Most of my characters were inspired in some way by the picto they have. Since I am on a phone I have a hard time linking, but if you go into my blog you can find my bios.
A good way is to simply experiment. Get a feel for a character by playing them without s bio first. Many people have character designs they are giving away or selling. That's another good place to start.
