Or hopeless? I don't rightly know.
I have been browsing the community for a little while, and. . .consider the hell intimidated out of me. My stag's got the default everything, I'm terrible at art, and I'm a bit stupid when it comes to this internet thing, so feel free to tell me I'm doing it wrong. I don't think I fit the requirements to be here.
At least I've got a decent grasp of what kind of personality I'd like Muirenn to have. Unfortunately, he's not the most socially graceful creature.

Don't worry, I'm new too and though not too shabby in the arts department I'm lacking a tablet and bascially everything needed. ;] Everyone seems really nice here though, so I just mull around the forest and make friends.

Ah, thank you guys for the nice, mostly-not-frightening welcome.

I did notice the peacock-tree-deer colony but. . .decided it might be best not to question it. xD

How do you all recognize each other around the forest? Is it just by pictogram and knowing what each others' deer look like?

I guess I shouldn't say that I suck at art. I suck at drawing deer and foresty landscapes. I want to get my hands on a tablet so bad, but I should really focus on my traditional art. Digital art is incomprehensible right now.

Most players stick to one set

Most players stick to one set as to not confuse people, but the Picto's are displayed as the deer's 'in-game' idenitification tag.

It just takes a while to get better at art, keep trying and i'm sure you will get it ^^
Before I came here I would have never thought of drawing deer, and now I draw them every chance I get c:

hello there!

the picto thing is crucial but when you do not remember it, the set the deer have gives a great help too ;D

about art and stuff, with some practice and pacience you can master everything!

Welcome to TEF! The community site is terrifying, and I can see why you might be aware of artistic ability and the like, but I assure you that's not what TEF is all about =) Consider the community site as a seperate entity to the game and you'll be just fine!

My advice to a newcomer such as yourself would be to run about in-game and have fun with other players; worry about your character and suchlike later when you've experienced the game for all it is. In time you'll recognise what avatars/pictograms sit well with you and your playing style =)

That's what I keep trying to tell myself, Dajhi.

I'm newer to the community than I am to the game. I've been playing for about a month (Muirenn's already a stag), but I'm still pretty clumsy with the controls.
But mvioewpga I just installed the 3.31 patch, and when I tried to log on to the game, my deer didn't show up at all. :/ I'm going to try uninstalling and then just re-installing the whole game.

Also, is there anywhere I can browse the sets?

Welcome and don't fret about

Welcome and don't fret about it all. I know the constant barrage of writing, bios, art, role-play etc. can be a bit overwhelming at first but you get use to it. We're a very welcoming bunch.

Have fun running around in forest and socializing with other deer. THEN come back when you have a firm idea who your deer is and tell it to all of us.

There is no right or wrong way to go about it.

As for recognizing other deer:
Picto and set.
Chances are you'll start to recognize some of the pictograms and appearances. I know more deer by appearance than pictogram, but I too am starting to put names to faces. x)

You'll find many of them look like things such as objects, numbers, letters, animals etc. so it makes it easier to remember.
