for me The Endless Forest is...

Etincelle's picture
Yesterday I've read hereticrick's post about TEF and comments on it. And then I began thinking of what forest means to me.
I've learned about the game from the post on one russian fantasy site. I had nothing to do that day and decided to download it. Though I don't play online games...
I pretend to be a photographer and the quality of the image is very important to me. So you can guess that I didn't like the graphics much. However the deer were impressive... unreal.
But... the game made no sense. I was running arond the forest, feeling absolutely lost and a bit bored. Other deers were saying "hello" and I just answered them and continued running. Then I tried to play with somebody... for about a minute. Bored again.
So I was about to quit.
Suddenly I met Nerri. She was... beautiful and very friendly. So my Etincelle followed her. Then we met Hewies. And the game became interesting.
At first I was just having fun, dancing and laughing. I didn't quite understand other emotions. But then they became full of sense.
Now Etincelle has her own language and character...
The graphics doesn't matter now...
The best thing about the game is the impossibility to speak. In fact body language carries more than 80% of information in communication between people. However we often pay to much attention to words. And we don't believe that it is possible to make friends without saying a word. But it IS. And it's startling.

I absolutely agree with you

I absolutely agree with you :) <3

This was such a nice blog.

The last paragraph about body

The last paragraph about body language is spot on.

Meeting people and making friends makes TEF a wonderful place~

I agree with that about body

I agree with that about body language. For me it's hard to say what I feel or what I want to say. Body language is better than milion words. Laughing out loud

Exactly. People that insist on The Endless Forest having a "chat feature" are completely loosing the point. Some people just can not grasp the concept of wordless communication. My favorite part of the game is interacting with other deer through body language.

It is also the biggest challenge of the game. You may create your own language in The Endless Forest but even two people that speak English may speak slightly differently in the forest. Sometimes you have to stop and think "Ok, this deer is not understanding what I am trying to say. Let me try this way and see if they understand me better."

Another amazing thing about The Endless Forest is communicating with other people that do not even speak your own language. I have met great people through their deer that I may have never gotten to know otherwise. While we have a language barrier with our spoken language we can still communicate and enjoy each other through the language of The Endless Forest. You can not only make friends in game without a chat feature but in fact you may make friends you may have never thought of making friends with before.

Sorry, you got me on a happy ramble. >.>;

Tori yeah... body language is

Tori yeah... body language is much more expressive and natural.

PrairieWolf I extremely liked your comment! No other game can give such opportunities... just to communicate. Without qoals, levels, fighting and other rubbish. A good training for intuition Laughing out loud
And it's so amazing when we feel what other deers want to say...
You're absolutely right about the language barrier! I could have never made friends here if TEF had a chat feature.

Thanks for the comment Eye

You reminded me of my own

You reminded me of my own discovery of this place. I had slightly different feelings coming in- I have lived near to wild deer for a good deal of my life, and have been out walking in their presence, and so came to the forest with some of those thoughts and feelings in mind. To find so many, for lack of a better word, rofling and dancing deer, I was a little thrown off. Then I met the blue stag.

Everything after that point has been me finding a purer core of myself, a place without words. It has affected the way I feel when I am out in real life. I am more observant of my own body language. And in the forest, I am free to the interaction I need without the burdens my mind puts on me. The connections I have made have varied and depth, but some have been so deep it shocked me.

It has been a safe and loving place to come at this chaotic time in my life.

I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Reminds me a bit of my first

Reminds me a bit of my first few days :3

"While we have a language barrier with our spoken language we can still communicate and enjoy each other through the language of The Endless Forest."
Very much agreed.
I can't think of another game which encorporates body language so thoroughly as TEF. I can name a couple where your positioning/posturing help get your message across, but it's not vital the way it is in TEF. In TEF, it's the only language - and that's what really breaks down all the barriers. It doesn't matter where you're from or what you speak; we all understand guestures, and the language of the Forest is so readily picked up that you don't really even have to think about it to learn and understand. It sets us all on the same level. No one breaks apart into language-barrier enforced cliques, because we don't have to in order to find people we get along with.

I think the forest is what

I think the forest is what you do, not with whom. Sure, everyone may be limited in ways others are not, but it's such a marvelous place, I can't say 'The forest needs a change' simply because it DOESN'T and never will need one. <33

The community...

What can I say? Words are harsher than most actions, really. But, we live and learn. Eye

I think... It's not about the posts, it's about what's in 'em.
