okay, nevermind. As he settled down rather close next to her, she couldn't help but shift around. She had never been so close to someone before.. not even her mother. Hell, she didn't even remember her mother. What's a mother? Definitely not hers! As he rolled the skull from his head she studied his face, looking rather concentrated too, as if it were the first time seeing anyone else. Something about him..
(Hehe, not minding at all! n_n Sorry about the slight delay, gah.)
Waning-Sun The buck looked down again, embarrassed for himself and for his new acquaintance. He had never been so apologetic before, but then again he had never quite found an equal like Zash. They had just met, yes, but Hannibal could feel it. He concentrated his focus on the ground for a while, silent, until he heard Zash shift. Looking up again Hannibal met his gaze, and he returned the smile awkwardly. "Yeah, you can't be faulted for it. When you go through a rough time, it takes a while to recover. I understand that," he said with a nod, then rolled his shoulders back with a sigh as he tried to relax. He was starting to feel a little antsy, like he needed to go for a long run or just wail on a tree for a while, but he didn't want to leave. That'd be pretty rude and weird of him.
Instead, Hannibal struggled to think of a way to keep the conversation going (and away from the touchier topic) while his haunches and withers began to quiver subtly. Ugh, why was he so bad at this whole thing? He needed to figure out a way to be less socially awkward. Hm... Oh, he didn't notice that before... "That's a nice necklace," the buck finally said with an earnest smile. "Did someone make it for you?"
Bunnycorn When she looked back up with him with those wide, innocent eyes Hannibal felt as if he'd been stabbed in the heart. She was crying, or had been, but who could blame her? Even so, the buck had no idea what to do to comfort her. He supposed that his presence alone would be enough, but he didn't even have any antlers to protect her with. Surely she thought he was a joke. Huffing softly to himself, the buck rolled his shoulders back and straightened his posture. Who needed antlers, anyway? He'll kick the teeth out of their jerk-mouths.
Bah...there he was, getting lost in self-conscious thoughts again. Silently scolding himself, the buck faced the doe again to see that she was still gazing wide-eyed at him. Embarrassed, Hannibal quickly looked away and cleared his throat, crossing his hooves protectively over the skull. "You don't have to worry, you're safe now. You can rest if you want; I'll keep watch," he said softly, and then turned to her again with a sheepish half-smile. "I can never really sleep anyway, so...I don't mind at all if you don't."
Zash glanced over at him, grateful for the change in conversation. "Oh...no. My friend gave it to me a long time ago. She called it a good luck charm, or something like that. I wore it until the chain broke...it wasn't until recently that I realized I found her again in the forest... she fixed it for me. I guess it still works." he offered a smile at that. "I wear it to mostly remember my past and all the good times I had....the feather, that too. It belongs to a friend who recently passed, I wear it to remember him too."
As Zash explained, Hannibal felt himself relax and his smile grew, just as grateful that the other buck appreciated the change in topic as well. How nice was it that someone cared enough to give another person something that was precious to them. He never knew how that felt; Hannibal was more apt to take such things than to be presented with one as a gift. A part of him envied this about Zash, and he felt shame creep up on him. After all, the grey buck was wearing a gift whereas Hannibal wore something that was not his. Chewing in the inside of his cheek, Hannibal kept his smile strong and bowed his head. "That's very nice, and it definitely does sound lucky. Funny how fate works out like that, eh?"
Paused for a moment, glancing over his shoulder, and then returned his gaze to Zash. "I guess I've had my fair share of fate, too. I mean, I'm not even from here; I came in through that weird fountain thing in the place with the tall grass." Another pause, a slight flush creeping up in his pale cheeks. "That probably sounds crazy, huh?"
"Not as crazy as how some get here," he replied, "...though the Idol seems like a weird place to come from...but I always wondered if it was an underground spring or something...water just doesn't...flow from rocks on a whim...." he shrugged, but then again, it was the Forest. Always had to take that into consideration, "Some pop up from the pond too...others are just there. That's how I came to be, I just woke up in the grass. I didn't remember anything immediately after I died, I didn't even know I was dead for a while...at least, not until I understood that the Forest wasn't home..." he trailed off, shrugging again, "Here, it doesn't seem that far fetched," he offered a half smile at that, "it sounds normal."
As he seemed to be lost in his own thoughts, she laughed lightly, watching him turn back to her. As the buck quickly looked away and cleared his throat, she laughed lightly again, looking away as she did. "Thank you, Hannibal." Her voice echoed out as usual- barely audible yet sweet. She thought about the second part though, ears swiveling forwards to listen. You can rest if you want; I'll keep watch.
Tilting her head to the side, the doe watched him turn back with a sheepish half-smile. I can never really sleep anyway, so...I don't mind at all if you don't."Well, um, I'm not actually that tired." She blinked at him, slowly rising to her slender legs before stretching out. She then settled back into the long stalks of grass, her eyes looking over something in the distance as it seemed that she was the one lost in her own thoughts this time.
( Gahh, sorry. I literally just woke up because I'm lazy and stayed up way too late last night. ;n; )
Waning-Sun Hannibal shrugged as well, and then snorted softly. "I can't even tell you where I came from in the fountain. All I remember is jumping, feeling pulled from all directions, blacking out and bam, I'm passed out in water surrounded by bunnies." Hm...the pond, really? Maybe there was a connection with water, but that didn't explain those who just appeared literally out of thin air. Ah, the topic of death again. If Hannibal hadn't come here semi-willingly, he would have believed he had died as well. But who was to say he didn't die in the process of coming here? If he jumped between worlds, surely his body and mind would have been torn to pieces? Maybe this was the afterlife, or even some sort of limbo. An in-between. Ugh...he was starting to get a headache. Looking back at Zash, he returned the smile a little shakily. "I guess it is pretty normal, huh? It's funny...I knew it was a portal when I saw it. I didn't think, I just...I jumped through. I got tired of him, but I didn't think of where I'd end up, or if I'd even live." Paused, and then added with a small chuckle, "This place is pretty weird, but I guess it could've been way worse."
Bunnycorn She...wasn't tired? Oh. "Er...alright," the buck replied with an awkward chuckle. "I just figured that since you'd been through a lot lately, well I bet it took a lot out of you. It's nice to get a lot of rest and not worry about what's happened, yanno...well at least that's how I see it. I mean I don't really sleep much, but when I do it's really ni-" His voice trailed off when he realized that he was rambling way too much about nothing, and that Ariana appeared lost in thought. Quickly he shut his mouth, training his eyes on the horizon and biting at the inside of his cheeks. You talk too fast, shut up, he scolded himself with a soft huff. Basically every waking moment of his life was dedicated to making himself look unintentionally foolish, but very rarely was he embarrassed by it. Right now he was, and so he remained quiet. He figured it'd be more comfortable that way anyway.
( I'm on my iPod, so that's why this is sucky and short without color and size and stuff. ;u; )
The doe finally shook out of her thoughts, and looked over at him. She had honestly not heard a word he said, which made her feel terrible. "Uh, yeah." She mumbled, attempting to look as if she had heard everything. She watched him with her wide eyes, studying the older teen's face.
Despite her worry, the buck smirked. Honestly, he wouldn't have listened to himself either. He sat in silence for another long moment, wondering if he should continue the conversation. The doe seemed very lost in thought; would it be rude of him to interrupt? Probably. Quietly, he continued to scan the horizon-line, doing his best to not give off awkward vibes. Maybe it was best if he just stayed quiet for now.
"Bunnies..." he chuckled. Such a specific thing to remember. Though his chuckle faded as he listened to the rest of the male's words. I got tired of him... He was about to ask who, but he stopped the words from forming on his tongue. Whoever he was running from...well he figured he'd tell in time, if it ever deemed important enough for Zash to know, "It's funny...when I went through that portal in the Idol-only did it once- it took me home..." he trailed off for a second, "yet the other portals here...they didn't take me directly home..." he shook his head, "they're confusing when you try to make sense of them..."
Whoa, wait... Portals, as in plural? "There's more than one?" Hannibal asked with bewilderment, his eyes wide. He wasn't sure if he liked the idea of that or not. More portals means more worlds, but that also meant more ways for all types of creatures to come and go as they pleased. Perhaps even some from his own past...oh hell no. No way would that happen, right? Shuddering, the buck's eyes searched Zash's own. "You sound like you're so used to this kind of thing. How many places have you visited? Did you always end up back here?" There was so much more he wanted to ask, but he sure as hell didn't want to overwhelm the other male. His withers began to quiver a little more with mounting excitement and anxiety.
He thought for a moment, but shrugged, "I'm pretty sure. I know and been to two of them. I can sense others, but I never wander through them. I don't know where I'm going to end up otherwise. But I know of short cut type of ones too in the world, that just sort of spit you out in another spot. Helpful if you're slow like me or need to get out of a tight spot...." he shrugged again, "I use the one that lets me turn back into my old self the most, I get bad headaches...or bad pains from my leg and all...it's nice to get away to deal with them in quiet rather than curl up somewhere in the forest."
The buck listened with great intent, eyes wide and ears forward. Zash could sense them... But how was that even possible? Looking back Hannibal supposed that he could 'feel' the portal that he eventually went through...he had seen it more than felt it, but it was like tiny currents of electricity weaving through his fur and humming within his skull. It was subtle, but still there. Whoa, wait a minute... Short cuts? Old self? Zash had more than one body to jump into, essentially? This was all too much to take in at once. "Your old self... You mean, this is not your original body?" Hannibal breathed with wonderment, hardly believing it but having no reason not to. "Where are these portals in the forest? If I go through one, do you think I'll end up in the same place as you did?"
"No, I died as a human...ended up here. My soul's the same, my body's just different." he trailed off for the portal questions, thinking, "They're sort of...everywhere. You just got to know where to look for them, I guess, and as for if you'll end up where I wander, I don't know. When I went through the Idol, I went home. Where you came from- your home I'm guessing- you ended up here. Logic says that if you went back through the Idol, you'd end up at your home, if I went through, I would end up at mine. I don't know about the other spots."
A human... What was a human? It seemed like something he knew, once... Wow, this was maddening. Too bad he was too fascinated and excited to really care about the migraine that was coming on. "So each portal is tailored to each individual, basically. That is some heavy stuff right there," the buck muttered, brow furrowed in deep thought. So he now knew for sure that there was a portal at the Idol...hm. Nothing would stop him from checking it out, but as far as trying it out...well, he wasn't too sure if he would go through with it. Who knew where he would end up, or if he would even survive the transition. But hey, it was at least worth investigating. "Maybe everyone 'feels' the presence of portals differently, but what happens with you? My hair stood on end last time I saw one, and I got constant ringing in my ears for a while. Mild stuff, but noticeable anyway."
Interesting... "Nothing really...happens. I just sort of notice it's there. The only thing that happens is I get sort of lightheaded when I go through one...but that's only when I become human...again." he trailed off, allowing his head to rest on the ground.
The buck nodded slowly, silently curious as to why Zash's side-effects were different than his own. Maybe it was because the other buck was so used to this kind of thing...and there was that mention of a 'human' again. Why did that sound so familiar? Hannibal had so many more questions that he simply didn't know where to start, but when Zash laid his head down he forced them back. The grey buck must have been tired in every way imaginable, but that didn't stop yet another question from escaping Hannibal's lips. "What is a human, Zash? Are they..." he trailed off, swallowing back an odd lump that had formed in his throat. "Do they look like you and me, a little? I mean...that is not your original body, but surely your face it still yours. Right?"
"In some regards my face is still the same...I mean, the scars look a bit uglier...and my skin color is closer to yours as a person. I have hair instead of fur..." he trailed off, "Yeah, a little. Not a whole lot. They walk upright instead of on four legs. Their arms are our forelegs. Their ears are short, and they have clothes covering their bodies instead of fur...each one's a bit different, just like us, not drastically, though, just a bit. Different hair colors, skin colors, eye colors..." he lapsed into silence, uncertain as to what else he could add.
Erari blinked. "Not everything that bad have little head. Thing chased me when I was here first day. It had big head." She shrugged. "That not sound every good. Sound kind of scary. Even if you dead so you don`t have to remember it. I don`t want to turn into bone" She shudders slightly.
Waning-Sun Hannibal was more often than not a creature of skepticism, but he was enraptured in everything that Zash explained and he could not dispute any of it. After all, he had no reason to not believe they grey buck. It all made so much sense, somehow. It was an instinctual feeling roiling around in his gut, telling him that all of this was right. Zash didn't need to explain further; the visual was more than enough, and it fascinated the buck to no end. And then a thought hit him. It was frightening, but at the same time exciting. "I don't remember my past...well, the very beginnings of my life anyway. I don't remember having a mother or father. I just...came into existence," he said slowly, his eyes trained on the ground before finding Zash's gaze once more. "Do you think...it's possible that I was a human too, once? Like you."
Poppy Chased? So there's more than one jerkwad running around and scaring littler, defenseless creatures? What the hell. Well, she seemed fine anyway. Actually, she didn't appear scared at all. Honestly she acted and spoke differently from the other deer that he had met, and it was pretty refreshing. "Well, a big head does not guarantee a big brain. Whatever chased you must have been pretty dumb, I guarantee it," he said with a half-grin. He blinked when she went on, and then scolded himself for being so forward with that morbid explanation. But it really wasn't wise to lie about it; everyone found out about death sooner or later. Learning this early on softened the blow a bit, usually. "No one wants to turn into bone, but it has to happen to everyone eventually," Hannibal replied softly, tilting his head with that same soft smile. "But you shouldn't worry about that. You're so long, you have so much to experience! Besides, time works differently here. I wouldn't doubt if you ended up living forever...but don't quote me on that, in case I'm wrong." Chuckled softly at this.

The doe had been staring at
As he repeated her name, a small smile rose to her features, and her eyes seemed to light up.
( I'mjustgoingtosaythisbutItotallyshipit. /shotdead )
Rofl you guys are too much!
Eek, I shall respond to the RPs as soon as possible. My muse is pretty shoddy right now. ;n;
Take your time! I'm just glad
Zash pondered this a moment,
"Well I..." he trailed off, realizing that if he didn't know anything outside of the forest, then getting struck by a nearby explosion would sound like witchcraft to him. "I'm not sure how to explain it to you...where you born here?"
Poppy Hm...so she didn't know
Hm...so she didn't know where she was from.
Bunnycorn
Seeing her eyes light up was a great sign, and a huge relief.
Waning-Sun
Eh, fair enough.
Zash nodded, completely
Zash certainly wasn't wrong
He nodded, chuckling at that,
Grinned at Zash's agreed
As the other buck's gaze drew away elsewhere, Hannibal found his own settling back on the healed stump that used to be one of Zash's legs. It didn't disgust him or anything like that; he was merely intrigued. It was admirable and fascinating how Zash seemed to get along just fine without it. Hell, he was probably even more sure on his feet than Hannibal was. So, what happened...? He sure as hell wasn't going to ask, but that didn't stop his imagination from running wild with possible scenarios.
Ariana silently nodded, her
( I'm sorry for the shortness. I just got home from a friend's. ;u; )
[No worries at all, dear!
Ariana's eyes widened at
Taking a breath in, the doe slowly stood up on her long legs, only to stumble forwards due to the limp she had.
It makes life more
He cleared his throat before speaking in a soft voice, "I'd like to say I got these scars from fighting some horrible evil and ended up sacrificing my limb, hearing and sight for the sake of the greater good...I didn't, it was just an accident."
"Hell, he was probably more sure on his feet than Hannibal was." <--- Nope. Not true. Hahaha he is a klutz. But on a good day he can be pretty surefooted.
Bunnycorn When she stumbled,
When she stumbled, it was like a gut reaction: Hannibal too jerked forward to steady her, but managed to hold himself back when she caught herself.
Waning-Sun
Hannibal started when Zash spoke up, and he looked away perhaps a little too quickly, cheeks flushed.
[Awh haha, well I'm glad that he can be pretty surefooted at least, despite everything. c:]
Ariana stared at the buck,
As he padded off, Ariana limped after him, a small smile on her face now. "Why are you so.." She paused for a moment, searching for the right word, "persistent with keeping me safe? I'm a stranger." She then settled down next to the roots, leaving enough room for him to sit. It'd be rude if she didn't, right?
( Le short. ;u;
Edit: Oh, by the way, I've claimed Han as mine. |D )
Zash watched him for as long
"Please...please don't," he stated quietly, staring at the ground, "It was a foolish mistake. Not brave.
Bunnycorn Hannibal may have
Hannibal may have been many things, but there was one thing that he was not familiar with: fear.
(Haha, oh boy! He's getting fangirls now, who would've thought?? XD)
Waning-Sun
Zash's quiet pleas to cease the praise surprised Hannibal, and at once he felt guilty and foolish.
Oh god, don't do that, the
Don't mind me, just playing with a new voice color.
( /fangirls ) -- Tears
--
Tears soaked the doe's fur, though she had quickly wiped them away and turned away from the other so he couldn't see.
Waning-Sun
The buck looked down again, embarrassed for himself and for his new acquaintance.
Bunnycorn
When she looked back up with him with those wide, innocent eyes Hannibal felt as if he'd been stabbed in the heart.
Zash glanced over at him,
As Zash explained, Hannibal
Paused for a moment, glancing over his shoulder, and then returned his gaze to Zash. "I guess I've had my fair share of fate, too. I mean, I'm not even from here; I came in through that weird fountain thing in the place with the tall grass." Another pause, a slight flush creeping up in his pale cheeks. "That probably sounds crazy, huh?"
"Not as crazy as how some get
As he seemed to be lost in
Tilting her head to the side, the doe watched him turn back with a sheepish half-smile.
I literally just woke up because I'm lazy and stayed up way too late last night. ;n; )
Waning-Sun Hannibal shrugged
Hannibal shrugged as well, and then snorted softly.
Bunnycorn
She...wasn't tired?
( I'm on my iPod, so that's
The doe finally shook out of her thoughts, and looked over at him. She had honestly not heard a word he said, which made her feel terrible. "Uh, yeah." She mumbled, attempting to look as if she had heard everything. She watched him with her wide eyes, studying the older teen's face.
( Gahh I'm sorry! /dies )
[No worries at all hon,
Despite her worry, the buck smirked.
