Animals and me

AngelWings's picture
To those who know me pretty well...

I want to know what animal(s) you would describe me as. For example (not really, just random animals)an otter, or a bear, or an otter-bear? anything works! I'm trying to find my "spirit-animal...where did that come from? O.O

Sorry, Angel but if you want

Sorry, Angel Smiling but if you want to find your spirit animal you'll have to meditate on it, it's not something someone else can tell you. However, an animal representation of you based on your personality... I'm thinking.... something curious, energetic, and small. Like a lil squirrel or a kitten

Check out this website, it

Check out this website, it has a lot of neat information about spirit animals and totems:

http://www.whats-your-sign.com/index.html

I found out a lot about some animals I am associated with, including the goose and the hummingbird.

Here's the link for the animal totems on the site:

What's the best way to

What's the best way to meditate? >.< I need to lose my outer shell of falseness and be myself, who I truly am to find my spirit animal.
-Tabby

Well, what I DO know of

Well, what I DO know of meditation is that you need to relax, and shut out all the noise inside your head (being one with a mind as noisy as 1000 sqwuaking parrots and attempting meditation, that's not as easy as it sounds). It might take a while, but eventually, you should be able to shut out that noise. Then I suppose whatever it is you seek will come to you.

I'm not sure why you feel finding your spirit animal will reveal the true you, but that is entirely your choice. I've got no qualms with it.

Spirit animals are also not

Spirit animals are also not representations of yourself, so while they might have a few traits in common they likely won't be 'you', so asking people to describe an animal that they think represents you ins actually counter-intuitive. Traditional spirit guides (animal or otherwise) will have a personality that partners well with your own, but that is different from you in some profound way. This difference could be something as blatant as you being shy, and your guide being confident, but can also being something far more subtle. Through your guide you can seek to improve yourself, by learning from what they have to teach you. If your animal guide is no different from yourself, you are either perfectly content with who you are and where you are in life, or your mind has just latched onto an animal you think is cool. If this happens, try looking a bit deeper and meditation some more.

Ok thanks Tera! It helps

Ok thanks Tera! It helps greatly! For example, I am rather clumsy(in my eyes) and a deer is graceful idk probably not that. -sits down and meditates-

I'm fairly new to meditation

I'm fairly new to meditation myself, but I find that it's all about A) where you are and B) what pose you are in. Like people have said before, meditating in a noisy area is really tricky but some people find total silence isn't best either. Try experimenting, put on some background noise (gentle instrumental music for example. I have a singing bowl that I use.) and see what works for you.

When it comes to posing, I found that a pose that was comfortable but one I wouldn't fall asleep in was best. I ended up laying on the floor on my back with my arms at my sides, but again, it's whatever works for you. Be prepared to be in the pose for an hour...I ended up falling asleep the first few times I meditating which, while relaxing, was not what I was going for lol.

A good practice I've figured

A good practice I've figured out is to sit in a comfortable, quiet place, and let yourself relax. Breathe calmly, close your eyes, don't even think about anything.

Soon you may start to envision a place - it could be a meadow, it could be a forest, it could be ancient ruins, it's your vision. As you sit there in this place, take in everything around you. What do you smell? What do you hear? What do you see?

An animal may appear before you. It may be an animal you know a little about, it may be a favorite animal, it may be one you're completely unfamiliar with. They may appear from the treeline, they may fly from the sky, just let them appear.

Don't rush them, let them come to you. They may be hesitant, but over time you may be allowed to pet them. Remember that if at any time they start snarling at you or you feel threatened, just open your eyes. That has happened before, it's perfectly common.

After you have this vision, try learning more about the animal. They may be trying to tell you something. All animals are associated with different traits, so they may want you to learn more about yourself.

Remember, you can have more than one animal. I have several myself. And just because an animal isn't flashy or popular does not mean they are not a strong guardian. One of mine, for example, is the Goose, and a wonderful trait of the Goose is that they are loyal and generous.

Another thing that is useful is knowing what animal you are associated with by your birthdate:

March 21 to April 19 ~ Red-Tailed Hawk or Falcon
April 20 to May 20 ~ Beaver
May 21 to June 21 ~ Deer
June 22 to July 21 ~ Brown Flicker or Woodpecker
July 22 to August 21 ~ Sturgeon or Salmon
August 22 to September 22 ~ Bear
September 23 to October 22 ~ Raven or Crow
October 23 to November 21 ~ Snake
November 22 to December 21 ~ Elk
December 22 to January 20 ~ Snow Goose or Owl
January 20 to February 18 ~ Otter
February 19 to March 20 ~ Cougar

I'd like to point out that

I'd like to point out that you may not even see your spirit animal. I only tried to meditate once. Sat in the park and relaxed against a tree. Nothing special happened. But in the next couple of days, at school, we had our school-wide test. Total silence. And out of absolutely nowhere I hear an elephant! Clear as day! So, yea, lol my two cents right there c:

I had it once where I put in

I had it once where I put in a Native American music CD in my car, and when it started up, I had a vision of a coyote running across the desert. It was then that I became very interested in coyotes and what they symbolize.

That's really cool!
