From what I've read, updates are -very- rare, once every couple years if you're lucky. However they are wanting to push the new phase so one may be coming. I think it might just be something in your settings. My language was different and I had to change it back to English, and there's settings for sound and everything as well. Make sure you have the right file and just try re-installing it. If it happens again, then maybe someone else knows how to fix it.

Right click the TEF icon and choose 'run as administrator' when you want to run the game. This usually fixes the problem you are describing.
