Can we all show a little restraint please?

Please?

l have been seeing a ton of new characters being created by older players. I would be all for it as it's an expression of creativity, but the amount of third generation pictos being registered is causing them to dwindle at an alarming rate. I would just like to caution all current players to be careful about how many new pictos you are registering right now. It would be wise to really consider a character before registering a brand new account for them. Otherwise please recycle an old picto you aren't using at the moment. We can't have new players without pictos for them.

Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to be the "Pictogram Police" or anything, just putting a concern out there. Anyone who wants to argue about my post can contact me on Skype (just_ rae). Otherwise, feel free to post your thoughts below.

Tera also had some good ideas, please consider them as alternatives!

One thing that can be done is to create characters that are Community Site characters only. These are ones that do not have a pictogram. This sort of play works really well for characters that you can't represent, or due to an aggressive/obnoxious nature, don't want to play in game. I've used this before for two of my characters and ended up having amazing RP experiences with them and getting more meaningful contact than in game! Just because a character is fun to draw and RP doesn't mean they NEED a pictogram. You can draw and RP without one, using your main account! This is also a fantastic way to 'test drive' a new character, to see if you will actually continue to play them. If you find yourself growing bored of them within a few weeks, don't register a pictogram for them. If you find yourself really growing attached and the character is rewarding for you, consider giving it a unique account (if that character would benefit from being in The Forest itself).

Another is to recycle existing pictograms, either those you have yourself, or ones that other members aren't using. Loads of members recently have been offering up pictograms for re-use and that's great!

It's not just older players,

It's not just older players, I've seen new players (I define new as less than a year old) registering more pictograms in a few months than I did in my five years of being here. I personally get frustrated when I see someone registering more pictograms then seeing those same accounts stagnating within a few weeks/months (because that player has moved onto yet another new character with a new pictogram).

To temper the above negativity (which is all personal opinion), I've got some ideas on ways players of any TEF 'age' can still play characters without reducing the number of pictograms available for registration.

Thanks for the reassurance,

Thanks for the reassurance, guys.

I define 'older players' as anyone who has been on this community and established themselves. It's not as much about time for me as it is that they are here and not just checking things out.

Tera, would you mind if I quoted you up on the main post, to bring your ideas to attention as well?

The only reason I made a new

The only reason I made a new pictogram was because my older character really had nothing going for her anymore and I wanted to start over again and make new friends... I didn't originally plan to make a new account, but meh :/ I only intended on doing it once, though, and I'm sticking to it :3 No pictos wasted on me! Laughing out loud

I had noticed (when creating

I had noticed (when creating my back up account) the picto generator was acting slow. Is this the cause?

Would back up accounts count for this? My friend who plays said I could give myself "spelldata", to have a back up outfit for deer... So that's kind of a reason I did it. Sad

Spelldata is not available in the 3.41 version, Lambfleece... I'm kinda confused.

Having a couple accounts that you play regularly is perfectly fine, but when you have more than you need that you just let sit... that's what I'm talking about.

I only have the one I'm on

I only have the one I'm on now. I thought about a second one but I like Jun and don't see a need for a second character. I don't know how some people can have so many, as many as 5 or 6? How do they keep up with them all?

I'm sticking with June. Might consider a second but as long as her activity stays where it's at then I see no need for more characters.

Aw, glad to hear my comment

Aw, glad to hear my comment was well received. I like to try and be constructive when I can. I'd be happy if you included some of the ideas in the original post Apoidea!

A little while back, I let my

A little while back, I let my little brother register an account so that he could play his own deer, since I was tired of letting him mess around with mine, but he quickly forgot all about TEF, and so I recently commandeered his account to use as an OOC deer. I also have one other account that is just for the purpose of being a rabbit. Other than those three accounts, I don't think I'll be needing any more, so rest assured that I will not be stealing any more generation 3 pictograms. lawl.

Apoidea: maybe it's not called that, I meant like... Transferring your set? As long as it's to my own account only of course. Smiling And, ok. I do play them both whenever I get the chance, and only have two. Smiling

Oh, and I do love your idea, Terabetha!! Its actually a pretty wonderful way to start off a character/test one out.

i agree with this, i've seen

i agree with this, i've seen many people make loads of new characters and never use them... leaving the pictos to rot and are never seen again.
my idea is..
if you need a picto ask the community
throw down a 'looking for a picto' blog
for un-used pictos you can use, and others will give them,
most of my other chars got their pictos that way, like moth c:
