Shall we play together?
Bluedeer's choose your own adventure thread made me want to try this as well.
Each choice you make will adjust the content and course of the story.

o Anyone is welcome to play
o Discussion of choice with other players is welcome
o If one story ends, we can begin another

Your first choice is one of three.

You open your eyes. What are you?

o A stag.

o A doe.

o A fawn.

o ???

Ps- if you want to ask for more information to help you make a choice, you may.

You are a fawn. You are

You are a fawn. You are bursting with youthful exuberance. Your senses are keen and your small body is agile and able to operate tirelessly, but you lack knowledge and strength. Your little mind is wide open to new things, but there isn't much in there yet and the forest can be such a large place...

Where are you?

You are near a number of large, rough stones scattered around the grassy hills. You can smell the earth and the dust of the dry, yellow grass around you. It is very quiet and sunny. To your right, there is a massive boulder, flat enough that it looks like you could climb it. To your left, one rock slants over another, creating an alcove of shade.

Will you go left or right?

Your strong legs send you flying up the rock effortlessly, your hooves clattering on the stone. Little birds are startled by your sudden appearance and fly off chattering, flabbergasted by your impertinence.
You are left alone, but can see very far around in every direction. You are awed by the height of the
trees, so tall you can't see their tops. The rocks seem to make a chain and you find you can send yourself flying from one to another with a leap. It's amazing that you can span those gaps, and the landings are a bit tricky, but you're pretty good at it! Feeling pleased with your speed, your stomach sinks as feel your foot go through the surface it should have impacted, and you drop, tumbling to the ground. You're fine but a little dusty and shocked from the fall. You're starting to shake it off when you hear the sound of something fairly large approaching nearby.

You clatter up the rock again and scan the hills below, your large ears trained on what are definitely footsteps and the parting of the grasses. There! You see a large, dark creature coming your way. It doesn't seem to be in a hurry. As you stare out at it, it seems to notice you.

Your heart is beating faster

Your heart is beating faster and a shiver runs down your spine as you slide from the rock and pick your way through the grass to the creature, watching and listening carefully. It continues forward, growing larger and larger, until it fills your field of vision. Something about this creature is very familiar. Its legs look similar to your own, although much longer and thicker. Its smell is of hair, skin, dust, and grass, not so different than your own. It towers over you on its long limbs, but when it moves in to sniff your face and behind your ears, its nose is very soft and a warm. Its eyes are large and wet, hooded by long black eyelashes.

Its nose runs inquisitively along your neck and back, which tickles, causing your legs to kick out involuntarily. You hop, buck, and shake the feeling off, your hooves pounding the ground and stirring up dust. When you have settled, it bends its graceful neck to nudge your cheek with its long face. It runs its neck along yours and a smell you cannot identify fills your nose.

Then, taking its scent with it, it steps towards the slab of rock balanced at a slant against the large boulder. From a few feet away, it looks back to you.

Will you follow?

It observes you without concern, listening to the birdsong and watching little flakes of light drifting to the ground. Its face is now the same height as yours, and you trot over to look it eye-to-eye.

The sun is strong, so the cooler shade of the alcove is welcome. The silence and still makes you antsy, so you dash from one wall to another, hopping over the creature and kneeling to check the corners. There are some ants marching up the stone slab. A number of vibrant purple flowers are growing just outside the shade. They have a light, sweet smell. You also notice from the corner of your eye earth pushed away around a dip just beside the big rock.

You go to mess with:

The flower's petals are smooth and silky against your skin. The fragrance fills your nose as you eat one experimentally. It's tender, but kind of bitter, leaves an aftertaste, and the perfume smell is very strong. You stomp one flat, and then another. If you stomp with both front feet it flattens them in one go- hey presto! Your racket attracts the attention of the creature again. Its ears are back.
You stop.
Its ears come forward.
You stare at the flowers and return to plucking them with your teeth, meaning to eat quietly, but the aftertaste of the first one is still on your tongue. You hold the flowers in your mouth, at an impasse.

Will you:
o eat the flowers
o bring the flowers to the creature

It watches you closely as you drop your new find in front of it. You wait to see what the creature does.
It bends its neck to lift one. Will it eat it? Maybe creatures like this like that flavor. You wrinkle your nose at the thought. Instead, it places one behind your left ear. It picks up another and again adorns your right ear. You can barely feel them up there, but somehow, they don't fall when you tilt your head.

You lift a couple of flowers in your lips to try and mimic their gesture, but all but one wobbles out and flutters to the ground. The creature lowers its head to make your task easier, and although it is tricky and takes several tries, it waits until its head is scattered with the somewhat rumpled flowers, still lovely despite your rough treatment. Once again it pushes your cheek with the side of its face, and a kind of giggly energy wakes up inside you. You copy their movement, rubbing your face on them with vigor. You feel their breath as they lightly brush their muzzle over your head.

Your legs feel as though there is electricity racing through them and you have the strong urge to run.

You experimentally paw at its chest with one foreleg, and when it doesn't react you use your strong back legs to bring both forelegs up. It raises and turns its head to avoid your flailing, so you headbutt its shoulder and check to see if it's looking at you again. You feel a small, painless pinch on one of your ears. It nipped you!

You try to climb its back, hooves slipping from its smooth hide as you struggle to get on top of it. You are almost there, reaching for one of its ears with an open mouth, when you are sent sliding to the ground in a tangle of legs as it pushes itself to its feet.

You have its full attention as you spring up and rub your face in their warm belly, just behind their foreleg. You feel a pinch on your flank, whip around to find nothing there, then turn about and rear up at it again. A loud noise comes up out of your throat. It sounds pretty good! You make it again and again until the creature uses its large head to push your side, sending you wobbling out into the bright sunlight.

It's really very easy to make this noise, so you stand in the sun and call at it again and again, testing how loud you can be. Its ears are back and it leaves the shadow to come and stomp a hoof at you. You stomp back and make the loudest noise yet, scrunching your eyes shut to help you keep it up as long as you can. When you finish, you open your eyes, pleased with yourself and short of breath.
Something in the creature's manner has changed. Its ears are flicking about as it sharply turns its head to look around, sniffing the air intently. It walks towards you, but doesn't look at you. It stops while standing over you, still searching for something.

You trot away from the creature and confidently leap up onto the rock. From up here your view is clear, but the first thing you notice is the creature following you, keeping its front left leg up as it climbs up beside you. It still seems to be searching, so you look all around and spot movement in the distance. A tangle of branches seems to be floating over the grass. As you ponder this strange sight, you realize something big is carrying the branches over its head. It is very light in color and coming down the hill quickly.

The creature over you doesn't seem to have noticed it yet. You stomp your hooves but it is ignoring you.

You slip away and down the rocks and dance through the grass towards the new creature. Its legs and body look very similar to the first and to your own, hooves and all, but it is very faintly transparent- you can see the grass through its truly massive body. The winding branch-like bones growing from its head stretch high above your own. Its face, too, is unlike your creature's, made of the same white and curving bone. This bone looks smooth and hard, swooping in shades of off-white. Its eyes are holes. It does not change its pace upon your approach.
A high pitched sound, almost like a sneeze, echoes from behind you. You turn to see your creature staring at you, poised with one foot raised, ears flat against its head. You turn to look back at the new creature which is now nearly on top of you.

Your young legs were made for this. From standing still you spring out like a bird taking wing, effortlessly bounding across the ground behind the large dark body ahead of you. You are going too fast to risk glancing back. Not long after you start running, you pass your creature and have to slow to keep the same pace. It seems hesitant to put weight on its front leg, though it continues to move at a good clip.

Looking behind, nothing seems to be pursuing you. Looking ahead, you see faintly the silhouette of some tall, geometric structure. You continue at a trot beside your creature, feeling quite certain now this thing must be an adult of your own species. It looks quickly behind and then hastens its pace. The antlered creature is back in your sight. It seems that it will catch up to you soon.

The two of you hasten through the trees. Now that you're closer you can see the structure is very tall, draped with ivy and moss, but still strangely inorganic and out of place in the woods. Your deer is very focused on this structure as it struggles to move faster, not removing its focus for even a moment. When it steps with its left foreleg, you can see a shudder running through its muscles. Your ankle throbs where the bone scraped past it, but you are wired with energy and still moving easily.

You've come close to the broken-down walls, but you look behind to see the antlered thing has caught up to you. Once again it is lowering its head and picking up speed.
