Biographies?

I'm going to sound stupid, but... what are these biography thingies people are posting? I really enjoy reading them and seeing the artsy deer of all the people here but I don't really get it. I've been around for over 4 years now but since I just got back from a hiatus I'd appreciate it if someone would enlighten me on the subject.
And lastly, how do you make your own? Java is like advanced maths to me, impossible to comprehend and I was wondering if there was another way to do one. Thank you!

You don't sound stupid at

You don't sound stupid at all, it's a reasonable question! For people who use the game to roleplay and tell stories, having a biography is like having a reference sheet for every character. For instance, sometimes I run into someone I don't know in the forest and look them up with the map, find the player's page, and then read the biography to learn about the character my deer has met in the forest.

They're made with HTML, CSS, and sometimes Javascript (different from Java so might be easier for you!) just like any other website on the internet. I learned a lot from Unplugged's guide here about CSS basics, here about how the default TEFc page is put together and here a huge collection of links around TEFc with other helpful tidbits. I also HIGHLY recommend the site W3 Schools, which teaches all kinds of coding for websites. I saw Javascript for the very first time on this site and got into it pretty easily with W3's help.

I'd recommend playing with things and trying them out for yourself to see what you can do, but if you are impatient there are a number of users who have made templates that people can use for their biographies, though most still require a basic understanding of HTML and CSS to customize. I'd also be willing to make you a custom page if you know how you want it to look.

Thank you for your patience

Thank you for your patience with me and my dummy head, AlisonRobin! Smiling

Thanks so much for the advice, I need to look up some tutorials on the programs so I can get started.
Reading everybody's bios is just too much fun. *stalks*

You ain't no dummy. Dummies

You ain't no dummy. Smiling Dummies are people who never ask questions because they think they know everything.

I love reading bios too. I like to catch up on all the characters' adventures and stories, it's like trying to keep track of a zillion books all at once, and there's a huge variety.
