I don't understand anything on here and I want to

Hi! I made this account bc I was bored one day and found out about the Endless Forest and thought to myself 'Hey! This looks interesting!' and I've only been in game a few times.
Since then I just been stalking the forums and I've become increasingly confused on how things work around here. I don't understand how role playing here works, the lore, etc. I've tried the TEF directory but it didn't answer any of my questions at all,, I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on some topics!! If you don't want to explain on here then you could ask for my discord and you can talk to me there!
I hope I'll be able to be more active in game soon, though I don't know how active I'll be since I'm in school and it's draining me really quickly,,

Well, really, everyone

Well, really, everyone creates their own lore. Their own stories, settings, their own hybrid of characters.
The typical things around here(at least from what I seen) is magic and stuff.
It's actually easy to catch on once you get into it.
One thing about RPing is that the majority of people I've seen are always or almost always IC(in character), meaning if you see them in game, they'll act like the character portrayed in the biography(unless with a nameless, fawn, etc).
Sorry if I seem all over the place, trying my best to explain. ^^

Edit I also highly recommend downloading discord when RPing!! It helps clears up interactions in game, but it's a great way to communicate with your friends, fellow roleplayers, or people you're exchanging say-- money for an adopt. You can have group chats and such as well, so you can RP with more than one person at a time.(Sorry if you already have discord and I'm just uselessly rambling on!!)

Hoo, that's a big one, haha.

Hoo, that's a big one, haha. There's ssssooo much lore and everyone's lore is a little different.
Common lore, though, consists mainly of what you can find on the official TEF sites, mostly here.
In SUPER short tldr; style summary -
  • The Forest was created by the Twin Gods (game creators Auriea Harvey & Michaël Samyn), represented by the Twin God Statues (marble statues near the pond), who occasionally visit the deer (as giant deer avatars) and create festival-type interactions (Abiogenesis, the creation of life from non-life - when both of the Twin Gods are present within the Forest, the non-living marble statues lift and follow them around and the Twins create magic/life). That aside, the Twins are largely hands-off when it comes to the Forest.

  • The Ename Ruins were part of an event where souls were present and could be converted. Those which were not converted became the pagan statues near the ruins, and those which were converted became the many gravestones around the area.

  • Velocity, the Big Zombie Deer, visits during the month of October for Halloween festivities.

  • Other events (weather changes, holidays, etc) occur at the Twins' whim.

  • The pictogram halo between deers' antlers is a nod to the story of the conversion of Saint Eustace, who was approached by a deer with a crucifix in its antlers.

  • Pictograms are remnants of an ancient language no longer spoken or read.

  • Pictograms have generations, and are essentially a living timeline of the Forest's life and activity.

  • Additional canon and player-created pictogram lore can be found here.

  • Deer enter the Forest as fawns, and remain so for one month. Fawns cannot hold spells (pelts, antlers, masks) permanently like adults can because their magic is weaker and they are still learning. The fawn stage is a learning phase.

  • The First Forest came, well, first. It's the woods full of pine trees. The Birch Forest was added later. Various landmarks have been added over the years.

That's about it for canon lore...
Player-created lore is a whole 'nother beast and I won't really get into it. You kinda have to discover that for yourself by playing and interacting : P

Roleplaying here works about the same as it does anywhere else, if you've roleplayed elsewhere before, but there is the addition of in-game roleplay. In-game roleplay is entirely based on action and visual interaction, although many players supplement this with text roleplay either on the community or via a chat application such as Skype or Discord.

You may find additional information over on the Info account. It has a few resources the Directory may not.

Welcome to the Forest!

Oh okay! I didn't know people

Oh okay! I didn't know people were always IC when they're in game so thank you so much for clearing that up for me! I would love to rp with people but I'm incredibly nervous even though everyone seems so nice here! And I also don't have a deer character to rp as,,, Is there specific things that go into making a deer oc here or is the process the same as making any other oc?

They aren't always IC - in

They aren't always IC - in fact, there are many OOC 'characters'/players. It's generally best to check one of the available maps (official or player-made) to double check whenever possible so that you don't accidentally harrass an OOC deer.

Making a character is about the same here as everywhere else, although obviously the characters tend to be deer or deer-like.

Don't be nervous! As long as you're courteous to others here, they tend to be courteous to you!

I just wanted to say welcome!

I just wanted to say welcome! I hope you enjoy it here at TEF. It's a fun little community, especially once you start getting into RPs and making friends.

A lot of people hang out and RP on Discord, but if you prefer you can start RPs here on the community site as well. c:

OOC ones went right over my

OOC ones went right over my head, my fault but Aivilo is correct, there are many OOC characters.
I used to be extremely shy when RPing here(ngl, still a bit am) but it got better for me when I realized it was no big deal. They're characters interacting, no quarrels between the players, just characters being characters.
Once you start interacting with more and more characters and getting to know the players more and more, it gets easier! At least it did for me.
