Just discovered something about Pictograms

Under the cut because of an extremely long text.

I will update this as I do more testing with Pictograms and discover new things.

I just found something cool you can do with your picto.

Well, I read Unplugged's post:

http://endlessforest.org/community/node/46206

And I messed with it for a little while. Turn's out Voice's real name is "1MRn4". I replaced the "4" with a "1" and got this:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1MRn1

I figured out that each letter/number means a slash/circle/ things in your picto. At least, thats what I think. I'm not really a techo geek.

I think "1" means nothing, because if it means something, then there would be something other than a "W" thing instead. But theres nothing.

So I did some testing and messed with her picto. I replaced "M" with an "A", and this was the result:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1ARn1

Then I deleted one of the letters. This was the result:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1AR1

So I learned that there must be 5 characters, or else the picto goes crazy. So then I thought, "Hmm... what if it had 6 letters?" So I added a new letter:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1ARnG1

Nothing changed. Unless it was because it was a capitol. So I changed it into lowercase:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1ARng1

No result.

So, I learned there must exactly be five letters, and each letter is basically a slash, a circle, or anything you see in a pictogram.

And now I am going to steal Honeyfur's picto to give you more examples:

Regular:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/pictogram.php?username=Honeyfur

With the letters:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1BZgz

With a letter messed up:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1BAgz

And the square was replaced by a circle.

Then I learned something new.

If the A was in a different place, so would the circle be in the picto. The order the letters are builds the picto. In plus, If a letter is in a different place, it will be different in the picto. For example, I'll steal HF's picto again and scramble the letters up. You may think it will be no different, but this is the result:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1GBzz

As you see, behind the flashing, you can see her picto has changed.

Then I started doing more tests. I saw a 1 and wondered what would happen if I replaced it with a different number/letter. So I did more testing on HF.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=2BZgz

Nothing happened. So then I replaced it with a letter.

Capitol:
http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=ABZgz

Lower Case:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=aBZgz

So the number did not do anything.

Ok. So. I thought I did about every test I could when I realized Voice and HF's picto were a Gen 2 picto. Gen 1 is different, so I knew there would have to be more tests done.

I knew Quad was a Gen 1 picto so I started testing on him.

Regular:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/pictogram.php?username=QuadRaptor

With Letters:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=MXky

I noticed something right away. Instead of five letters, Quad has four. So I think that First Generation pictos have four letters and 2s have five. And plus, no 1s. I stole MickKreiger's to see if I was right.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=Absv

And I was.

Did more testing. Added a letter.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=Absb

So it started to flash.

So I'm wondering: Are Gen 1 pictograms un-changeable and Gen 2 pictos are able to be changed?

So I messed with it more.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=Bbsv

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=Bbtv

So, with Gen 1 pictos, only the Capitol letters can be changeable without flashing.

Then, I thought, what if I added a number?

So I did:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=1Absv

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=2Absv

So, the number adds something, but also makes it flash.

So I came to a conclusion, but not a final one: Second gen pictos need five letters with a number, while First gen need four without a number.

Then I thought: Hold on. I said Second Gen need a number. But do they really?

I took HF's picto again and deleted the number.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=BZgz

So, with a Second gen picto, no number=no picto. A Second Gen picto needs a number or else it spazzes out.

Now, you may think everything is over, but it's not. Look though the Second Gen and First Gen links. Notice something different other than the letters? On a First Gen, it says "symbol". On a Second gen, it says "symbol2". I wondered if anything would happen if I changed A Second Gen Symbol into a First Gen, and a first Gen into a Second. I stole Quad's again and took Voice's, and switched two Generations around.

Voice:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=1MRn1

Quad:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=MXky

With Voice's, most of her picto flashes, but some of it stays the same. With Quad's, his goes completely crazy.

So, a Second Gen can somewhat be converted into a first Gen, but it is impossible with a First Gen.

I knew there was a lot more stuff to be discovered, so I did some more testing. What if a first gen had two numbers?

I took Quad's again.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=11MXky

It stays the same. Nothing flashes.

Now, finally, I am done with all these tests because there are no more I can think of.

I also learned something: If there will ever be Generation Three Pictograms, they will require six letters, and perhaps two numbers.

Now, while doing all of these tests, I realized that you could actually create and have fun with pictos. You can make wacky, cool, pictograms, if you knew a lot about them.

So I went and see if I could do that. I made both First Gen and Second Gen pictos.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=MWly

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=1ZBz1

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=12345

I just typed the numbers in and got that. So I tried to do it with a First Gen.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=1234

So I learned while trying to make pictos that you don't always have to put in a letter.

I messed around with the numbers.

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=1262

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol2.swf?word=17837

It seems with number, no matter what you put, nothing flashes.

So now that we're all done with that, I'll show you some things before you start to go crazy with pictogram creating.

-Numbers are much more easier to work with than letters. Try them first, then once you're starting to get the hang of it, try letters, but with A Second Gen.
-First Gen are very complicated. Start out with a Second Gen instead.
-First Gen pictos must always have four letters, and they either have no number or all numbers.
-Second Gens must have five letters, and at least one number.
-Letters mean slashes, circles, whatever you see in a picto. But they will be in different places and even change due to the order you put the letters in.
-Never type a link. Well, you can, but you should really copy and paste one then mess with it.

And now, special thanks to:

Unplugged, where I first started to test these tricks from.

Honeyfur, MickKreiger, Quad, and Voice, for being my guinea pigs.

P.S. Isn't it fun to mess with Pictos?

That is some serious epic you

Another Test! I'm sorry,

Another Test! Shocked

I'm sorry, I think this will be my last test! (probably not. I've gotten myself obsessed with these pictos.)

I will make... A generation three Picto!

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol3.swf?word=11MRn1

It's a fail.

I have a Master's degree in Wumbology.

No idea if this is a concern

No idea if this is a concern or not, but it might be worth asking the Tale of Tales team if such explorations are going to interfere with account registration. I have absolutely no idea if this is the case but my worries are based on having used viewing the pictogram (using the link system you've used) has been a work around for activating accounts for players who have lost their activation e-mail. I have no idea if viewing these pictograms would somehow make them un-registerable or if they are now registered, password-less accounts...or something. Coming from the generation that saw us actually run out of pictograms, I'd just hate to see that sort of thing happen again.

On the same note, this is very cool stuff you're discovering! It would be nice if this could be used to discover a way to find out which part of second generation pictograms is missing (between the In Forest depiction and the one from the web link, since one shape is usually missing when you play second gen accounts). I'd love a way around that annoying glitch!

Haha you're welcome? And

Haha you're welcome?

And hm..my account seems fine. i'm still logged in here, my picto on my thing is fine, the links to it still work, and I can still log in with it in the forest.

I was worrying about

I was worrying about something like that.

I'm actually worried about poor Quad and Honeyfur and MickKreiger and everyone else I tested. If something went wrong then It's all my fault and I would feel horribly bad. I should really stop testing. Plus, I'm wondering if working with Pictograms to find out more about how they would work would upset the Tale of tales. Plus, something might even go wrong with all the pictograms if I do something wrong.

I'll be so upset if this happens.

But, on the other side, I am thrilled to be discovering so much stuff. I'm not a technology geek or something, though this is so awesome to be doing.

I might have to contact them before I do any more tests. Thanks.

I've no idea if anything has

I've no idea if anything has gone screwy (Technology and I have not been talking for the last century), but it wouldn't hurt to ask Tale of Tales if it's ok/not going to mess anything up. *shrug*

-First Gen pictos must always

-First Gen pictos must always have four letters, and they either have no number or all numbers.

This is a first generation, and contains numbers and letters.

I only briefly skimmed through this and then read through your summary. Correct me if I missed something.

Weird, Lune. Well, we

Weird, Lune.

Well, we discovered two things: That and That First Generation Pictos are complicated.

At first I was confused by

At first I was confused by your post, couse it contain the information that I've mostly already know. But when i read it completely, and realized what it about, I understand that it's really epic!

BTW
The second gen pictos can be changed in first gen pictos, and you was wery close to it.
You just need to replace 'simbol2' by 'simbol' and delite '1' in picto's name.
Like here:

http://tale-of-tales.com/TheEndlessForest/register/symbol.swf?word=Mbhu - changed

This is also correct for the 1st gen pictos. But in that case we need to do it in the other way:

You did great job, thank you!

I was reading this and

I was reading this and something occured to me.
I run version 3.13 when people need DotD stuff cast and I've noticed with second gen pictos, they're converted into first gen-looking pictos. Maybe it has something to do with that, especially since I'd always thought if anything, that version wouldn't show second gen pictos altogether. Thought that was interesting.
