Will develop as she does!

Not very good at making friends. She sees herself as an oddity, and fears no one will like her.

Very quiet. Hasn't spoken very much.

Timid, yet curious. Growing to be more extroverted.

Nautican is the result of the unfortunate matching of an aquatic creature and a run-of-the-mill deer. She bears the front half of a deer and the rear end of a fish, making her quite the awkward mermaid. Her fur is a thick double-coat that often feels oily. The oils in her fur allow it to remain waterproof and trap in warmth. Her coat is light blue on top and white on the bottom, separated by a thick dark-blue stripe that runs the length of her deer half. Her tail is covered in smooth, iridescent scales. Oddly, though, it comes to the point more similar to a whale's than a shark's. Nautican bears odd, un-fitting pink hooves that don't seem the best kept for walking on the ground.

Relationships will develop as she does.

POSTY COMING OHOHO! Hitaka

POSTY COMING OHOHO!

Hitaka woke from her rest near the Oak and peered around her, the forest was quiet, almost like a mist among fog. She lifted herself and gave a slight shake to release the dirt from her pelt. She decided she needed to stretch her legs, and started in a fast trot, slowly transitioning into a gallop and, finally, a sprint. She gained suffificient speed and leapt into the air, allowing herself to fly a good amount from the ground, but still below the cover of the trees. As the pond came closer into view, she lowered herself back to the earth and slowed from a sprint to a fast walk. The water of the pond looked so cool, she couldn't resist quenching her thirst. She lowered her head and drank as the birds of the forest sang all around her.

Siggy by Shey

The world around her was dark

The world around her was dark and murky. Bubbles of pocketed air swirled around. A splash exploded from the glassy surface of the pond. As the water tried to settle itself again, a head surfaced. An odd entry at odd timing, but it was said and done. No choice in a kind of fate like that. The doe in which the head belonged to emerged slowly, a lost look in her eyes. Quietly, she scanned the surrounding banks. What was this place? She spotted the first sign of life and paddled towards it. It was a doe.

Hitaka heard the water become

Hitaka heard the water become unsettled, and quickly lifted her head when she seen the creature swim towards her. Hitaka was surprised, but not afraid, for this being seemed friendly. She seen that it was a doe, but only half, for she had no back hooves, but a fish-like tail. Hitaka slowly walked towards her and whispered, "Hello there..."

Siggy by Shey

The doe came to more and more

The doe came to more and more shallow water, eventually forcing her walk upon the shore. Nauti found herself stumbling backwards, an odd weight pulling her that way. She spun around, half expecting a reed caught on her hind legs, but found nothing other than a fishy tail attached to her rump. She suspected nothing of it, assuming some curse on this strange land produced this monstrosity on her back side. Trying not to make herself appear a fool, she sat down by the water's edge, facing the other doe, wrapping the odd tail around her forelegs. She found not much else to do with it. "Hello."
Staff's picture

Hitaka backed up slowly from

Hitaka backed up slowly from the water to allow the doe some room to come ashore. She could sense that the doe felt awkward having to place herself properly considering the fact she has a fish's tail to deal with, but Hitaka wasn't one to judge too much on appearance. She lay in front of the doe and replied, "So how does one manage to live life as a half-being? Or does my question come forth as rude and unkempt? Forgive me, I'm not much of a socializer. But I do know what it is like to be half, for I share a bird's blood, I fly with its wings and find comfort carrying its feathers." Hitaka shuffled her wings, the light breeze flickering some of her more frizzled feathers. She listened intently, waiting for the doe to reply.

Siggy by Shey

The finned doe considered the

The finned doe considered the bird-doe's question. Was it odd to have this oddity for a tail? For legs? She played with the idea for a bit. "Do not fret," the doe said softly, pushing any offense away, "I do not take your question to heart." The doe gave a long look to her.. her fin... She had know recollection of how she'd recieved it. In fact, she'd only just awoken from some kind of slumber. "I will openly admit to you I have just come to recieve this awful thing. Perhaps I will have the answer to your question some day, but now, I've none." The doe paused in her speech to take a look at the other doe's wings. How peculiar. But as far as the doe knew, anything was possible in this strange land she'd turned up in. "I hope you find no burden in those wings of yours. They are magnificent. And so must be the feeling to touch the sky with your own skin."
Staff's picture

Hitaka shot a quick glance at

Hitaka shot a quick glance at her wings after the doe gave her a compliment. She did not expect her to say such things, but she found her words quite wonderful. It was true, Hitaka rejoiced each day she could lift herself from the ground and soar amongst the treetops. She'd never consider her half-breed blood to be a burden. "I thank you, kind doe. Your words flatter me so. But oh! my manners... where are they? My name is Kleah Hitaka, but please, call me Hitaka. Now I must ask you this same question, what do you call yourself?"

Siggy by Shey

The half-doe listened to the

The half-doe listened to the other doe quietly, thinking of the other's name. Kleah Hitaka. Hitaka. "Hitaka,"she admired. "What a lovely name. And mine...? I was known as Nauti in my youth. But I think I should have to shed this name. If I am here, in this new place, should I not start anew with a brand new name? Ahem. As to not stray from the topic, I should note that Nah or Naut suffice perfectly over 'Nauti' itself." Finished with her words, the doe looked around. "Is this pond all there is to this land?"

Tried to make her sound more classy than I'd speak. Boy, is it verbose and difficult.

Hitaka gave the doe a quaint

Hitaka gave the doe a quaint smile and lightly raised her wings to adjust a few feathers. Her wings often got frizzed, her feathers much larger and harder to keep looking nice than what few feathers she has on her haunches. She decided she ought to reply to the doe, having spaced out focusing on her silly feathers. "Naut... That is a nice, simple name. I quite like simplicity myself. And yes, it is a burden to have such a small amount of water with all this land. I myself have been wishing for a shore, a beach to run along, and beside the water, and soar over the salty waters as waves crashed against the sand. Seeing as you're half sea creature, I'm sure you'd share this dream too, not to be one who assumes." Hitaka chuckled, she felt silly, rambling about her dreams and assuming this doe shared them. She didn't like to assume, or be stereotypical.

Siggy by Shey

Naut shook her head, not

Naut shook her head, not wanting the doe to feel that way. "No," she said softly. "You've no need to feel like an assuming type. I do indeed love the open shores of the lakes I was born near. But I must admit to you I've never been able to see the sea." She mused over the idea of going to the ocean where waves crashed over the rocky shore and the terns circled above. Granules of sand would catch in one's hooves like a mud bath. How marvelous it had to be. "I know that must be odd for a fish to say, but I really do wish to go one day. And perhaps you can come with me, friend."
Staff's picture

Hitaka was shocked this

Hitaka was shocked this creature hasn't been able to feel the joy of the Sea. She had beheld the glory of it many-a-time. How she yearned to smell the salty water and fly among the powerful waves. "You've never experienced the Sea? Oh Naut, the glories it beholds. I will take you there one day, yes I will. Especially with the gift of hybrid blood, and yours being that of the Sea, you belong there, even if it means one visit." Hitaka meant that for sure. Naut needed to feel the freedom of open waters. She was gifted with the ability to swim among the powerful waves Hitaka so loved. She could ride inside them, to witness their true power. How Hitaka envied that.

Belong? It was the first time that the Fishy-doe had ever been told she belonged somewhere. The sea. The sea! The [b]SEA[b]! What a glorious ring it had in its very name! "My soul turns vile with envy of your knowledge of the Vast Sea. I crave to travel there one day. To see these curling waves. It excites me to think I'll one day get to go. Hitaka, I'd be more than happy to travel there one far--or maybe near--day with you, friend." The doe gave a small half-bow of gratitude, finding a way to bend one fore-leg, strech out the other, and curl her tail enough to allow herself to lower her front.

Hitaka gave the doe a gentle smile, and perked her ears at the word, 'friend.' She could hear the excitement in the hybrid's voice as she spoke about the Sea. Hitaka longed to travel there again, to soar through the barrels of the curling waves, almost surfing when she lowered her hooves to skim the water, and look at her rippling reflection in the water as she flew through and out the other side before the wave came crashing down on her. She shuddered at such a glorious thought. She paid her attention back to Naut, seeing the doe give her a bow, which to Hitaka, meant more than just gratitude. Hitaka unfurled her wings to their most outstretched form, and kneeled a bit before her friend, and bowed her head to her, showing her acceptance of friendship, and a promise of travel she intended to keep.

"All that aside," she said

"All that aside," she said softly, "I'd like to ask if you knew of a quiet place to graze? I do find myself growing rather hungry." Nautican didn't truly like to change the subject to a silly, unserious matter. But she put the priority first. Eating was survival for the fish doe, no matter if it was the bird-doe's or not. She thought about it for a bit. Do bird-does even eat?
Staff's picture

Hitaka stood back up and

Hitaka stood back up and folded her wings, having to adjust a few pesky feathers. "Why yes, I do actually. There's some nice greens by these blueberries that I like to eat. You can walk on land, can you?" Hitaka hated to ask that, but she felt as if she needed to. She'd never encountered a sea creature hybrid before.

Siggy by Shey

The doe felt slightly ashamed

The doe felt slightly ashamed of her own tail. Walking? "Of course I can walk," she sighed. "Have you ever seen a three legged dog walk? Odd, but works." She tried to smile, not sure if the other doe even knew what a dog was.
Staff's picture

Hitaka nodded and began to

Hitaka nodded and began to walk in stretched strides toward the succulent grass patches, and the juicy berries that Hitaka so loved. She quite liked Naut's company, the doe shared mixed blood, just as Hitaka did, and Hitaka understood this doe very well. She fluttered her wings as she walked, she had a very uptight gait when it came to using her hooves. She glanced behind her to make sure Naut was following.

The little fish-doe hobbled along, trying her best to keep up with the winged doe. Hitaka's gait seemed upward and light, whilst Naut's seemed rather clumsy and awkward. Finally there, she browsed on the leaves, grass, and berries scattered about her in the foliage. "Thank you for bringing me here."

Don't mind me, just posting something. Thought my Lily would like to meet you Nauti. c:

The chirps of birds awoke the green doe, lifting up her head. The first day she spent alone for awhile. After spending a whole winter with the kind stag that had coxed her out of her watery home; so it had been awhile since she was able to come back. Getting up, she approached the hill that just on the other side her pond would be. Well, not her pond; but it always felt like hers. With each step, she came closer and soon she looked over and onto the beautiful forest pond. Lily almost seemed to smile. "Finally, home again . . ." Yes, she was home. Tho, it has been awhile since she was here. For all she knew, others called this home. Heading down the hill, the small green doe noticed something . . . someone in the water. Was that a deer? She slowed down, unsure if she should approached or just hang back by the weeping willow.

No way! I was just about to

No way! I was just about to go ask if they could meet. Glad we were thinking the same thing.

___

The fish-tailed doe lay in the shallow water, not really wanting to swim, nor wanting to drag herself ashore and walk in that awkward way she did. Naut didn't want to be in the bustling land of the banks where fawns would dive towards the water, splash around, then play in the dirt at the water's edge. Nor did she want to watch the adults make meaningless chat under the shade of the willows. The doe was content with wading along on her belly, moving around like a gator in the shallows, getting out of the heat. It was looking up when she noticed an algae-spotted doe walking towards the pond with a look of joy on her face. Then the face went almost completely different. Hesitant. Confused, perhaps? Maybe she was just reading it wrong? Probably. "I hope I'm not taking up a favorite spot of yours?"

Oh, and how big is Nauti on the size chart?

Head was titled to the side, almost confused at what she was looking at. The green doe had already met a large blue doe with the tail of a fish; but this doe's whole lower half was nothing but a tail. Strange, different but it didn't seem to bother her at all. Hearing them speak, Lily shook her head quickly. Oh . . . oh no no. It's fine; your fine . . ." Ears twitched slightly, approaching at her normal slow hesitant pace. Not wanting to seem like a threat to the other. Hooves touched the lips of the pond, a gentle splash. "I haven't been here for a while anyway, not . . . not really 'my' spot anymore anyway." Long tail, covered in algae, swayed behind her.

The fish-doe sat up, trying not to note the lilypad-hatted doe's hesitation. "Oh come," she said, trying to smile. "I know you've never seen a mermaid doe, but don't worry--I don't bite. In fact, I can't do much harm at all." Her green eyes were warm and welcoming. "The water's nice today." She didn't want to appear too awkward... But she couldn't help it--being a fish and all.
Carry's picture

Ears twitched, looking down

Ears twitched, looking down to her hooves; as if deciding if she should take that step or not. Tho, she did look to the blue doe at the mention of mermaid deer and that she would do no harm. It was easy to believe her, after all she didn't look dangerous. Lily took a step into the water and instantly felt bliss. Yes, this was where she belonged. "Your right, the water is very nice today." Cooing a reply as she was soon leg deep; tail dancing around behind her, creating little waves.
