Help? Resizing and transparent background for a picture signature:(

Hello!

I am very new to the site and, also, very clueless on some things, as you can see.
I have noticed a great amount of users have picture messages as their signatures and I am really wanting to do it, too. I tried it once following this which only ended up with not only a white background, but absolutely huge in size.
Is the transparency and and the size only determined in the program you use to make your picture in? Or am I doing something wrong considering the the steps of the tutorial in my link?

I feel stupid asking this.
But thank you for your time.

EDIT: Also, the program I used for the picture my first time was MS Paint if that changes anything.

MS Paint doesn't do

MS Paint doesn't do transparent pictures, as far as I know. Background transparency depends on whether or not your program is capable of doing it, and the file type you save the image as.
If you'd like, I can try to make it transparent for you. I can't garuntee it'll be perfectly clean if the edges of your image are semi-transparent, but it'd be something.

You could use the GIMP to cut

You could use the GIMP to cut out the background on MSpaint pictures. Could try that. It's also free Smiling Just need to save it as a PNG file for the transparency to work.

Aivilo: Ohhh I understand. I

Ohhh I understand.
I am a huge MS Paint artist and I just casually use it a lot without thinking about what I can and cannot do ^^'

And thank you for the generous offer! But I also have Sai downloaded onto my computer, so I will just use it next time.

Again, thank you!

Oh, and you don't need to

Oh, and you don't need to make the image small. it can be huge, and then just use the following code to resize it.

<*img src="wwww.URL.url" height="#here"*>

Take out the stars and place the information where you need it Smiling You only need the height because then it automatically resizes the width so it doesn't look distorted.

SoliloquyChryseis: Thanks for

SoliloquyChryseis:
Thanks for the advice! But I also have Paint Tool Sai so I will just use that for the transparency and to completely redo the picture since I have made some major changes in the character of my picture between the time I made it and now ^^
However, I will keep that all in mind Smiling

EDIT: Thank you, again, for the code!
