Words of Wisdom for Fawns/Newbies

Apoidea's picture
Alright, all of you older/senior members need to help me out!

Please post simple pearls of wisdom for new players and fawns.
These can be from your deer's perspective or yours, or even both.
Just make them kind, please.

From Moss and I:

Just because you cannot keep your magic, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it while you have it.

Here we are: Don't be

Here we are:

Don't be discouraged if it seems like we're ignoring you. A lot of us are doing RPs while we're in the forest, or we're AFK doing things like drawing. Some characters also don't like fawns, this is nothing personal, it's just playing. Many fawns are willing to play with other fawns, and adult stags too, it just takes a bit of patience. (:

Bowing to others is

Bowing to others is considered to be very polite. And who knows where that one bow will lead you/your character! Might find a best friend like that. ^^

I'm kind of a newbie, myself, but here's a list of helpful resources I've collected. Also, I've learned the hard way that to post to this community, you have to first remove the Display Name from your account's Personal Information; otherwise you get an error message saying you need a valid author name.

Don't try so hard to remember

Don't try so hard to remember where everything is, let things stay mysterious as long as you want.

I tried to memorize the layout of the forest and succeeded a short time after my first fawn grew up, now it feels very small.

And play with other fawns. I'd always feel very lonely when not even the fawns would play with me.

Don't try to do what everyone

Don't try to do what everyone else is doing just to fit in, trying hard to fit in doesn't work.

Don't rush into having a mate or fawn too early, as that can inhibit your ability to make more friends by limiting you to a certain group.

Play the game for awhile before trying to get heavily involved in the community. Learning manners there does help in learning manners here. Sit back and take the time to read things, learn how they go before posting. We're a bit more mature in our behavior than other sites, as players here are a wider variety of ages. This isn't WolfQuest, Neopets, or FeralHeart. Things do work differently here.

Learn to listen. Don't just get an idea stuck in your head and go with it. Sometimes advice will lead you in a better direction.

Make a screenshot blog

Make a screenshot blog whenever you're playing in the Forest ((Here's a good example of one)) and ask who you interacted with in the photos. It's a great way to break the ice and make new friends, and also your screenshots will be a wonderful reference of memories when you want to look at them again.

I also recommend uploading them to www.photobucket.com and linking them with image tags ( [ img] [/ img]) I can help explain this better if you're unsure, please feel free to ask me on skype. Eye

Thankyou for posting this, I

Thankyou for posting this, I for one really appreciate the advice as I'm always nervous coming in to a new community. I really stand behind the bowing advice- I do it to be polite on meeting a new deer, and today a chance encounter started politely and led to hours of play. It was delightful!

Inquiring minds, and by that I mean mine, would love to know if it's alright to post a 'bio' of my fawn at the moment? I sadly lack the amazing design skills of others on here, but I'd love to get my fawn out there.
thelittleraven's picture

@Sylvestrix: By all means, go

@Sylvestrix: By all means, go ahead! You don't need amazing design to make a biography. However, here is a wonderful place to find all sorts of coding and design info if you're interested.

@thelittleraven: Thank you

@thelittleraven: Thank you for the link! I can feel a marathon session pouring over those coming on, I do love learning something new! I'm having a good read through the bio posts at the moment to see what the standard is- I've been chased from forums before for being too verbose, so I want to make sure I won't be irritating anyone by being 'tl;dr'-like!
quadraptor's picture

@Sylvestrix - You don't have

@Sylvestrix - You don't have to have an amazing design on a bio, sometimes just simple bios are perfect. I've been here for more than 5 years and all of my bios are simple Eye

@quadraptor: Thankyou! I

@quadraptor: Thankyou! I definitely think I'll stick with a simple one for now, it'll keep me focused =] I love that bio- her set is beautiful!
Must figure out how to get a good shot of my symbol, I've seen a few people who have avatars of theirs and I can't seem to manage it!
