"Your father found this, and thought you might like it, and I thought you might too. I'm not handy at this sort of thing, but I hope it stays... and we hope you like it."
Gently, she placed a sprig of holly and berries on her daughter's head, hoping that the small branch it attached to would wrap around one of her ears and keep it on without hurting the fawn.
Unfazed by snow or cold, it seems the fawn can't resist giving her mother just a little grief at first. Shaking her head in a fit, she lifts her tail and hooves high in a defiant display. She weaves through the red deer's legs haphazardly, before her joy can't be contained and she leaps forward to meet her mother in a nuzzle.
That the embrace is returned warmly is an understatement, but there's a rare sort of inner peace to be found in the fawn as she trots around once more. At once her normally eager legs fold beneath her and she willfully tucks herself against her mother's soft side. Her ears twitch at the new sensation. A pleased little grunt. These sort of concepts came naturally to the very young doe, who leans in to Maia's touch this time. Telling her mother, in every way she knew how, that a gentle grasp and love was all that was needed to keep something.
