This question has been nagging me ever since I read that one thread. However, I didn't (and still don't) want the discussion to target me.
At the moment, I don't care so I might as well say it before anxiety comes back.
Without beating around the bush, I want to know if it's okay for Pl ayers to do NSFW things with their deer ingame? And no, I don't mean having a fling with some random deer (that's dangerous imho), but with someone you genuinely know. Like a real life friend that you know is a mature adult and not some horny kid.
And just to add a little more detail, I'm aware that the actions are no-no in front of other deer. But is it okay if we do it in private or just cut th e jazz altogether? Sorry, I come from one too many servers that say "if you keep it out of sight it's okay".
I'm sure I'm not th e only roleplayers that does NSFW things on the side, so answering this may clear things up for other players. And no, I'm not referring to anyone specific.
And no, I'm not going to go posting or advertising NSFW things on the forums. That's just dumb (I kind of already broke that rule but I'm going to delete this thread after a few answers or so) imo.
If this is too inappropriate to even ask, I can delete this by request if any of you want. And no. I do not currently do this behavior in th eforest, because I don't know if its okay or not.
Also I'm not aware of exactly how big the number of kids are on here. So far I've seen a few people over 18 (I'm 19), so I'm assuming there's a fair number of adults or no?
Ill leave th e thread up for an hour or so unless someone says me to delete th is immediately.
Well, I personally do not
And I am a roleplayer, main reason why I get on my computer.
So I would have to sit down in this category of NSFW roleplayers, along with yourself.
With any fandom that you find, there is always going to be the smut and the such, and I doubt there is absolutely no one out there in the TEF fandom who has participated in writing or drawing such things. I mean, the characters we play are basically deer, and sex is a natural part of life.
I have not participated
yetin a TEF rp of this nature. But I've been roleplaying for eleven, twelve years, and so have, and am doing my fair share of rps like that.
I do not have any problems with people who rp NSFW themes - which doesn't always include sex, but that is what most people think when they see such - just so long as they respect other people and keep it in some place where only they, or a select few can see it.
Reason why I like tumblr with its read mores, and then just rping on Skype too.
i mean if you do it in
and they are your characters so i mean no one can tell you otherwise
/i mean i personally dont want to see it on the comm though.. because //asexualnoises// & the kiddos
Echoing the above, I am fine
As long as the thread says
However, the game wasn't meant for NSFW things, so I'm torn on that one.
Don't give a crap. Just keep
also oocly acknowledge the sensitivity of some subjects, and put warnings where appropriate and easy to see. Don't oocly romanticize bad things like abuse, as that can create a harmful influence on more impressionable people...
.
Just going to start by saying
I'm not fond of seeing sexual NSFW content acted out within the game. If people want to role play that aspect of their characters thats cool but I feel like a private role-play over a messenger service like Skype is a better venue for several reasons (not just my own comfort).
First and foremost: It's really hard to establish consent within the game due to there not being verbal chat. As a player who doesn't have access to TEFc while playing, if I see one deer humping another, I'm going to assume it's being done as an act of trolling. There is a long history hotkey actions like that being used as an attempt to annoy, so I feel I wouldn't be alone in reading the actions with that intent.
As I'm thinking this through it also seems unlikely people would try to RP out those sorts of actions through In Game mechanics alone. I mean realistically speaking these are deer avatars with no junk, I don't know how much rubbing them against one another does for people character development wise but I'll leave that tangent as is. I'm assuming that players taking part in that sort of thing would hypothetically also be Role Playing via text...so it should be an easy enough step to just cut out the 'creative' use of actions in game.
In terms of 'thinking of the children' the important thing to remember is that this game is pitched as an any-age-group, peaceful, escape from the daily stress sort of atmosphere. Now the TEFc has pretty much abandoned that for all intensive purposes, but In Game, The Endless Forest is still devoid of NSFW content. Even any violence or sexual content is very much by interpretation only. That being said I think it's pretty hard to mis-interpret humping. I mean I could brainstorm a few excuses for the action that aren't sexual (insert 'just helping my friend scratch an itch' joke here) but it's still going to look like humping to the vast majority of people seeing it.
My estimate would be that the majority of people who play TEF are either close to or are above 18 years old. Taking a moment to shout at you all;
Role playing Explicit Sexual content with a minor when you are yourself a legal adult is a great way to get yourself in hot water. Be sure you are comfortable with the age of your partner(s).
Legal shouting aside, I think keeping sexual NSFW content off the site and in private messager/email services isn't going to make it difficult for players. I suspect that's the case already. I also appreciate the number of players who have been tagging things and putting up disclaimers on blogs containing sensitive topics. That does a lot for me personally and it's something I'd love to see continue for the NSFW content that has been allowed on The Community (graphic violence mostly, assaults, stuff like that).
edit: oh man reading what everyone else wrote, I think I was way too wordy :'D whoops
Sexual content would not
Just.... Keep it away from others eyes. Like most everyone already said.
Yay, positive comments~! I
Plus it's very common to see things like "GTFO YOU SICK FURRY" or something. Not that I've been subject to it, but you still hear about it.@Terabetha
Yeah, I've noticed that even though there's technical "no rules" for this site or the game, there's still the effort from the community to put everything in order to benefit everyone -- or at least the majority. Not that it's a bad thing, that's pretty much how cultures ((in this case a subculture)) and communities are supposed to work.
And nah, you weren't wordy at all. Trust me, I can write the equivalent 10 essays in a row without stopping in one post. If only I can do that with schoolwork...
@Acurna
I will never understand why human culture is like that. Though that by itself speaks exactly how powerful culture can be if it prioritizes the teaching of an ideology rather than basic body functions and processes. It's quite scary if you look at the more extreme examples of it.
Also, if two deer were to go at it in the pond, wouldn't they be contaminating our only water source in the forest? D:
@Everybody Else
Thanks for replying. I feel a bit at ease now. I WOULD RESPOND TO EACH ONE INDIVIDUALLY BUT I HONESTLY HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SAY?
But thank you though.
Also, should I leave this thread up for future reference for other players? Or just go ahead and delete it since it has been answered? Up to y'all because now I don't know what to do with it.

This is from 2008, so it's likely not entirely accurate any more (I was in the 15-20 slot then, lol), but it'll give you an idea of our demographic.
Most of us don't care a lot about NSFW stuff as long as it's either offsite or greatly played down/done very respectfully/difficult to find on-site - meaning not in titles, the main post, preferably not on the first page of the blog, put a warning at the top of the page if the character or blog is prone to the subject, etc. I've seen a lot of people puff up when there's profanity in a blog's title, and I don't appreciate it either, personally.
As far as the game goes... It's generally pretty hard to tell if you're being inappropriate unless you have your deer humping another one, lol. I'd still take that sort of thing to Skype, personally, though - 1, to prevent myself from annoying those who do care and might be able to interpret and 2, to prevent miscommunication with the other player ("They were just snuggling, right?" "...I thought they were boinking, weren't we going to have kids?" is not a conversation I want to have later).
I don't think it's really necessary to delete this post. It's not like you're running around waving a red flag like "WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO #@$ ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME" or whatever - you just had a question, lol. Plus it'll fall to the bottom after the chatter has died down, anyways, and just be lurking somewhere for reference.
EVERYONE'S ALREADY SAID
there's also the problem of, you know, minors being able to access NSFW material on the site if it's up there, but that's a whole other barrel of fish aND I'M REALLY ONLY QUALIFIED TO TALK ABOUT TRIGGERS TBH.
EDIT: ALSO FOR THE RECORD i write smut and triggering material all the time, i just doN'T THINK TEF IS REALLY THE PLACE FOR IT.
Keep it out of the forest/off
But like, do whatever you want over skype or whatever you use, no one can or should police you on that. Basically what my opinion boils down to.
Nothing to add but agreement
Sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll
Jk. Kinda.
On a more serious note, Tera hit the nail on the head.
