I try to update once a day, sorry you have a problem with it.

I really don't know where the problem is :] It's normal to edit bios.
Besides I never need to check that page; all you should do is go to ''My account'' > ''Track'' to see the subjects that interest you.

I personally enjoy updating my bios, most likely because I'm an attention whore. I like getting attention. /shrug.

I understand what you're getting at.. but like said, there's the track function. And I also personally enjoy seeing what my friend's deer are doing/thinking if they're online/offline, I find it fun.

I agree with you Tally, and I don't think you sounded mean or anything. You got your point across and that's the main thing I think.

I don't mind the updates, I have my Track section for the important things I'm looking at but I see Diary updates as something of an amusing little story to read. As you said, there are people who out there love reading others bios. It's nothing bad and it's how this community works. *shrugs* I dunno, I just don't see it like HOMG THERE'S A SPAM OF BIOS D< I see it as people updating their stories.

I usually update Fever's bio one or two times a day, just for his forest activities and his growth in character. Kind of like an ongoing story. But then I have been guilty of accidental-bumping because I'd see a tag error in the post, or I see a typo that I HAVE to fix, and I end up going back to update it to fix it perfectly.

It's not that I mean to compete for people to read it, I'm just OCD about things like that. =/

But, if we took out all the bios and daily activity posts, what would the journal pages be used for...?

I understand where you're coming from; but I myself LOVE to update my bios, as well as see what others have written in theirs. You're welcome to your opinion, but I prefer having bios and such updated, so I know what's going on. As Sable said- there's always the Track button to keep up with things as well.

The moment the Live Forest map is working again, I'm deleting Walter's updates page and only keeping his bio.

People don't need to see how he's feeling. That's taking the magic out of TEF. :x

I don't see any wrong with this, since alot of people put their daily activities in the same post as their deer's bio so people can read how the deer is or what he/she had done that day.

However there are others such as me who have a special update page that tells about how my deer are and how I am. *you'll see the link in my siggy* I also have the links to my deer's bios from there.

I can see where you're getting at but sometimes we also develop our characters like their back stories, personalities, and their design. And there is also editing the bio when you want to add or remove something.



Updates

Well personally I don't see anything wrong with it either. If you havn't already noticed this game really isn't like normal mmorpg's. You get alot more creative people coming through here who really like to use their imagination. I think Biographies is what makes this place so interesting, since people like to give their character a personality, thoughts, etc... Like me, I really enjoy reading Biographies and if this place lacked that, well...I guess the endless forest wouldn't be as popular as it is now. Some characters aren't even deer. ^^; haha. Anyways, maybe it would be alittle more convenient if we had a separate page for Biographies only, since it takes up such a big portion of the site. But other than that, that's all I have to say. ; ) ^^

Tracking is just the same as "view recent posts". Every time you post something, it goes into your track page (just go to your account page, and click the "Track" button between "Edit" and "Address Book"). When you look through the list, it tells you if the topic has been updated, and how many people have replied since your last post.

I really don't know what the live forest map is, other than it showed every deer in the forest at one point. It's been down a good while.

It was really just a quick thing. I was trying to point out how there are so many bios n' such getting all this attention while the stories and introductions and TEF parties or whatever are being bumped down. (Thanks for the charts, Shimmy. |D)

And like I said up top, I don't have anything against anyone who updates more than once a day or whatever. I was just pointing something out. :/

Also to people mad at 'other' content being bumped down: Maybe im just a nice person, or maybe a touch of ocd, but i make sure that i go back a page or two to the last thing i saw that way i don't miss anything i might have wanted to see. Surely im not the only one...? i mean, you've seen all thats on the front page, why not go back another?

Really, this is all anyone does. They tell each other, "OH! My 'mate' is online! Let's go do some random stuff."

This is all for RPG-cr-stuff. We need a seperate section for RPG-related things....

Hahah, I spot an update of mine in there. ': D
I didn't realize bio updates could be an annoyance. I, like many others, personally don't mind them because I think it's absolutely interesting to read about other people's deer, but I also do understand it can be a bit frustrating to screen the diary section with your gaze and see nothing but bio updates when you're trying to find something specific. Like someone suggested (can't remember who) we really ought to have some sort of option for deciding how our posts will be submitted and displayed in the main category sections such as Diaries, which would also call for a way to screen the posts. For instance, we could have a drop down menu from which to choose sub categories we want to view such as stories, bios, rpgs and so on, much like what you can do in LJ's friends sections. That'd make it easier to screen the Diaries section.

In the mean while I guess it's not much use to make a shared update page for my deer, really. I mean, if everyone made an update page their own deer would share with each other, the diary section would then just be full of those pages instead of bio updates. Um, I guess you can't please everyone? D: Still, I guess I will make a shared update page and update it instead of the whole bio whenever I feel like jotting down one of my deer's stats. I like writing down their stats and reading about other's because I think stats and bios are a lovely feature of the playing experience and a guide to understanding your fellow deer better. <3 And what's best, you can also shrug them off if you don't want to unveil some of the Forest's magic by knowing detailed information about other deer. : D Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

I guess what's frustrating, especially for me, is that as a writer, when I write a story for Bylah, it can easily get lost in all of the perpetual updates. There's no seperate section, as people have pointed out, just for updates, or just for bios. We have a section for Pictures; I feel that there should be one for maybe Stories, and then the Diaries. I don't mind reading updates at all! I really like them and I do see Bios as sort of Diaries, because as people have pointed out, a lot of people have what their deer are feeling/thinking/etc in them.

I just wish that seeing as artists have an area to put their creative stuff, people who write should have one too, instead of it getting lost in all of the updates/bios.

Like I said, I'm not trying to start a debate, so please let's not form sides. This was just something interesting I wanted to point out. :/

I agree, I never read updates because I like finding people at random in the forest and I'm not really interested at what you are doing at every moment of the day. I don't know like whole 'online now' thing for the same reason, I miss the randomness of the forest so I don't participate in it. It's nothing against those people who do it, it tarnishes the spirit of the game for me. I don't read bios unless I'm looking for the persons character to see their deer specifically.

I find it hard to keep topics I'd like to see up on the first page like peoples stories, diaries, events and community messages. I try to keep the Calendar update where people can see it and within half an hour it's already off the page and by the next day it's pages back where no one is going to see it. It's hard to run community events when no one can even see them. Some of us can't be here every day to read everything.

I think it was a good topic to bring up, you don't have to apologize. It's nice to have everyones opinions heard.
