My silly friend... [Dag's challenge]

For this

The pronghorn bounded in the Forest, holding his head up curiously. The leaves haven't fallen. "It's too late for all of this...", he said to himself and the surrounding trees.

Pent approached one of the older trees, tilting his head at it, "Why do you retain your leaves? Have you forgotten the seasons? The Autumn tradition is for the trees to give up their leaves. So why do you keep them?"

The tree spoke to him, and he tilted his head once more. "My silly friend, there is no shame in giving them away. It's their time to go. You should know that, of all the trees in the Forest, you should be well aware that you will have new leaves by the Spring."

Pent continued, "Don't forget the cycle, all of us must go through it. Birds, deer, trees, grass, fish, bugs...every one of us will find our resting time. But death is not the end, as the moment we die, a brand new soul is born. The same goes for your leaves. They have worked so very hard this year, but it is their time to die, and when they fall, new leaves will come."

The tree spoke once again. Pent gave a slight smile, "Am I worried about dying? Haven't you been listening to me? When I die, a new fawn will be born. Now doesn't that sound beautiful? Never be afraid of the things to come, my friend."

The pronghorn bowed and walked off, looking to the other trees. He would begin to explain it to each and every one of the trees who kept their leaves.

Never be afraid of the things to come...

Quad's Photography - Fall Colors on Campus

Heya guys, here's some more photos for you!

My grandmother's garden club has a Japanese garden near where my school is. While it's not in bloom right now (which I'm going to go back by near the spring to see it again), there were some pretty fall colors there:

I think I took some photos of Three Mile Creek on my college's campus, but here's some more photos for you:

Here's the Glenn Sebastian Nature Trail. No wildlife sadly, but it is very serene and I enjoy walking it from time to time:

Here's Three Mile Creek again, but from a different area.

Unrestrained

The leaves are falling, the green is gone from them. They've lost their vitality, and now fall to the ground, blanketing the earth and roots below the tree's branches.

One by one, they let go, giving the last moment of their life to enjoy the feeling and exhilaration of falling, letting the wind carry them to the ground. At last, they rest with their kin at the feet of the tree, a tribute to the hard work they have done for the year.

Even leaves know their limits, and in their last moments they often express the greatest beauty of their life, changing their color, going away from the crowds of green to the vibrant, outspoken reds, oranges, yellows, and violets.

When we conceal ourselves by following what is 'socially acceptable', we are often overlooked and branded as a part of the crowd. It's when we step away from the ordinary and show our true colors that we become an individual and enjoy life unrestrained.

"Holly on the Old Oak" development thread

Heya, I had an idea but I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for it.

I'd kind of like to write a series of Christmas stories for you all. And if at all possible, I'd love to get a little community involvement on what kind of a theme for each, who should be in them, ect. I haven't decided about opening up character slots for all of them or if a few will be generic stories. I'd like these to be a gift to everyone anyway

So here's what I'd like if you guys don't mind answering a few questions. And if you want to 'agree' with anyone's responses, please do so - it'll help me decide what ideas are popular and such.

1 - What kind of a Christmas story should it be? What should it be about?
2 - Who should be in the story? Should it be generic animals? Should it involve specific TEF characters?
3 - Should there be a theme or moral to the story?
4 - Should the story be based on a popular Christmas song? And if so, which song?
5 - Lastly, what suggestions or ideas do you have?

I'm going to write twelve stories altogether, so any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I'm planning on writing a few now and posting them starting December 1st. Keep checking this for when I have character slots available for stories, too! They will be in bold below

I officially have 12 stories now. Thank you to everyone who came up with suggestions. I could use one or two more deer for the Night Before Christmas and Rudolph stories but otherwise I should be good on characters too.

----------------------------------

Ideas so far (striked out = I've gotten it written, but it won't be posted until December 1st or later, and ** = I started it but haven't finished yet) :

[s]Quad - A deer walks in a dreary winter night, finding a town where Christmas lights seem to warm his spirit. A child in the town has a Christmas wish, and he hears it...

Quad's Directory of Photography

I'm working on getting back to my photography, and I'm going to set this up the same way as my Directory of Writing.

Describe yourself with a landscape...

Just another idea I had - google a landscape that represents you and post it here with a short description of why it is you.

Here's mine:

Here I stand at the base of a long trail. A distant mountain sits and waits for me to climb it. The path winds, having many ups and downs as I walk it. I see my goals in my life, and it will be a long and tough path to get to them, but when I finally make it on top of that mountain, the view will be breathtaking.

And I'll enjoy the walk as best as I can.

Quad's Photography - Ginkgo Tree and Back Country

This is our ginkgo tree in my back yard, from about 7:35 AM this morning.

And here are a few pictures of the 'back country' near my house. The first three are of Kudzu, which is an indigenous plant to my area that grows out and covers large areas. I love the look of it because when you look at it from a distance, it's got the look of slime or goo that's covered the land. These were taken from the other side of a street that I didn't want to cross Eye

And then this is some weird little canyon that serves as a water reservoir.

Light within the Darkness

When the world feels like it's coming down on you
When the future is frightening and uncertain
When the past continues to haunt you
When the last bit of confidence you have fades
When you struggle to see yourself
When you find yourself shrouded in darkness
Remember that you have me
I am always the warmest light
I am always a body for you to rest upon
I am always here
