You learn something new every day

quadraptor's picture
It's true that you learn something new every day, it may be something amazing or interesting, or something simple like realizing you like or dislike something. So for this topic, please post something new you have learned today (and feel free to post on multiple days and/or multiple times a day, there is no limit)

I'll start off Eye

For me today, I learned that it's actually kind of a bad thing to be a ronin. Ronin are samurai who have lost their lord (either by their death or losing their master's favor) and did not go through the seppuku "ritual suicide" as part of their samurai code, so they dishonor the code to remain living.

Feel free to post yours now Eye

I learned that a big, bright

I learned that a big, bright smile at bypassers gives a very satisfying feeling. Because they always smile back! And if they don't, I can just pull a silly face at their back once they passed by.

What is the meaning of life? Whatever you want it to be. (James Frey)

So very true in my opinion

I learned - not to clip

I learned
- not to clip sentences while translating in Japanese even if it's more inconvenient to have to string together clauses... If it's not done right, it's incorrect.

(namely that 'i' conjugation (nugi instead of nugu, hokori instead of hokoru) in written sentences is a way of flowing from one word to the next without ending the sentence or using another connecting particle/phrase)

- that when translating lyrics, one's inner sense of the poetry needs to be heavily tempered with the objective understanding of the original intent

Today I learned that on TEF

Today I learned that on TEF you can open the action bar while the menu is up. I was able to do a trick to get my pelt as a mini-deer because of this thanks to Pega and Ourania Eye

I've been writing "updated"

I've been writing "updated" "udpated" for years. Even though I read this word more times than I can count, in my mind the "d" came before the "p".
Today, I noticed it for the first time, it was a sudden realization, and however small, it tells so well of how much one can be blind to something right in front of them. I had to laugh a bit.

I learned a good friend has

I learned a good friend has been avoiding me for a while because they have romantic feelings for me... and that while I do not have the same feelings for them, I think things will be okay with us. It's part of a process of learning that I don't have to say yes. But there's no need to run away either.
Maybe that's how it'll be.

also. Maybe one of the reasons I don't stop myself from getting sick is that I hope my mother will take pity on me and not get angry with me. Because the absence of her anger just makes me feel I should take better care of myself.
This is actually a pretty major revelation... maybe it will help me sort out my life.

I don't strive to be the best, but instead I strive to do my best, and always give it my all every time.

Today, I remembered how

Today, I remembered how dangerous our favourite animals here can be. I was talking to a friend and he brought up one of our meetings. We were walking in the field outside of my father's house and a deer leapt out of the brush, over our heads, and kicked my friend in the head. He was alright, but he bled a bit.

Even skittish herbivores can be dangerous.

Today I realized it is

Today I realized it is impossible for a live deer to have a child with a dead deer.

It's about two of my characters.
I have a Master's degree in Wumbology.

Today I realized I do not

Today I realized I do not want to wait a month for my second deer to grow from a fawn to a stag/doe so I can put magic on it.

I also realized I have no patience.

I learned today that the best

I learned today that the best way to lose weight is to find a physical activity you really enjoy and stick with it. I've tried lifting weights, using fitness equipment, and doing exercise training videos, but eventually I lost interest and gained the weight back.

I never would have thought that throwing my shurikens outside would help me lose weight!

I've always loved throwing things for some reason (not in anger, but things like tennis balls, ect), and now that I actually have an activity that for me is really fun and neat to learn, my chest and abdomen have been toning up!

I now plan to make an obstacle course outside, having three different stations - a 'balance beam' while throwing the shurikens, a wall to hide behind while throwing my kunai at a target, and lastly, I want to get a tatami mat to slice up with my katana. Eventually I plan to get a bow and try archery (I have a few arrows already and a target to shoot at), but that will be later on.

Neat! Continuing learning

Neat! Continuing learning about exercising via throwing shurikens, I not only learned I burn up to 10 calories a minute while throwing the shurikens, but also that combined with the sweating I've been doing during the 95 degree weather, walking to get the shurikens, and so on, that I am burning around 300 calories during each session of shuriken throwing i do. (I stay outside for about 30 minutes each time)

^ That's great, Quad! I'm

^ That's great, Quad! I'm glad you can stick with an excersize and enjoy it. I wish I could, hahah.

Today I learned that I have very interactive dreams. I had a dream that everyone was dying from some kind of anthrax/scarlet fever thing, but it didn't have those symptoms. Everyone said it was the 'Rax, but they also said scarlet fever. Eventually I got it and when I went to tell someone it was already too late. I had an extremely high fever and I just collapsed on the floor. When I woke up I was burning hot to the touch, but I cooled down after a few moments.

I also learned that my subconscious associates my dragon character's nickname with horrible diseases. (Well, her name IS a horrible disease, but her nickname is 'Rax and apparently she turned into a horrible virus in my dreams)

KAY I'LL STOP RAMBLING NOW.

I learned today that Sonic's

I learned today that Sonic's Ocean Water drink is made of Sprite and their Blue Coconut flavoring. We always thought it was just made with the Blue Coconut stuff, but now that I think about it that is just syrup so there would need to be a liquid to mix it in.

Anyway, it's a pretty awesome drink if you haven't ever tried it.

I learned that in traditional

I learned that in traditional Japanese folk music, sometimes a word is tacked onto the end of a stanza to improve its rhythm and overall aesthetic.

The word is Shogaina. It has no meaning.
